Face to Face with Chomps
Posted by Frank J. at 05:43 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (28)

Doug of ThoseShirts.com sent me this image:

So far that's the image that best resembles what I want for the Chomps t-shirt. Only, it would need to look angrier (it's an angry dog, all right, but Chomps is the world's angriest dog).

Someone already offered to take a shot at drawing Chomps, and I was wondering if anyone else would want to try. I'll show what I get sent, and, if one is so good it gets used for the t-shirt, you get fame, immortality, and a free t-shirt of course.

If I can get the right image, this t-shirt could be so cool...

I pooped my self, and that dog scares the crap out of me, I would hate to see chomps.

I edited the picture to make it look angrier, let me know what you think:

Don't worry sir, that dog won't hurt you.

Won't hurt me? Hell, even if it won't, it would make me hurt myself! Holy Crap!!

#3 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on June 22, 2004 06:02 PM

i'd model that Chomps for sure.

#4 - Posted by: sarahk on June 22, 2004 06:19 PM

I thought Chomps is a Rot - am I mistaken ?

#5 - Posted by: brian on June 22, 2004 07:07 PM

If I could draw I'd make his head a little beefier.. hmmmm..is beefier a word?

#6 - Posted by: CCinCali on June 22, 2004 07:16 PM

That's a good one! And it doesn't infringe on Emporer Misha. Maybe make the spikes on his collar more pointy.

#7 - Posted by: jonag on June 22, 2004 07:29 PM

It looks like a Doberman Pinscher with uncropped ears rather than a Rottie.

#8 - Posted by: A Recovering Liberal on June 22, 2004 07:46 PM

I would like him a little beefier too... which I'm pretty sure is a word.

#9 - Posted by: Frank J. on June 22, 2004 07:47 PM

Evil Midnight, I LIKE the red eyes. That's a touch we definately need.

#10 - Posted by: Greywolf on June 22, 2004 08:01 PM

I thought Chops was a boxer

#11 - Posted by: Red donga on June 22, 2004 08:16 PM

Nah, that picture is nowhere scary enough. Evil Midnight's is an improvement, but Chomps needs to have an expression of supreme anger.

#12 - Posted by: Turkeyhead on June 22, 2004 08:43 PM

I could send you a picture of my ex-wife. She's an angry b*$#@. Would that do? :)

#13 - Posted by: JusTalkin on June 22, 2004 09:41 PM

I dunno - I always saw Chomps as rather cute with angry moodswings. He was this docile Rottweiller who went nuts when he got angry, but I never really saw him as this dog. Oh well.

#14 - Posted by: Jonathan on June 22, 2004 11:08 PM

Looks like a Doberman, and Chomps is supposed to be a Rottie.

Chomps would be mad at this mistake.

#15 - Posted by: Kyle on June 23, 2004 12:53 AM

If you want to make him look angrier couldn't you make him look muslim or something, aren't they always angry about something? Well, them and the NAACP.

I drew this with a PowerPuff Girls pencil. Yay!

#17 - Posted by: Brian Tiemann on June 23, 2004 04:42 AM

Why do dogs lick themselves? They can't make a fist

#18 - Posted by: red donga on June 23, 2004 05:57 AM

Maybe this could be "happy Chomps".

#19 - Posted by: Jennifer on June 23, 2004 09:27 AM

Evil Poster..

I love the glowing red eyes.. But the V over Chomps brow makes him look a bit like; "Bert, the worlds angriest Muppet"

No Disrespect intended.. I like Bert - he always reminded me of my Granpa Dale - WWII Frogman (yep, that was the word he used, never knew what it meant. But that's what he said he was.)

I thought CHOMPS was a Pomeranian? Besides, he needs drool,,lots of drool, a littel meat in the teeth wouldn't hurt either.

#22 - Posted by: James Old Guy on June 23, 2004 11:57 AM

Brian I think you did a great job!! Best I've seen yet..

#23 - Posted by: CCinCali on June 23, 2004 01:43 PM

In WWII, Navy Frogmen were the guys that hit the beaches before we launched the attack. Their job was to clear obstructions and mines before the troops landed.

It didn't get any more dangerous. They were dropped offshore from subs or small boats and had to sneak in (swimming, just under water) and set explosives on that stuff to keep it from damaging landing craft or slowing down the assault.

They evolved into the Underwater Demolition Teams (just called "the Teams"), and eventually the best of the best became modern day SEALs.

I'll bet Granpa Dale was one tough SOB.

#24 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on June 23, 2004 03:20 PM

Dave in Texas,

Granpa Dale was the most tough and irascible S.O.B. ever to walk the planet, and my Brother and I loved him for it (that man had a certain strength of will that was to be admired, that was all we knew.) He never wanted to talk about what he did, and I didn't think it polite to press.

He died earlier this year and I miss him dearly. I never knew what it was that the frogmen did before..

Thank You.

#25 - Posted by: LokiDoki on June 23, 2004 06:09 PM

LokiDoki,

Sorry for your loss. It's sad that these fine men and women are passing from our lives.

My dad was in the Teams during Korea. He doesn't talk about it either. I know he was wounded at a place called Hungnam, where they loaded the 1st Marines who had fought their way out of Chosin. A few years ago I asked dad what it was like, and all he would say was "it was pretty cold".

It was December of 1950. He was 19.

I would do It Frank, but I lack the tools to transfer sketches to computer (kinko's use PC, and I got kicked-out of art school for thinking too much).
That's about how I pictured him though.
The red tint creates an aura of scariness. Do the final in a similar color scheme

#27 - Posted by: Rob on June 24, 2004 02:16 AM

If someone wanted to dress up like Chomps, you could start with this:

http://www.furbid.ws/cgi-bin/auction.pl?fursuit&1089031014

You would need to add fangs and red eyes, but it's a start.

I'm not sure which is scarier: Chomps or that someone would make a Rottie costume.
