Hollywood Comes to the Blogosphere
On my blogads, you may notice my first movie ad ever, The Manchurian Candidate. I never saw the original (it's on my Netflix list), but this one has Denzel Washington, so hopefully it will be good. Check out the trailer. Also, I have a new advertiser with lots of pro-Bush merchandise and anti-Moore and anti-Kerry stuff. Check them out as well or you are a dishonorable ronin. Finally, there probably isn't going to be another reprint of the Know Thy Enemy: Terrorists t-shirt, so buy the last of them before they're all gone. Previously sold out sizes on the others are orderable again. BTW, I now have a full color version of Chomps and... well... it kicks pinkie toe but you guys will have to wait to see it. 36 Responses To "Hollywood Comes to the Blogosphere"
Hey Frank, I posted a link to this site earlier but I don't know if you saw it. It's scaryjohnkerry.com A major tool against the liberal "Bush lied - people died" line. Definitely worth a look-see. #1 - Posted by: Trucido on July 21, 2004 02:34 PMSecond! It's twice as good as first! #2 - Posted by: beo on July 21, 2004 02:46 PMYou're slipping, beo. #3 - Posted by: Trucido on July 21, 2004 02:54 PMI really liked the first Manchurian Candidate so I hope the one with Denzel Washington doesn't disappoint (although I can't imagine being disappointed by anything with Denzel Washington in it!). #4 - Posted by: jonag on July 21, 2004 03:10 PMFrank, I assume that since you have an ad for it on your website, you're going to watch the Manchurian Candidate and give us all a review, right? #5 - Posted by: Trucido on July 21, 2004 03:14 PMI'm not going to waste my time on the new one. The first movie, which incidentally had Angela Lansbury in her scariest role ever (seriously - she will creep you out when you see it), was about a Communist plot to assassinate a presidential candidate. I will bet you five bucks that the new one will be about evil right wingers, probably readily identifiable charicatures of present Republican politicians, plotting to impose a dictatorship on the US. Five bucks. #6 - Posted by: Steve Skubinna on July 21, 2004 03:19 PMDarfurGenocide.org Over a million people, driven from their homes, now face death from starvation and disease as the Government and militias deliberately try to prevent humanitarian aid from reaching them. The same forces continue to murder, rape and terrorise; and destroy the people of Darfur's villages and crops, and poison water their supplies. This site's sole purpose is to try to save lives by helping stop the genocide in Darfur. It empowers you to take smart, strategic actions to compel those in power to act. It also provides access to the best, most relevant and most upto date information available. The situation in Darfur is dire. The choice we face simple. Act now to help save lives and stop the genocide, or watch as another chapter of injustice, cruelty and tragedy gets added to human history for us to read about and regret. Regretting won't stop the terror. It won't bring back the dead, nor comfort those left behind.
My KTE: Terrorists T-shirt arrived yesterday. Yee-haw! Can't wait to tick off some of my flaming liberal friends ;^) #9 - Posted by: A Recovering Liberal on July 21, 2004 03:33 PMWait, I heard the movie starred Alec Baldwin and he was playing a detective who was searching - oh, wait, MANCHURIAN Candidate - okay, I thought you said the title was WHO THE HELL IS THIS FAT GUY IN THE MIRROR AND WHAT THE HELL HAS HE DONE WITH MY CAREER. Comment spamming is teh lame, "Concerned." #11 - Posted by: Alex on July 21, 2004 04:51 PMrightwingduck....that was bad. But in a good way! Steve..I heard Meryl Streep based her character on Hillary. But I'm with you, every one of the bad guys will be a (gasp) conservative! krautstink..who the hell is Alec Baldwin? #12 - Posted by: Wolf's Dawn on July 21, 2004 04:56 PMOf course the bad guy will be conservative. Do you think Hollywood would ever portray a communist in a bad light? Darnit I hate that! Is there any oil in Manchuria? We could take that over too! Sorry. Hey, I just got my copy of Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man. Goooood reading. #13 - Posted by: rightwingduck on July 21, 2004 05:32 PMMy FIRST post on this great site! About The Manchurian Candidate, the original was one of my absolute, all-time faves, but the brains behind the plot were the fabulous Angela Landsbury and the EEEVIL ChiComs. Now I understand that the commies are replaced by an EEEVIL Corporation. Of course! Halliburton/Bechtel/Carlyle in disguise! Since the new one is updated from Korea to the Gulf War, why not replace ChiComs with Islamoterroists? Because we obviously have more to fear from Big Business than from those peace-lovin' religionists! Cheeez! I'm only going to go watch it if IMAO reviewers give it the thumbs up. Denzel aside, I'm guessing NOT. #14 - Posted by: New Victorian on July 21, 2004 05:43 PMHey, be fair. Even Hollywood knows that terrorists are too stupid to pull off something like that. #15 - Posted by: Alsadius on July 21, 2004 07:14 PMThe whole "mind control chip" theory always made me laugh my ass off, because the people who argue that theory are usually the same people who hang out around the new age section of the local book store, reading bullshit about Atlantis, Alien Reptiles controlling the government, etc. What's next, a movie about EEEEVVIIIILLLLL bottled water corporations putting flouride in their products in an evil conspiracy with the government to control the population by giving everyone cancer? Go check out www.davidicke.com for more lunacy relating to this. #16 - Posted by: Mob_Triggerman on July 21, 2004 07:51 PMAn evil corporation did it? Wow. How does Hollywood keep coming up with such original ideas? I'm not so sure about watching Alec Baldwin, though. Once you've seen him as Mr. Conductor, you'll never be able to think of him in any other role. #18 - Posted by: Jax on July 21, 2004 08:48 PMMob_Triggerman Do you mean to say that our Atlantian Illuminati alien reptile overlords aren't trying to control us using Frank's space laser? /Adjusts tinfoil hat #19 - Posted by: Lou on July 21, 2004 08:51 PMpinky toe, huh, frank? :) you sweetheart. RWD, that was stinkin' funny (bad, yes, but funny). Folks, when you see the movie, be sure to get your tickets through Fandango. Arthur Levitt is the CEO, so all the profits will be funneled right into the DNC. Poetic, isn't it? Frank J. slams Kerry, yet at the same time he's unwittingly helping him. #21 - Posted by: Liberal Larry on July 21, 2004 09:47 PM Die Liberal Larry! You are a terrorist, and a conspiracy therist to boot. live Liberal Larry! Liberal Larry funny funny man. see blamebush.typepad.com. #23 - Posted by: sarahk on July 22, 2004 01:43 AMOriginal movie premise was quite good (and controversial) at the time. Coming out of McCarthy's era (when he was - and suppose still is - considered a 'witch-hunter') they made the Republicans look like buffoons. I've heard that it's supposed to make them look the same (or worse) this time around. It'll be hard for Ms. Streep to capture Angela Lansbury's perfomance of the original (even though she denies taking her cue from the Hildabeast). Ol' Blue Eyes was crap in the original. And what were they trying to do with that 'love interest' angle? Studio had no work for Vivian Leigh that week? Completely out of place. I have no intention of seeing this remake as it is just that...a remake. VERY few ever live up to the original. #24 - Posted by: El Jefe on July 22, 2004 07:52 AMI recommend the original. a bunch of folks said it was pulled after JFK was assasinated, but supposedly someone involved in the movie (Axelrod?) disliked it cuz it made the commies look too evil!! in view of Hollywood's political bent I suspect Ebert and Whoever will love it and I won't. nice irony that FrankJ will make $ on it!! 8-) #25 - Posted by: sailor sam on July 22, 2004 10:14 AMThe first film was a masterpiece of Cold War paranoia. You can't remake such a movie with out the Cold War and by attempting to transfer that paranoia to BIG BUSINESS.....Denzel or no its going to suck. #26 - Posted by: Iris on July 22, 2004 12:54 PMI used to love the original, because it made us think that the Commies were the evil enemy. That was good. But now, in retrospect, not so much. Sure, the evil Commies part was great. But the problem was that the "real" message of the movie was that Republicans in the U.S., and pretty much anyone who speaks out about Commies, is the "real" enemy. The implication was that McCarthy, and people like him, were just acting the part of the patriotic anti-Communist in an attempt to get real ChiComs infiltrated into the White House. Republicans. Bringing in the Commies. Riiiiiight. Meanwhile, then as now, democRats were supporting Castro and Guevara, sending emissaries to Chad, selling out our secrets to the Chinese, and fawning to the Soviets every step. Who brought down Soviet Communism? R E A G A N . Now I see ads for the new movie, and the enemy is "big corporations." Excuse me, "Kor pah RAY shuns." The remake probably came out of the Nader camp... attack "big Oil" and at the same time have the evil chick look like Hillary Clinton: mostly be a film about eeeeeevil Republicans but at the same time get in some digs on slightly less eeeeevil democrats. Totally Green Party propaganda. I am surprised Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins aren't the charming husband-wife team that saves the day. Ugh. Save your money. Better yet, give your $7, or whatever a movie ticket costs where you live, to the Bush-Cheney campaign. #27 - Posted by: dvgulliver on July 22, 2004 02:38 PMFigures. Hollywood hasn't made any anti-commie films since Seven Years in Tibet, and that wasn't even a good one. It doesn't even matter to me, seeing as I don't like going to the movies to begin with. I'll wait till it comes out on DVD, or TV, or whatever. Oh, and I'm still waiting for Ed Asner to host the "Stalin Awards" like Michael Savage joked about a few weeks ago. #28 - Posted by: Mob_Triggerman on July 22, 2004 06:25 PMI saw this link on Allah with the line, "I'm glad I didn't accept this ad"
I may be repeating someone (to lazy to read all the comments) but see the original. I hadn't seen it until about a year ago. I caught it on AMC. An incredible movie. And, God may strike me for this one, Angela Landsbury was great! #30 - Posted by: J.R. on July 22, 2004 10:46 PMFrank J., You might want to take a look at this story on Drudge: http://www.drudgereport.com/flash7.htm #31 - Posted by: twalsh on July 23, 2004 12:18 AMMore leftist claptrap from Hollwood disguised as "art". zzzzzzzzz #32 - Posted by: Yank Girl on July 23, 2004 06:39 PMrightwingduck said "Is there any oil in Darfur?" LMPTO Man that was such perfect timing. 2 minutes later and it wouldn't have been nearly as funny. #33 - Posted by: krakatoa on July 24, 2004 01:47 AM speaking of Hollywood PCing the classics...the Yahoo upcoming movies site announced that the Fantastic Four remake is due out next summer; they are changing the villainous Euro scientist Dr. Doom to an industrialist from upstate NY, played by Tim Robbins! 8-( What I really, really want to know, is how is this new version the *Manchurian* candidate. Where are the Manchurians during this? Is it the Manchurian Corporation? Either way it sounds like it is going to be a grade A Hollywood commie pic. #35 - Posted by: Andrew on July 26, 2004 05:34 AMPost a comment
