Todays' wisdom is from great samurai general George Washington:

Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.

Your trust and your confidence is a prize that must be won through great hardship.

BTW, I'd like a list of some other great samurai I should be looking up quotes from.

How about quotes from ancient Greeks or ancient Romans. Come to think of it, the Romans also conquered the French. I'm sure you could find something in Julius Caesar's Gallic Wars or some of Homer's Epics.

Uh, Orwell is best known for his books illustrating the nasty side of socialism. He went for the old "Works great in theory" line, yes, but everyone nods at that - like everyone intelligent, he remembered the second half "...but it doesn't work".

Great suggestions. Don't forget George W. Bush. He has some great quotes from the address to Congress after 9-11:
