Ronin Thought of the Day
Posted by Frank J. at 10:59 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (13)

This come from Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai:

Our bodies are given life from the midst if nothingess. Existing where there is nothing is the meaning of the phrase, "Form is emptiness." That all things are provided for by nothingness is the meaning of the phrase, "Emptiness is form." One should not think that these are two separate things.

Reflect upon it.

Okay.

I've reflected.

Now my head hurts and I want to hunt down and hurt some dreaded Ninja Monkeys.

Ohhh....

First!

Eh... this sounds too nuanced to me. Are you sure the samurai guys who came up with this stuff weren't democrats? Or maybe French samurai.

A glass may seem useful... but unless it's empty, you can't put anything in it. It's the emptiness that gives true purpose the glass. The two cannot be separated without both becoming useless.

i tried to reflect but i couldn't get the words written to have cognitive meaning. they look like real neat sentences though!

Two more, in addition...

"How shall I grasp it? Do not grasp it. That which remains when there is no more grasping is the Self." - Panchadasi

Man, that's way too deep for Tim.

I need a Coke.

Uh...yeah. Right. You going French on us here Frank? Talk English, not esoterical BS.

#8 - Posted by: Alsadius on June 13, 2004 10:26 PM

See, the difference is the French TRY to be mystical and esoteric - But, being French, they simply come off as arrogent and clueless.

Ronin are Warriors - they can philosophize as well as fight.

Even Yogi Berra could philosophize.
