Ronin Thought of the Day
Sensei Winston Churchill was to have said: Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events.

In college, leftists major in the illusory method. #2 - Posted by: Rob on August 13, 2004 02:57 PMUnless of course you fight a "sensitive" war, then you can plan blind dates and slumber parties with your enemies!! #3 - Posted by: Martigan on August 13, 2004 02:59 PMDoes this apply if we go to war because we have to instead of all the times we wanted to? Hey Franklin! What do you want to do this Sunday? #4 - Posted by: FormerHostage on August 13, 2004 03:26 PM Can we find some way to tatoo this backwards on Jf'nK's forhead, so he can read it every morning? #5 - Posted by: MarginMI on August 13, 2004 05:43 PMMaybe John Kerry can propose some Anti-Hurricane legislation as an october surprise. But seriously, I have a proposition: Could you destroy or dissipate a hurricane by man-made means, such as by dropping a MOAB bomb or bombs in its eye, or around it? Would it make it collapse on itself? Would it increase it? Would it turn it into smaller more dangerous tornados? Is it smart to "play God" like that? #6 - Posted by: Protagonist on August 13, 2004 10:19 PMDon't know how crackpot this guy is, but Google found this for me... http://mb-soft.com/public/hurrican.html The critical thing is getting the energy to change frequency. #7 - Posted by: Max on August 14, 2004 02:58 AMWhy, Protagonist, you little unilateralist you. We should let the U.N. try to negotiate with hurricanes. #8 - Posted by: Dr. Zaius on August 14, 2004 11:51 AMI think all of you may be missing the point of the quote. Churchill is saying that war should not be entered into lightly, or thought that war can be won easily. And that the outcome of war cannot be guarenteed, becuase too there are too many unknowables. This is what he learned in the First World War, when the powers thought they would win easily beacuse they were on the side of "right". Isn't this exactly what Bush didn't understand going into Iraq? Mission Accomplished, Candies and Flowers and all that crap? #9 - Posted by: Richard Succer on August 16, 2004 11:56 AM1150 How can this all be right?
