Unexpected Reaction
Posted by Frank J. at 12:11 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (52)

I just heard on FOX News that Bill Clinton had been admitted to a hospital for surgery, and my mental reaction was, "Oh my God; I hope he's all right."

Where the mindless Clinton hatred I used to have?

They just got more information: it's heart bypass surgery. Well, I hope he'll be all right.

First!!!

Gee, I hope Bill's OK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well, sort of.

I question the timing of this!

I think Hillary wants to run as a widow. She is probably secretly cackling.

#2 - Posted by: Jennifer on September 3, 2004 12:17 PM

I hope he is well..

I was not a fan of him as president, but I do respect his ability as a politician.

#3 - Posted by: tom on September 3, 2004 12:19 PM

This is just a ploy by the Democrats to get themselves back in the spotlight after Bush's great speech last night!

I bet they're jealous that we're living off the memory of President Reagan, so they want to martyr their own hero to boost Kerry's poll numbers!

#4 - Posted by: Brian C on September 3, 2004 12:23 PM

I hope the doctors are right wing.

I can see it all now...

"Scalpel. Ooops, shit, accidentally chopped his heart to pieces. What? You mean we dont have enough anethesia? Darn, he'll just have to get through the next 8 hours without it. OK, bring in the replacement rabid baboon heart. Doctor, why did you amputate all his limbs, he's having heart surgery..."

#5 - Posted by: duke_tx on September 3, 2004 12:25 PM
Where the mindless Clinton hatred I used to have?

Simple, really compared to Kerry, Clinton looks like super uber president. Clinton was just ineffective, Kerry on the other hand is down right dangerious.

#6 - Posted by: Monster Kabasue on September 3, 2004 12:36 PM

"Well, we went in, because all the intelligence suggested that he definately had a heart, but we just couldn't find it. I guess you should have called Scott Ritter. Go cry to Chirac, lefties."

#7 - Posted by: Phelps on September 3, 2004 12:44 PM

I'm going to bet that the moonbat left and the extreme right are both going to claim that Clinton did it on purpose to steal the limelight from Kerry one more time.

All in an effort to have Kerry lose and Hillary be lined up for '08.

Personnally, I'm starting to pull for an electoral tie. Let the House pick Bush then and the Senate pick Edwards. Not sure what would happen to the country but I bet Hillary would have a stroke...

#8 - Posted by: Faith+1 on September 3, 2004 12:55 PM

I hope Bill is alright. But if he should happen to pass on watch for a state funeral sometime in late October.

#9 - Posted by: Josh on September 3, 2004 12:59 PM

maybe Bill will get a Purple Heart for this.

#10 - Posted by: kkoch on September 3, 2004 01:17 PM

If Bubba dies, who will make me laugh?

Be strong (and don't grope the nurses) Mr. President

#11 - Posted by: Rob on September 3, 2004 01:20 PM

Where's your hatred? People who are in love have no time for silly things like hate. I've also noticed you've started asking for prayers. I'm all for praying and have been for all the folks in Florida but it just doesn't sound like typical Frank. Sounds more like somebody has shown you the light.

Just make sure one of you moves AFTER the election so that your voter registration isn't put into jeopardy.

#12 - Posted by: Wolf's Dawn on September 3, 2004 01:27 PM

As for Clintoon: "I thought I was just having a Mac Attack..."

#13 - Posted by: Wolf's Dawn on September 3, 2004 01:28 PM

Those Big Macs keep getting intercepted by warlords.

#14 - Posted by: John on September 3, 2004 01:31 PM

"Oh my God; I hope he's all right."
That was my reaction too. Darn, I'm going soft! Must go find some hippies to beat in order to toughen up for the rest of the campaign season. Ta-ta!

#15 - Posted by: jonag on September 3, 2004 01:42 PM

Ok, who are you and what have you done with Frank J?

#16 - Posted by: Jason Bontrager on September 3, 2004 02:00 PM

Actually, Florida could use more Bush voters. I think he has Texas sewn up tight.

#17 - Posted by: Frank J. on September 3, 2004 02:13 PM

I bet that Clinton was so pained over not being able to get some media time at the RNC, that it was too much for him and he choked on his own swollen ego.

