Q. What Do Glenn Reynolds and Frank J. Have in Common?
Posted by Frank J. at 06:49 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (33)

A. We both are horribly abusive to children and want to control women.

I guess that needs some explanation.

Prof. Reynolds mentioned there was a article in Wired magazine about him, and I checked it out to see if they asked any hard hitting questions about his energy drink preferences. Instead, it was a list of his favorite sites. Through some typographical error, IMAO was omitted, but one that was listed was Technorati. I had completely forgotten about that site, relying on trackback pings to find out who is talking about me.

Anyhoo, I plugged imao.us into Technorati and found a blog called "A TCS Blog" that had this to say:

Attachment Parenting is excellent and quite TCS with regards to infants. And when Alice or Camille support it, they are very quick to mention the aspects of it which they disagree with. When providing links to Instapundit or IMAO, however, they rarely add qualifiers like "Just try to ignore the fact that he's horribly abusive to children and wants to control women."

To which I say, "Gwa?"

And what is TCS?

Actually, I know a little bit about it since, incidentally, Camille chastised me a long time ago about a post she thought was demeaning to children (I think this was the post).

Well, I'm not sure what Dan of A TCS Blog really means, so I do not yet cry "muckadoo", but I would like to clarify my position on women and children:

I would very much like to control women (who wouldn't?), but they are way too moody and emotional for that. Also, I think children are stupid and should be demeaned and patronized. If you think that is abuse - whatever; I don't care. I was once a child, so I know from experience they are very dumb. If it weren't for my parents patronizing me and talking down to me, I'd have probably stuck my fingers in an electrical socket while drinking sweet, sweet Drano. Actually, I think anyone younger than me is dumb and should be looked down upon intellectually. You hear that, 23 year olds? You're dumb.

If those views offend anyone who believes in TCS, well, TS.

Sometimes I don't care if anyone else finds this funny; I crack myself up.

"Children should be beaten and not heard."
I don't recall who said it first, it may have been a democrat or maybe a troll. No, now that I think of it, I believe the troll said "eaten". Nevermind.

#2 - Posted by: LibertyBob on January 27, 2004 07:15 PM

I know Dan. I can attest he's a muckadoo and that his sense of humour is lacking.

I can also explain what happened:

TCS is a parenting philosophy that states, among other things, that mainstream parenting has flaws. So if you just write about children like a normal person, TCSers will see flaws.

It's like if a super genius scientist (or someone who thought he was) read your site when you mentioned science stuff and weren't joking. He'd see some stuff he thought was wrong. No big deal.

Dan has noticed that when TCS people link to sites about parenting, they put disclaimers that say they disagree with some of the content. No surprise there.

Dan also noticed that when TCS people link to your site, they don't put a disclaimer, even though they think your views on parenting have flaws.

If you aren't Dan, that's also no surprise, because your site isn't about parenting, so linking it doesn't endorse your parenting views. If you are Dan, you write a long rant.

Hope that made sense.

I am only 18, and I agree with you, Frank, that we youngins are stupid. I'd also like to point out that women, unless they can start controlling themselves, need to be controlled. That is all.

#4 - Posted by: Morphius Kane on January 27, 2004 07:29 PM

Morphius,
Good point. This trail can take us along the way of people such as brittney and christina. They really need to be controlled.

#5 - Posted by: Rasta on January 27, 2004 07:35 PM

While I am smarter than your average youngun (as my 33 ACT score can attest to) I can say that it is a fact most younguns are stupid.

And is Drano really sweet? I heard it was more sour.

#6 - Posted by: The Vigilante on January 27, 2004 07:48 PM

What Frank and I both have in common is that we crack ourselves up.

#7 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on January 27, 2004 08:19 PM

I think it's anti-freeze that's sweet; Drano™ is primarily lye, so it probably tastes like really nasty soap - at least while you can still taste anything.

#8 - Posted by: aelfheld on January 27, 2004 10:11 PM

It was just an expression, dude.

Correction:

The quotes above are not from the TCS blog, they are from Dan's personal blog.

#13 - Posted by: Camille on January 27, 2004 11:38 PM

camille:

did you even check!? sheesh. dan posted it on tcsblog too. IMAO linked to the source...

#14 - Posted by: Elliot Temple on January 28, 2004 01:45 AM

The fact that anything I wrote was quoted on IMAO, and, in fact, I was even mentioned by name, is fucking astounding. And a great honor, even though I doubt you mean it that way.

