A Glaring Omission
Posted by Frank J. at 08:50 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (43)

Derbyshire has an article about how 1979 is perhaps one of the most pivotal year in modern history, but completely neglects to mention the most significant event of that year: me being born.

I expect more from him...

Wow. Frank sure got old. It's good to see that the elderly can still kick it with us young 'uns. So in America, doesn't being that old mean you get free stuff at McDonalds?

#1 - Posted by: Pete the Australian on May 27, 2004 08:56 AM

Only in America!

#2 - Posted by: Dave The Australian on May 27, 2004 09:01 AM

Thanks. You're the same age as my youngest daughter. With my luck, she's probably older than you.

Thanks again for making me feel like a fossil.

He mentions you here..."In 25 years a new cohort of humanity is born, grows to maturity, and begins to accomplish things in the world."

Now you just have to start to accomplish something...hehehe...just kidding. I didn't even grow up for another five years.

#4 - Posted by: roux on May 27, 2004 09:15 AM

You're YOUNGER than my daughter????

That's. Just. Wrong.

#5 - Posted by: Timmer on May 27, 2004 09:56 AM

i was born in 1979 too! I see he hasn't recognized us, how upsetting!

#6 - Posted by: meghann on May 27, 2004 10:08 AM

That's also the year I graduated from high school in central PA, where I lived 10 miles away from....

Three-Mile-Island, which had a famous accident in 1979 that doomed nuclear power in America. That's pretty significant.

#7 - Posted by: BigAl on May 27, 2004 10:19 AM

photos this weekend, The Maximum Leader! well, that's when i'll take them, Frank will get them and need to choose.

buy the tshirts anyway! then when you see the photos you can buy them again.

Frank, i'm only 3 years older than you, at least we were born in the same decade. where's his article on 1976? that was stinking important.

#8 - Posted by: sarahk on May 27, 2004 10:31 AM

Ack! 1979??

Arrrgggghhhhhhhhhh. I don't use GREYwolf for nothing. 1954 was a pretty special year if you're asking.....

#11 - Posted by: Greywolf on May 27, 2004 11:17 AM

So was 1970.

#12 - Posted by: SpaceMonkey on May 27, 2004 11:37 AM

#13 - Posted by: Lord Whorfin on May 27, 2004 11:42 AM

yeah, but were any of you born on the 10th anniversary of Kennedy's assassination?

#14 - Posted by: Conservative_D on May 27, 2004 11:53 AM

Friggin punk...My birthday is in 1979, man I feel neglected.

#15 - Posted by: The Sicilian on May 27, 2004 11:59 AM

1979 here also. What month & day? Mine's July 25.

#16 - Posted by: Robin Munn on May 27, 2004 12:07 PM

I would try and claim 1974 was pretty good year, but it was also the year Nixon resigned.

#17 - Posted by: jason of avoca on May 27, 2004 12:17 PM

I guess there is hope for the younger generation. Frank, you may marry my ugly grandaughter.

#18 - Posted by: James Old Guy on May 27, 2004 12:50 PM

Yeah, ya know what they say.....age and treachery.....

#19 - Posted by: Greywolf on May 27, 2004 12:54 PM

Geez Frank, nothing like making me feel like an old geezer (1956)! All I can say is hey you punks, get the hell off my grass! Damn kids! Dang, where did all those years go? Let this be a lesson to you youngsters out there about the evils of sex, drugs, alcohol and rock 'n roll. Crap, somebody get me a beer!

#20 - Posted by: Connecticut Yankee on May 27, 2004 02:09 PM

1979 is also the year that I turned 8, which is significant because... umm... I think I might have gotten a set of cowboy cap guns that year, fueling my life long love affair with firearms, and my hope to someday shoot a terrorist.

#21 - Posted by: Spoons on May 27, 2004 02:19 PM

1979, again. Btw, my birth is obviously superior to yours, Frank. So there. (What month were you born in?)

#22 - Posted by: Dave on May 27, 2004 02:25 PM

For those who want to know, I turn a quarter century a week from tomorrow.

#23 - Posted by: Frank J. on May 27, 2004 03:02 PM

Bah, you're all geezers. 1985!

#24 - Posted by: Alex Sloat on May 27, 2004 03:04 PM

And I turn a half century in nine days.

wimper.......

#25 - Posted by: Greywolf on May 27, 2004 03:14 PM

#26 - Posted by: Entrepreneur on May 27, 2004 03:36 PM

In that case, Frank, I shall salute your quarter-century with the following poem:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I laugh like mad,
'Cause I'm younger than you!

#27 - Posted by: Robin Munn on May 27, 2004 03:52 PM

Happy Birthday in advance, Frank; I probably won't be posting that weekend (I just closed today and I'll be moving then).
James Old Guy, why only offer him the ugly one?

#28 - Posted by: Nony Mouse on May 27, 2004 04:29 PM

Happy early B-Day, Frank. But you don't have to return the greetings, since I was born in 1965 and really don't want to remember mine anymore (I can see you counting up the years there)...All of you are BABIES...but somebody is rearing you right, all of you sweet, conservative, Bush-loving, right-winging cuties!!!! Go and kiss your Mamas right now and tell her thank you...the future looks bright!

#29 - Posted by: DixieDarlin' on May 27, 2004 06:20 PM

This is such a relief (to all you old farts: how do you spell relief?). I was beginning to think I was the oldest person around here!!

#30 - Posted by: jonag on May 27, 2004 06:36 PM

I know! I know! R-O-L-A-I-D-S

#31 - Posted by: DixieDarlin' on May 27, 2004 07:49 PM

Heehee. Good job DixieDarlin'!! 1965 was a very good year indeed!!

#32 - Posted by: jonag on May 27, 2004 08:23 PM

Not nearly Jonag. Apparently I have 20 years on Frank.

And I would have guessed far fewer years for you, based on your tshirt babe entry. On the other hand, I would have guessed a little higher because of your graciousness.

Dudes, that one was free. For those of you with children:

I think my kids got their good looks from me. Their mom still has hers.

I can't believe I'm just giving this stuff away.

#33 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on May 28, 2004 01:05 AM

1985 here... All you Old People cant hog the Right-Wing to yourself. The Anti-Left Young Voters are here to help in 2004!

#34 - Posted by: Kyle on May 28, 2004 01:51 AM

And we are grateful you are here Kyle!! Our arms are getting tired from holding the torch!

Thanks Dave, you are too kind (and funny too)!

#35 - Posted by: jonag on May 28, 2004 11:39 AM

Yeah, I was right. She's January 24.

I can feel my arteries petrifying. And I was born on the fourteenth anniversary of the start of WWII. No, not when they invaded Poland, when Britain and France declared war.

In particular, the month of June in 1979 is the most important of all - to be even more specific, the 11th of june - to be insanely specific - 6:35am, on the 11th of June in the year of 1979 is the most important minute in history. :)

#37 - Posted by: Ezra Starr on May 28, 2004 03:58 PM

Thanks Greywolf and Dave in Texas for making me feel better. 1979! I was wearing very bad fashion and enjoying really good music in 1979. I like that I was born in 68'. It was a cool year. Protests, drugs, music, drugs, and more music. Good times. And drugs. Which explains why I find this website so funny. Cat sleds! bahhhhh.

#38 - Posted by: Alice on May 29, 2004 10:15 AM

And Elizabeth, of course!

#39 - Posted by: Alice on May 29, 2004 10:16 AM

Just when I was starting to feel old (just moved in to my own house- so I'm only renting, but it's still mine! finished a year of college, etc.) Frank and the Ronins make me feel all better...
1985 was a good year indeed :-)

#40 - Posted by: BerkeleyGirl on May 29, 2004 02:05 PM

I have PANTS older than you.

#41 - Posted by: N.O'Brain on May 30, 2004 12:07 PM

Yikes! I graduated high school in 1979!

Congrats on your closing NonyMouse! Have fun moving.

Back ontopic, just counted it up the other day: I've MOVED 25 times in my life!

And another bad anniversary, the Madrid train bombings happend on my birthday this year. :-(
