State of the Blog Report
Posted by Frank J. at 07:28 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (31)

Now that most of the main work for Front Line Voices is done, maybe I can get back to my more regular posting. Later this weekend I'll also retire some polls and try to come up with some more, which I haven't for at least a week.

So far I've taken what I thought were the best quotes from up to the end of October 2002. I'll add more to my quote rotation later this weekend. The original reason for the exercise was to find a good quote for a new t-shirt. So far, I guess the best one is "Shut up about the second amendment or I'll shoot you." The idea is to have IMAO and my tagline on the front, and then some quote and a graphic on the back. I just want to come up with something that reflects the spirit of IMAO but is funny to someone who hasn't seen the site. Problem is, I can seem to figure out what that spirit is.

I know I've asked this a number of times, but any ideas? You people is smart.

Bestest quote ever: "What's the best part about being a Republican?" "When people talk about how 'the man' is keeping them down, you know they're talking about you." A little long for a t-shirt, but funny as hell, non-PC, and marketable.

"If your arguments can stop my bulletts, you win" (not the exact quote but you know which one)
That one kills me! [*laughing hysterically*]

I would say that a number of your In My World quotes are really good for showcasing on a shirt. What I would recommend for a good T-shirt is have a small logo for the In My World or IMAO on the front (on the top right side like most) and on the back have some of In My World conversations, some of the longer quotes of any post, or even just some of the whole smaller In My Worlds, the Know Thy Enemies, or any of your other great posts that are short but priceless (what I would give to have your hating Michael Moore letter on a T-shirt for people to read).

I have to agree with Wendy, maybe it's wrong or something, but everytime that poll comes up I have to vote for that answer just great. You rock Frank! You are "the man" or maybe We are..or something...

#4 - Posted by: Bill S. on October 3, 2003 09:51 PM

Following Shockwaves' disturbing comment about most good shirts having logos on the right, I tried all mine on. Except when off, the logos are invariably on the left. I'm heading to the local biker-bar to test this theory. In the mean time, why not just have some favorite quote polls?

#5 - Posted by: Nathan C. on October 3, 2003 11:08 PM

How about a Rumsfeld Strangler Quote? Like "What is IMAO?! I'll strangle you! RARRR!"

You could even photoshop a shot of Rummy strangling someone.

Or any of the many variants of that. :-)

I like the idea of a "Rarr!" spewing Rumsfeld brandishing a rope and standing over a dead monkey. I think that's all in my head, though.

I also like the idea of twisting something from the Axis. Puppy + Blender (pictures) - and put a big red circle with a line through it.

Saving your puppies from InstaPundit.

Hey, and change my link(s)!

ash2k MUST be an IMAO fan. The Photoshop he did for this fark.com Photoshop contest (scroll down a bit on the link) could be modified to make a PERFECT T-shirt. It's kind of odd that no one's mentioned this in recent comments yet ... or maybe they have, I'm just too lazy to scroll down and check past the first couple.

Hey, someone's stealing my material!

#9 - Posted by: Frank J. on October 4, 2003 10:54 AM

To follow up on logo placement; most logos on the front of the shirt are about 2"h x 3.5"w and on the left side - called a left breast logo in printerese. Although some people put the logo on the right breast, these are on usually t-shirts with a left breast pocket.

Front artwork is usually small logo and tagline. Occassionally there is a big picture centered on the front. Make sure the back artwork is not printed too high up.

If you print on dark t-shirts, have the printer lay down the entire logo in white as this keeps the dark colored cloth from bleaching through. When they print the color separations on top of the white ink, the colors will "pop" off the dark background better. Any "good" t-shirt printer will tell you this, so if they don't, go find a new vendor, because you know more about "his" business than he does.

All that being said... I liked the idea above with a list of quotes scrolling down the back of the t-shirt with a monkey picture on the front left.

Can you make the T-shirt in colors other than just black? Periwinkle is my best color. Thanks.

#11 - Posted by: jonag on October 4, 2003 01:17 PM

Is their a list of the collected quotes that we could possibly browse?

I remember laughing quite hard at many of the random ones and quotes I've read in IMW but I can't quite rembember which were the best.

#12 - Posted by: the_brick on October 4, 2003 02:37 PM

the quote document is at http://imao.us/docs/quotes.txt

It now has all the good quotes up to the end of November 2002.

I meant it was on the right when you look at it, not when you are wearing it, my fault for not clarifying.

#16 - Posted by: Shockwave on October 4, 2003 06:58 PM

So far I think the funniest quote is:

Everytime [Saddam] walks by a window and isn't sniped, baby Jesus cries.

Made me want to start drinking something just so I could spit it up all over my computer.

#17 - Posted by: homicidalManiak on October 4, 2003 11:26 PM

"Look! I met michael moore."

I think that epitomizes IMAO better than the the 2nd ammendment stuff. Besides... nearly everyone thinks
moore resembles a pile of sh*t. Nearly everyone will find
it amusing.

I was a big fan of the:
Hollywood Promise Keeping Act: All people who said they would leave America if Bush were elected will now be deported.

#19 - Posted by: jk on October 5, 2003 11:11 AM

Hey, just make the shirts really, really big for really, really big people, and then you can put all of the best of's together on the back!

And on the left chest - "IMAO - it's not just for skinny people."

#20 - Posted by: rick on October 5, 2003 12:38 PM

For the michael moore shirt, you could take a picture of one the those novelty turds and make it look real big right over the quote.

Your blog is a refreshing change from the majority of blogs I have visited. When I first started visiting web sites I was excited by the potential of the internet as a resource and was very disappointed initially. You have restored my enthusiasm and I thank you for your efforts to share your insights and help the world become a better place.
