Links of the Day
Posted by Frank J. at 07:38 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (24)

Blogger S-Train had two people break into his residence and was forced to respond. It ends up the attack by the two demons was racially motivated (I thought we were done with dumbf**ks like those). Having blogged about the event, S-Train ended up getting so much hate mail he's now taken a break from blogging. Well, go to his blog and read all about it (I find it especially interesting his motivation to buy a shotgun). I first heard of S-Train when he joined the Alliance, and, though I haven't been a regular reader (I rely mainly on linkers to point me to other blogs; thanks to Susie for pointing me to this), I have visited S-Train's blog on occasion. He definitely gave a different viewpoint to things than most of the other blogs I read, and I hope he eventually gets back to writing. In the least, I wish him and his family this best.

On a much less serious note, Owen has some phony money to warn everyone about (shouldn't Harvey be all over this?).

There is now a Carnival of the Capitalists.

Blackfive has gone straight to the military sites to find good news about Iraq.

BTW, thanks to the eighty or so alert readers who've told me about the monkeys controlling robots with their minds. I'll be sure to get on top of that subject tomorrow morning.

Actually, the number of negative comments were relatively small. I'll quote a commentor from Black Glenn's post about the numbers:

"
Over 4 posts there were about 107 comments.
16 were from 4 skeptics. 1 skeptic posted once. 1 skeptic posted twice. Another skeptic posted 4 times, including his 5th post cause that was his apology/retraction of the previous 4, & the last skeptic was responsible for 8 posts.
4 commenters were neutral.
80+ comments were from 60 or so commenters. They were all supportive.

This is a classic example of a small number of people giving a larger number of people a bad rap." -- http://publicola.blogspot.com

I did read that his hosting company got a lot of voice mail, and I have no idea if he got personal hate mail, but if he did I hope two things happen: 1) I hope he posts it so people can respond to it, 2) I hope he doesn't stop blogging no matter what people say.

There you go - flaunting that you have 80 or greater readers. Pfft.

It appears that the S-train story is losing credibility quickly. Check the comments in this post from Spoons for a pretty good idea of what I mean.

I'm all in favor of blowing away scumbag racists that enter your home that want to kill you!!

However, this story stinks to high-heaven. I also doubt S-Train's credibility. Upon closer examination I find ZERO corroborating evidence this event ever happened.

I posted that thought over at acid man's place and was set upon like I was wearing a meat suit in a bear cage.

I gave up.

Carnival of the Capitalists has some of the best minds I've ever seen! Kind of makes me feel like the dumb kid in class, having my piece displayed next to theirs.

#5 - Posted by: Ryan on October 14, 2003 01:34 PM

What? Because it didn't show up on a GOOGLE search, you aren't going to believe it? Let's think about this: successful (and LEGAL) use of firearms to stop two gremlins in the act of commiting a crime.

Stuff like that NEVER makes it into the press. They don't want to hear about it so they don't write about it (hmmm... where have I heard that before... *cough*IRAQ*cough*). If the family had been killed in their sleep or little kids wound up in a coma due to bullets in the head, the press would be ALL OVER it. Remember that school shooting a while back that was ended when two people ran out to their cars and came back with THEIR OWN guns? No, you probably don't because of the hundreds of reports of the incident, only about two even mentioned it. The rest said that the bad guys had their weapons "wrestled away" from them or some other bullshit.

Look, I'm not saying that people don't buy into stuff on the internet too easily and get spooled up at the drop of a hat (look at the Dissident Frogman's cemetary debacle from a few months back). All I'm saying is that there IS a flip side - if people CAN'T find it on the internet they assume it to be FALSE. Just everybody relax, keep your eyes open, and wait.

Hey, Mike, your freakin' out, relax and accept you're just wrong on this one. Get out of my face, you fascist!

Mike:

"Let's think about this: successful (and LEGAL) use of firearms to stop two gremlins in the act of commiting a crime.

Stuff like that NEVER makes it into the press. "

I googled "home invasion" for the month from 15 September to 14 October and got 372 hits. So, "never" can't be right.

Did another search for the period in question and Michigan as the state, got zero hits.

S-Train is as genuine as a three-dollar bill. If I'm wrong, I'll drop to my knees and apologize.

#8 - Posted by: tictoc on October 15, 2003 04:34 AM

Yes, I am guilty of using a broad generalization. But get the Google Search right if you want to pull it out as some kind of evidence.

Try Google News and put in this: "home invasion" "gun". I got 56 hits. Of those, only 1 metioned the victim (aka innocent party) having a gun. In that one case, it seems that the victim pulled the gun on three men who claimed to police and then pulled their own guns on him, cuffed him, beat him up and ransacked his house.

One other story about police giving tips to people on how to prevent home invasions actually said this:
Many attendees questioned whether they should use a weapon if threatened, and several said they had a gun ready if an intruder entered their home.
(Officer) Lape warned residents to be cautious in using force, as they could be charged if they can't prove the intruder physically threatened them.

Now, you gonna tell tell me that the press prints stories about successful use of firearms for protection?

S-Train may or may not be telling the truth, but the fact is that the press does not feel the least bit obligated to report stories where a gun was used by a homeowner to successfully run off crooks - it's percieved as a non-story and therefore never makes the headlines.

Oh and one more thing: welcome to the spin zone.

Google hit #50

"Event to honor young gun victims
The 2 p.m. event will be dedicated to the memory of Justin Green, a 15-year-old Hunters Lane High School sophomore who was shot and killed in an apparent home invasion Aug. 5."

What they DON'T tell you:
http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentID=17741

"Nashville teen dies in shootout
Police have not confirmed a motive for the shooting but said that one and a half pounds of marijuana and 30 ounces of powdered cocaine were found in the home......
Green was playing video games in his bedroom with his 25-year-old brother, Christopher Crockett, when the men entered and demanded money. Green’s mother, another female and two children were also in the home.
Crockett exited the room with one of the suspects while the second suspect stayed in the bedroom with Green. Green grabbed a pistol from his room and both parties fired shots.....
Green fired and wounded his assailant who fired back and killed Green, police said.
"

Hmmmm.... goblins go to home of drug dealing goblin, get in gunfight, drug dealing goblin winds up dead.

But in the more recent story he's HONORED as a VICTIM of gun violence. Fuck the press and the horse they rode in on.

As my Dad used to say, "Green pushin' the green, Green got pushed, now Green pushin' the green." Dad always was poetic that way...

I think it's high time more people addressed this issue. I personally have been sorely tempted to raise this very matter in order to get some clarity. It is the sort of thing that nags away like waiting for a pregnancy test.
