Help Some Troops This Memorial Day
Posted by Frank J. at 03:35 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (22)

Happy Memorial Day, but, more to the point, there are some troops who could use your help. Kevin reports from an Undisclosed Middle Eastern Country™ that they had a fire at his base, causing 29 soldier and 12 Marines (maybe one of them was Buck) to lose whatever they didn't have on them at the time. He has put up a paypal donation button, so go over there and give our troops a little help.

Happy? I've neveer found going to the grave yard to visit someone cut down before the prime of life so I could listen to Al Sharpton tell me why he should be president be a happy experience.

Now that you mention, "happy" doesn't seem like the proper adjective to put before Memorial Day. I'm not sure what is, though.

It's a day of commemoration, or remembrance.

In Australia our main day of remembrance is ANZAC Day. This year I attended the Dawn Service for the first time in quite a few years, although I've never missed it, and the march on the teev. It is always a very stirring occasion.

It was wonderful to see all our vets, and those of other nations march afterwards, and I think the turnout of people commemorating was the biggest ever, young and old. Particularly poignant this year as the sole remaining Gallipoli vet passed away only a short time before...

I get a tear in my eye everytime the bugler plays "The Last Post"....

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them"

Lest we forget.

Gee, I dunno! I have thought about this issue and its hard to get clarity. I, therefore, have to say I am totally undecided and it is nagging away like worrying about an early pregnancy test.