#18 - Posted by: Scrubby on September 3, 2004 02:26 PM

He has a heart?

#19 - Posted by: James Old Guy on September 3, 2004 02:26 PM

Thankfully my reaction was "I hope he dies during the bypass" but then thought "that might help spit-ball Kerry" and then "it's a vast left-wing democratic conspiracy" and then I drifted off to my usual day-dream of a large meteor hitting the convention hall during the democratic convention which made me feel much better...

BTW: that tree in your front yard... Kill it NOW before it get any bigger.. it's a magnolia. It will only spread debris and disease (mosquito's hatch in the standing water puddled up in the fallen leaves)

#20 - Posted by: V on September 3, 2004 02:27 PM

I'm not kidding about the tree... KILL IT NOW!!!

#21 - Posted by: V on September 3, 2004 02:29 PM

but don't you want to be in a state where you vote for the guy who wins the state? great chance for that in texas.

#22 - Posted by: sarahk on September 3, 2004 02:33 PM

V,
I'll kill it if the hurricane doesn't.

#23 - Posted by: Frank J. on September 3, 2004 02:35 PM

you should replace it with a nice pear tree or a shrubbery.. that's it, a shrubbery...

Knight of Ni: One that looks nice.

Arthur: Of course!

Knight of Ni: And not too expensive.

Arthur; Yes!

Knight of Ni: Noowwwww.... GO!

#24 - Posted by: V on September 3, 2004 02:38 PM

My initial reaction was; "I bet James Carville is getting him to "take one for the team". I too, must be getting soft on ol' Bubba. I suppose it's because he really didn't do anything (after the Crime Control Act of 1994) to hurt the country and compared to Kerry, he seems like a decent, honest and honorable person.
As long as the "Head Nurse" isn't an intern, he should be o.k.

#25 - Posted by: macbeau on September 3, 2004 02:39 PM

Does that mean sarahk is moving to Florida?

Texas is better even though I've never been there. I'm a Cowboys fan so I know these things. They also have armidillo's which is a cute word. I've never been to Orlando either. But I have been to Ft. Meyers, Ft. Lauderdale and Coral Springs (Elrina, why are you waiting the storm out in Del Ray??!!). Great place to vacation but only in the winter. I was there in August once and I don't know how people function in that kind of soupy humidity. I also didn't appreciate the constant "There's an alligator!" comments when I was boating down the canals. Floridians like to scare tourists with that kind of humor.

#26 - Posted by: Wolf's Dawn on September 3, 2004 02:46 PM

They have armadillos in FL. too.. and gators.. both are delicious...

#27 - Posted by: V on September 3, 2004 02:51 PM

sarahk

I came to Florida from Texas this year as part of the VRWC to reclaim the state. Maybe I'll move back after November. Florida is cool, but I still miss the Repbulic of Texas.
Frank: move to TX, it's bigger and God has a harder time finding you with hurricanes...tornadoes might get you, but doubtful on the hurricanes.

#28 - Posted by: Brett on September 3, 2004 02:53 PM

For a guy who was getting yearly medical exams for 8 years while he was president, seems he went from healthy to clogged up in about four years....

#29 - Posted by: geematt on September 3, 2004 02:56 PM

Hmm. I felt but apathy when I heard it.

#30 - Posted by: Boudicca on September 3, 2004 02:58 PM

hey, who's posting as me????

#31 - Posted by: sarahk on September 3, 2004 03:08 PM

sarahk,
Huh? What are you talking about, crazy girl.

#32 - Posted by: Frank J. on September 3, 2004 03:14 PM

I'm surprised no one has touched on this. W is getting his 5 to 8 point bounce from the convention and Kerry is in a tailspin, lashing out.

First and foremost, the Clintoons are survivors. Bill is the Democraps largest fundraising draw, Hillary is second. THEY ARE WRITING OFF THIS CAMPAIGN! Bill is going to be out of circulation for a minimum of 6 weeks according to his doctors. So they've got nothing to lose by having Bill's surgery now...except to plan for 2008. Any takers on this one?

