  1. Like every other liberal they actually love guns so long as only their “elite” are the only ones that can get a hold of them. The only reason they’re against the plebeians having guns is because it allows the people to control the government. They love guns since they allow them to control the people.

  2. The ACLU’s policy on gun control is perfectly in line with the constitution. If you are against gun control you are against the constitution. Why do you gun nuts hate America?

  3. I don’t think Jefferson would be considered a Xian by… certianly any of the Xians posting here. He believed Jesus was a regular smart human with no special relationship to God or magic powers of any sort. He believed in a God that created the world and then left it alone.

He was a smart dude. Much smarter than this weiner. His description of what the 1st amendment means was very good.

  4. “But it is only proposed that I should recommend, not prescribe a day of fasting & prayer. That is, that I should indirectly assume to the US an authority over religious exercises which the Constitution has directly precluded them from…. I do not believe it is for the interest of religion to invite the civil magistrate to direct it’s exercises, it’s discipline, or it’s doctrines; nor of the religious societies that the general government should be invested with the power of effecting any uniformity of time or matter among them. Fasting & prayer are religious exercises. The enjoining them an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the times for these exercises, & the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and this right can never be safer than in their own hands, where the constitution has deposited it. I am aware that the practice of my predecessors may be quoted…. Be this as it may, every one must act according to the dictates of his own reason, & mine tells me that civil powers alone have been given to the President of the US and no authority to direct the religious exercises of his constituents. ” – Thomas Jefferson

  5. If one has been to DC and has walked the monuments and read the quotes from our founding fathers it doesn’t take long to understand that they all believed in God. It also helps to have a basic education in history to understand that we were founded by devoutly Christian people fleeing for religious liberty. Our constitution was based upon this precept. As a matter of fact the concept of freedom of the individual would not be known had it not been for Jesus Christ and his teachings.

Don’t tell anyone in the Obama administration I wrote this ok! I pretty sure they would find this deeply offensive and I would be prosecuted for offensive hate speech or something…

  6. John Adams:
“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”

  7. Samuel Adams
Signer of the Declaration of Independence and Father of the American Revolution

“And as it is our duty to extend our wishes to the happiness of the great family of man, I conceive that we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world that the rod of tyrants may be broken to pieces, and the oppressed made free again; that wars may cease in all the earth, and that the confusions that are and have been among nations may be overruled by promoting and speedily bringing on that holy and happy period when the kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and all people everywhere willingly bow to the sceptre of Him who is Prince of Peace.”

  8. ussjimmycarter has published blasphemous, libelous, subversive, treasonous, hate speech. He has also violated the doctrine of Church and State by referencing church related doctrine while in and upon the ground of the United States.

He is hereby sentenced to listening and memorizing the complete works of Chairman Obama and reciting said works without the aid of a telepromter. In addition he will be required to post musings of acclaim and admiration for the wholesomeness and beauty of Michelle Obama wherever possible (much like notations of “Kilroy was here”).

    There, take that!

  9. I just can’t tell if Scooter is trying to wind us up, or is that immensely dense. Especially the Cherry Picking of quotes to support his narrowed viewpoint. Taking a page directly from the leftist playbook?

One can hope that anyone that actively participates here would be so prone to naivete. Maybe he floated over from LGF?

  10. I’m deeply in study of the trials of Michelle Obama and how refreshing it is that she has “staff” and how nice it would be if we all had a Chief of Staff to serve our needs! I’m pondering this statement and wondering how exactly this would work. I’m finding it difficult to quantify, however… If there are 300 million Americans, how exactly do we find 300 million Chiefs of Staff so that we each get one? I guess I must study more at the feet of the left so that I too may “get it”…

  11. In 1774, while serving in the Virginia Assembly, Thomas Jefferson personally introduced a resolution calling for a Day of Fasting and Prayer. Also, as Governor of Virginia, Nov 11th,1779, issued a Proclamation Appointing a Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer.>>> He was not in favor of government mandating prayer, but he most assuredly was in favor of advocating that people of this nation Pray. He was no Deist, but he himself said “he belonged to a sect with just one member” He certainly believed in the Providence of God(not a Deist view). The Jefferson Bible was his collective effort to extract the life and morals of Jesus from the Gospels, and from that endevoured to live a moral life. So, not a Christian as we know it, but no card-carrying member of the ACLU.

  12. “He was not in favor of government mandating prayer, but he most assuredly was in favor of advocating that people of this nation Pray.”

He is specifically addressing there the recomendation that he not mandate, but recommend everyone pray on a certain day. And his answer is “no, dummy.”

  13. Thomas Jefferson – Notes on the State of Virginia (1781-1785)
“Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just.”

    Matthew 10:32-33
“So every one who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.”

  14. P.S.
GK Chesterton, The Everlasting Man, introduction:
“Now the best relation to our spiritual home is to be near enough to love it.
But the next best is to be far enough away not to hate it.
It is the contention of these pages that while the best judge of Christianity is a Christian, the next best judge would be something more like a Confucian.
The worst judge of all is the man now most ready with his judgments; the ill-educated Christian turning gradually into the ill-tempered agnostic, entangled in the end of a feud of which he never understood the beginning, blighted with a sort of hereditary boredom with he knows not what, and already weary of hearing what he has never heard.
He does not judge Christianity calmly as a Confucian would; he does not judge it as he would judge Confucianism.

For those in whom a mere reaction has thus become an obsession, I do seriously recommend the imaginative effort of conceiving the Twelve Apostles as Chinamen.
In other words, I recommend these critics to try to do as much justice to Christian saints as if they were Pagan sages.

It is exactly when we do at last see the Christian Church afar under those clear and level eastern skies that we see that it is really the Church of Christ.
To put it shortly, the moment we are really impartial about it, we know why people are partial to it.”