About the "abusive" remark... don't take it too badly, Frank, as Elliot pointed out, I think most people are abusive to children.

And for what it's worth, the post you're quoting almost certainly makes no goddamn sense at all to anyone who doesn't regularly read TCS blogs. I know this. I didn't really expect anyone else to read it. That you did is a little bit of a mindfuck, to tell you the truth.

Anyway, I just felt like putting in a word or seventy in my defense, as Elliot has some pretty strong personal problems with me that aren't much related to anything I said. It's a long story, except when I make it a short (and false) story and write it off as due to his unrequited homosexual urges.

#15 - Posted by: Dan on January 28, 2004 04:11 AM

Clarification: Elliot's personal problems with me are related to things I said. Just nothing I said in the post in question. They go back much further.

Also, to be perfectly clear: I like you, Frank. I think you're funny as hell, not to mention right, with regards to lots of things.

#16 - Posted by: Dan on January 28, 2004 04:17 AM

I'd always assumed that the tendency for Americans of all ages and socio-economic groups to stick their fingers in electrical sockets was the rationale behind the country's decision to go for an effeminate 110 volts, rather than the manly 240 volts in use here in the U.K., where we have to literally sprint past power outlets to avoid being felled by a lightning-bolt of Jovian proportions.

You're not doing your young people any favours by mollycoddling them, you know - a touch of "Old Sparky" was an uncomfortable but worthwhile part of my upbringing, and in fact my much-loved late father used to cram my tiny digits into the sockets with his own rubber-gloved hands and pin them in place with steel skewers - I firmly believe it did me no harm apart from perhaps contributing to my slight stammer and a tendency to shout obscenities in the freezer sections of supermarkets.

Word of advice: Never try to control your girlfriend/spouse/etc. We do not need to control ourselves when we can control the male species(and it is quite easy) .

Don't mess with us, we will play games with you until you are wishing you had some drano to drink.

I really do feel bad for the men out there (tear), I know I would hate to be treated the way we treat you.....but if you ever had the taste of this type of power...you would take advantage of it as well....SUCKA!

#18 - Posted by: Sue on January 28, 2004 08:55 AM

David: nice try, but the voltage doesn't kill, the current does.

#19 - Posted by: Ian S. on January 28, 2004 09:04 AM

You crack me up, too! But so did David Ord...are commentors allowed to be funnier than you, Frank?

#20 - Posted by: Susie on January 28, 2004 10:40 AM

MMmmmmmm Sweet, sweet Drano....AAauuurrrggghhh

#21 - Posted by: n on January 28, 2004 11:36 AM

Let's not bring Frank into this, Susie. I already got my butt kicked in here today.

#22 - Posted by: David Ord on January 28, 2004 11:45 AM

Davie, so that's why you use those big-assed plugs. Zeus grounders, eh?

As far as kids are concerned, remember:

"Humans are the only animals that have children on purpose with the exception of guppies, who like to eat theirs."
-P. J. O'Rourke

#23 - Posted by: MonkeyPants on January 28, 2004 11:50 AM

Yes, you're funny. I'm 31. You hear that 24 and 25 year-olds? Children. You're dumb.

So there.

hln

#24 - Posted by: hln on January 28, 2004 01:34 PM

What is this world coming to, when speaking the wrong way to your child is considered "abuse"? People who think that's real abuse should get out more-- into the rest of the real world outside of their little American enclave. Kids are sometimes tortured and raped. Merely being yelled at or spanked by a parent who loves you and is trying to keep you from running out into the busy street is NOT abuse. Only someone high enough up in some ivory tower could think they don't have better things to do than to criticize others for their non-abusive parenting choices.

Kids may be pretty stupid (I was, when I was a kid), but they do know one thing-- they know when they are loved, no matter how badly it is expressed.

#25 - Posted by: Wacky Hermit on January 28, 2004 02:35 PM

I'm only 16. How dumb can I be if I am smart enough to read IMAO and buy Frank's Shirts?

#26 - Posted by: Shockwave on January 28, 2004 04:26 PM

Truly the best humor in the world is when you crack yourself up. I enjoy this on a regular basis, much to the chagrin of those around me.

Oh and David, the reason for 120v instead of 240v is that the 240v "throws" you off the socket too quickly. At 120v, you get to enjoy a good half-second of the heebie-jeebies before you can yank your fingers free. It makes it more entertaining overall.