#33 - Posted by: AMJoe on September 3, 2004 03:38 PM

That's how I reacted too. And I thought about it for a while, because, hello, I don't like him. But I realized, that while his politics are horrible, he doesn't seem like SUCH a bad guy. I mean, sure, everyone knows about his badness, but he seems like a pretty nice guy. (unless you're his intern, which I'm not) Plus, heart disease is a sad thing. And compared to John Kerry, Clinton seems like...really better than he used to.... Lol.

#34 - Posted by: Jen on September 3, 2004 04:12 PM

Frank J,

It is normal and good for you (and the rest of y'all reading) to be concerned when you hear on the news that someone, even a Clinton, is in for heart surgery. That is what separates you from the despicable left, who would jump for joy if a political enemy had a heart attack.

Remember the liberal pundit who said she hoped Mrs. Powell fed Colin lots of meat and butter so he would have a heart attack?

Remember Spike Lee saying he wanted to shoot Charlton Heston with a .44?

How many times have you heard leftists joke about Cheney's heart?

And when Bush flew to Iraq for Turkey Day, how many of you heard leftists joke that they wished some Iraqi could have gotten lucky with an RPG?

THEY WANT US TO DIE. THEY WANT OUR LEADERS TO DIE.

We, on the other hand, are the better humans. We disagree with Clinton's policies and were happy to see Bush replace him in the White House. But we never wanted to see him dead. That isn't a human thought.

This just shows yet again why we are the party of compassion, and they are the party of hate.

#35 - Posted by: dvgulliver on September 3, 2004 04:14 PM

Good to see you are safe and sound, Frank.

As much as I hate to say it..
I hope he is ok, too.

I don't wish ill will on anyone, not even traiterous scum like Clinton.

I just read this Proverb last night:

Proverbs 24:17-18 (NASB)
Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; Or the LORD will see it and be displeased, And turn His anger away from him.

#36 - Posted by: Joshua on September 3, 2004 04:33 PM

Well said dv. Remember, Viagra has only been on the market for a few years and "can" cause heart problems...heh...I just had to say it.

Then again, would Wild Bill need Viagra?

#37 - Posted by: Carl P on September 3, 2004 04:37 PM

I fear, Frank, I fear. The trip to the grand canyon left you with high morale and love for [most of] humanity. Needless to say this is not commensurate with the style of writing we all know and love. If we started making grammatical suggestions (I picked up on how much you like that), would we have the old Frank back? Dad lost his job in the Navy due to Bubba, my first reaction to the surgery was actually just a chirpy "whoops!" when I heard. I'm hoping he WILL overshadow Kerry though, that could be a great unintentional benefit.

#38 - Posted by: LokiVonBismarck on September 3, 2004 05:28 PM

Hmmm...I knew that Bubba didn't want to campaign for Kerry but this might be a bit much.

P.S.-Frank: best of luck with weekend's weather. Besides, it could be worse...imagine what would happen if Michael Moore fell on your house.

#39 - Posted by: CPT. Charles on September 3, 2004 05:38 PM

I think I can speak for most everyone when I say that it'd be sad to see that hillbilly President of ours go out like this. Honestly, I expected Hillary to kill him while he slept (shooting him gangsta style, yo), not to a clogged up heart.

It's not that we hate Slick Willy like we HATE John Kerry (that weenie coward that he is...pbtwooy!); it's just that he's kind of dumb. And when he wasn't cheating on his demon of a wife, he was an alright kind of guy, in a loser "how'd we elect you?" kind of way. Clinton was basically harmless and frisky. Just as Gore was boring and much like talking to a tree stump. Hillary was the only real threat there, and she had no office.

So I hope all works out for Billy so as he can get back on the road to promote his book, which this may just be a publicity stunt for.

#40 - Posted by: Tim E on September 3, 2004 05:54 PM

And by the way, this is what we call "compassionate conservitism".

#41 - Posted by: Tim E on September 3, 2004 05:55 PM

Hmmph. Next thing you know, you'll be telling us to be nice to hippies.

#42 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 3, 2004 06:03 PM

Dave,
Just be nice to the hippies with a bum ticker. All the healthy ones can run away, so they're fair game.

