Ronin Thought of the Day
This come from Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai: Our bodies are given life from the midst if nothingess. Existing where there is nothing is the meaning of the phrase, "Form is emptiness." That all things are provided for by nothingness is the meaning of the phrase, "Emptiness is form." One should not think that these are two separate things. Reflect upon it.

Okay. I've reflected. Now my head hurts and I want to hunt down and hurt some dreaded Ninja Monkeys. Ohhh.... First! Imperial Wassailier: Red #1 - Posted by: L. C. Red Ruffansore on June 13, 2004 11:06 AMEh... this sounds too nuanced to me. Are you sure the samurai guys who came up with this stuff weren't democrats? Or maybe French samurai. #2 - Posted by: Flakbait on June 13, 2004 01:06 PMA glass may seem useful... but unless it's empty, you can't put anything in it. It's the emptiness that gives true purpose the glass. The two cannot be separated without both becoming useless. #3 - Posted by: Francesco Poli on June 13, 2004 02:40 PMi tried to reflect but i couldn't get the words written to have cognitive meaning. they look like real neat sentences though!
"When hungry, eat your rice; when tired, close your eyes. Fools may laugh at me, but wise men will know what I mean." - Lin-Chi
Two more, in addition... "The Way is not difficult. Only there must be no wanting or not wanting." - Chao Chou. "How shall I grasp it? Do not grasp it. That which remains when there is no more grasping is the Self." - Panchadasi #6 - Posted by: Orion on June 13, 2004 06:09 PMMan, that's way too deep for Tim. I need a Coke. #7 - Posted by: Tim E on June 13, 2004 08:12 PMUh...yeah. Right. You going French on us here Frank? Talk English, not esoterical BS. #8 - Posted by: Alsadius on June 13, 2004 10:26 PMSee, the difference is the French TRY to be mystical and esoteric - But, being French, they simply come off as arrogent and clueless. Ronin are Warriors - they can philosophize as well as fight. Even Yogi Berra could philosophize. Orion #9 - Posted by: Orion on June 13, 2004 10:42 PM"When I began studying zen, mountains were mountains. When I thought I understood zen, mountans were something else. When I finally understood zen, mountains were mountains again" What? Sorry, I was distracted by the sound of one hand clapping... #11 - Posted by: Parker on June 14, 2004 10:56 AM"I am only a man." - Kwai Chang Kane #12 - Posted by: Grasshopper on June 14, 2004 11:27 AMLather. Rinse. Repeat. Post a comment
