Links of the Day
I had been a little afraid of Buck being offensive to some military men and women when I first made him up, but I hadn't had any complaints until his most recent essay, one being in its comments section and the other to John Hawkins who had the post on his site in its entirety. Though I love humor, I don't mean to offend anyone (except for hippies and Commies), so, if you think I stepped over the line, don't be afraid to e-mail me. If you want a puppy-blending joke at Glenn Reynolds's expense, Emperor Misha I has it. Mean Mr. Mustard is leaving us (no, that doesn't mean there is one more space on the blogroll). Eric Scheie reminises about 1913. I didn't think he was that old. Greg of Begging to Differ fisks Dean. I sure hope Dean gets nominated; that'll be fun! * * * * I don't always have a lot of time each day to peruse the blogosphere, so don't be afraid to send me a link to one of your posts if you think it's especially worthy. Just don't bug me too often (try to keep e-mails to once a week) or get too upset if I don't use it. 7 Responses To "Links of the Day"
Frank, I realise that satire is one of the more difficult forms of writing and am rather fond of BucK. I would suspect that making Buck something more than one dimensional would be more than a guy with a full time job would have time for. Further I realise that there are a lot of furi'ners that need killin, if I were thirty-five years or so younger I'd reup to do some of that myself. As it is, I kinda keep an eye peeled for any Fori'ners who need killin' here in Northeast Texas. I just hope its clear that I have the highest respect for everyone in the U.S. Military and especially the Marines (of which my brother is one). I know I'm playing off the stereotype that Marines are dumb (which my brother, Joe foo', certainly is not), but the idea was always more to be laughing with Buck than at him. I was trying to make a Forrest Gump (someone who is not bright yet always on the right side of things) who likes to kill bad people. #2 - Posted by: Frank J. on July 16, 2003 09:30 PMHey Frank, instapundit has given you an indirect link. Click on "Weird results from Google". #3 - Posted by: Jag on July 17, 2003 12:09 AMFrank, all the Marines I've introduced to buck still enjoy him. #4 - Posted by: kevin on July 17, 2003 01:16 AMI am Army and, heck, I wish that I were more like Buck. He seems to have all of his moral quandaries solved and is definitely doing what he thinks is right and proper. He does not get distracted by minutia and, instead, is able to focus on his goals. He applies common sense to every situation and ignores (or shoots) the stupid stuff that he encounters. Seems to me like he is smarter than a lot of folks. #5 - Posted by: vegesigo on July 17, 2003 08:32 AMI just wish Buck wasn't such a wimp. According to his oath he is supposed to take on all enemies, foriegn AND domestic. He has repeatedly been in a room with Daschle and has failed to fulfill his oath.