#43 - Posted by: Tim E on September 3, 2004 06:25 PM

Ok, so they have armidillos in FL. But I bet you they say the word better in Texas!

Clinton is not a nice guy. He abused the office of the Presidency of the United States and he had a good time doing it. Please, just because John Kerry is dispicable, let's not forget that Bill was and is a slime ball.

I do not wish ill on anybody. I hope he is going to be fine but I refuse to say anything nice about scum.

#44 - Posted by: Wolf's Dawn on September 3, 2004 08:20 PM

Yeah.....but secretly, I've always found him kind of appealing. NO NOT LIKE THAT! Like an uncle or something. He's just always seemed nice to me. Except that he's an unfaithful jerk. But hey, if YOU married Hilary....don't say you wouldn't do the same thing. Except I think that everyone here would be way to smart to marry Hillary.

#45 - Posted by: Jen on September 3, 2004 09:25 PM

just heard Hillary on the radio informing us, in the manner of an uninterested press secretary, that Bill would undergo bypass surgery next week. She then went on to state how lucky they were to have excellent health insurance and that it was HER hope that all Americans could soon have the same. No joke, she said it. Her husband is in INTENSIVE CARE and she is out making political points on his misfortune. She didn't say a thing about Bill that evidenced one ounce of human concern. Is she THE prime number one bitch or what? If I were Bill I would have done Monica and any babe walking just to wash the thought of that nasty ugly piece of crap out of my brain. Get well, Bill. And bitch-slap that thing into next week because restraining yourself from administering a serious beatdown to that shriveled dry hole is probably what landed you in the hospital in the first place. Seriously, get well.

#46 - Posted by: JingoJim on September 4, 2004 12:42 AM

Dear FrankJ
I'm a tye-dye wearing liberal, but i like to read your posts because they are funny, to the point, and you seem to enjoy making fun of everyone in office, no matter where they're party affiliations may lie. Satire is a wonderful thing.
When you recently posted a wish for former President Clinton to be all right after hearing about his upcoming surgery, i realized that you, too, have a heart, and can even feel compassion for a former butt of your jokes.
On my side, i have to admit that Ronald was a great president. I didn't always agree with his politics, but he got the job done. In the long run, keeping the country alive and well is the most important thing.
I, like most that will be reading this, am scared of what the next four will bring upon this great nation of ours. I can only hope that it will do more good than harm.
By the way, FrankJ, hope that your home is still standing when you get back to it.
Keep up the good satire!

Back when I was in high school, the guys in the Rice University Band caught a bunch of armadillos and painted em white with a little orange longhorn on the side, and let them loose on the UT Band at halftime.

Looked like a bunch of football helmets running around the field.

Funniest thing I've ever seen done with an armadillo.

#48 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 4, 2004 10:32 AM

JingoJim: Hillary probably couldn't care less about Bill. I'm convinced the only reason she hasn't divorced him is because that would completely wipe out her 2008 shot at the White House.

#49 - Posted by: Spetiam on September 4, 2004 02:48 PM

dvgulliver: Your blanket statements about liberals wanting the opposition dead are nonsense, and I'm sure you know it. I, a liberal, have never wished illness or death on any Republican, and I don't know anyone who has. I disagreed vehemently with Reagan, but would never rejoice in his illness or death. There are nuts on both sides of the fence, Lord knows.

It's very easy to tar-and-feather the other side, dvgulliver, but it certainly isn't classy. Not that you probably care.

yOu know, Bill himself always struck me as a bit of a buffoon. Annoying, a little amoral, certainly, but not really. .well. . .terrible. THe people around him were worse than he was. he was a good old boy caught with his pants down who was tryign to get away with it. That is a natural reaction. my view of him is that he was WAY too much of a push - over, so he let polls, and the people around him, just lead him hither and thither and yon. The TRUELY despicable people in thehe impeachment campaign were the others around him. namely, for example, Hiillary. SHE makes my skin crawl. And if I had a choice between Clinton and kerry I woudl vote for Clinton so fast your head woudld spin. With Clinton, if you put strong willed advisors around him you could possibly get him to do the right thing. . .
