Political Comic: Rather's Last Stand
I was inspired by current events to draw my very first political comic, full of subtle symbolism.
Eat your heart out, Cox & Forkum. UPDATE: Now that I think of it, isn't it quite apropos to use a crude drawing to make fun of crude forgeries? 52 Responses To "Political Comic: Rather's Last Stand"
This cartoon is a riot. I only wish I had 1/2 the creative imagination you possess. LMAO. #1 - Posted by: chuck45 on September 12, 2004 12:12 PMFrank, you rock. That cartoon is hilarious. #2 - Posted by: Purple Fury on September 12, 2004 12:39 PMMuch better and funnier than reading the Sunday comics! I especially like "pointy hat for some reason", I don't know why, it just cracked me up.) #3 - Posted by: MountainMama on September 12, 2004 12:49 PMHa ha ha! Are the pajamas the symbolism? Hilarious. Absolutely. #4 - Posted by: LEMadison on September 12, 2004 12:58 PMrotflmao!!! Too good!!! Perhaps the "pointy hat" was to hide a small and pointy head??? #5 - Posted by: Ms Cat on September 12, 2004 01:02 PMPajamas, Spiked Clubs, Battle Axes, Pikes, Halbreds, Shilelleaghs, Swords, Morning Stars, Maces. Frank in his Boxers. Too Cool! The Internet Alamo. I'll opt for Chain Mail and a two handed Claymore. Jack. #6 - Posted by: Jack Deth on September 12, 2004 01:03 PMObviously a forgery of Ted Rall's work. #7 - Posted by: Laurence Simon on September 12, 2004 01:33 PMLaurence, Hey, I just realized that that's not an "I", it's an "l", 'cause I'm LMAO! Okay, okay. More cartoons! #9 - Posted by: Tuning Spork on September 12, 2004 01:43 PMWhere's Chomps? Damnit! #10 - Posted by: Sticky B on September 12, 2004 01:55 PMRather is naked and has no penis #11 - Posted by: Apollo on September 12, 2004 02:00 PMA new version of 'The Emperor's New Clothes.' Tres cool, thou artiste... #12 - Posted by: thefoxymama on September 12, 2004 02:05 PMUhm... can we like order signed and numbered prints? I'm, you know, into first editions and thought that this could be worth a fortune someday. Also, do you have a version in color? #14 - Posted by: Trooper John Smith on September 12, 2004 02:31 PMGreat cartoon, Cox & Forkum ain't got nothing on you!!
Keep your day job Frank #17 - Posted by: Another Jack on September 12, 2004 03:49 PMThis is obviously an inept forgery. I opened Microsoft Paint and in just seconds was able to … oh, the hell with it. #18 - Posted by: Jeff Harrell on September 12, 2004 04:14 PMThe dunce oops, I mean journalistically challenged cap Rather is wearing is too much! Chris D: Jonathan Klein, debating Stephen Hayes about the forgery scandal, said that "Bloggers have no checks and balances... [it's] a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas." As if the MSM had checks and balances... (hat tip to Instapundit) #21 - Posted by: Nathan on September 12, 2004 06:44 PMI read The Puppy Blender, Frank. I link to it through the Rottie. Then drop in here. Jack. Frank, you have so many talents! And, boy, you look mean! Grrr... So how come there aren't any chick bloggers in your sexist depiction of the new media revolution? Bloggettes are not represented. Please draw me in with a chain-saw and pneumatic nail gun. Rather looks open to me and my nail-gun has range and gets great penetration. Also, Frank, I have a pony tail. And I would like to wear something pink, feminine, maybe a light floral print as a nice juxtaposition to the evisceration I'm going to do later in your cartoon. Taffeta and gore will make some news, I think. If I let Rather keep his lungs, maybe he can try to report the facts of his demise. *Psssssttt* Dan Rather is a belligerent bag of smelly ego. Retire, already, old man! #24 - Posted by: NuclearTinkerbell on September 12, 2004 08:48 PMwhere's minerva in this comic? He's wearing the pointy hat because he's actually a worlock who's powers are fading fast. #26 - Posted by: jonag on September 12, 2004 09:41 PMI'm glad you didn't put the bloggers in BLACK pejammers Frank, because we all know that the BLACK pejammer crowd supports Rather #27 - Posted by: Rob on September 12, 2004 09:53 PMWhat's Dan Rather's email? I want to send him a fake "you're fired!" letter and see if he falls for it. #28 - Posted by: ReportingForDoody on September 12, 2004 10:15 PMNow on sale at eBay: #29 - Posted by: Protagonist on September 12, 2004 10:45 PMHey, you should send this to a paper.
I bet you did it with Microsoft Word, using standard defaults. #31 - Posted by: J_Crater on September 13, 2004 12:11 AMI normally just lurk, but... Much better than my attempt at forgery, I wasted 10 hours trying to reproduce the documents on my Seletric. #33 - Posted by: Monster Kabasue on September 13, 2004 01:31 AMSomebody should go ahead & trade mark Dan Rather's name with the 'th' superscripted.. Just for Laughs.. (I just cannot see his name without my mental imp changing his last name to "Blather" It's sad.... Great cartoon Frank! #34 - Posted by: LokiDoki on September 13, 2004 04:25 AMLove it! :) Thought I'd share my most recent comic you might get a kick out of, available at http://defeatjohnjohn.com/comics.htm :) #35 - Posted by: John on September 13, 2004 04:45 AMI call dibs on being identified with the lefty! Umm . . . That is, lefthanded, not left-wing. #37 - Posted by: Josh on September 13, 2004 01:39 PMToken chick blogger: the bald, left-handed one is me (minus appropriate melanin). #38 - Posted by: Juliette on September 13, 2004 04:35 PMThis is clearly stolen work! Trying to pass off Napoleon Dynamite's talents off as your own is just dispicable. (P.S. If you don't understand that reference you've missed the film of the year!) #39 - Posted by: So It Begins on September 13, 2004 05:04 PM
#40 - Posted by: chris on September 14, 2004 11:16 PM
Without any effort at all I was able to reproduce Dan Rather 14 times in about 8 seconds. Seven at CBS, two at NBC, five at ABC. OK! OK! Rathers in disguise. #41 - Posted by: Allan on September 15, 2004 12:06 AMThat's fun...may I contribute my own? #42 - Posted by: G. Andrew Duthie on September 15, 2004 12:24 AMYou should have had more than one left-hander. That one isn't me; I'm certainly not bald. You know it is really over for CBS when references to Rathergate even start appearing in mainstream newspaper comics... Not that your comic isn't any good, Frank ;-) #44 - Posted by: Maarten Schenk on September 15, 2004 03:44 AMYou needed a couple of ( ) ( ) Mister Ghost, Is the pointy hat made out of tinfoil, to block out "the frequency?" #47 - Posted by: mailman on September 15, 2004 09:41 AM"Bloggers In Pajamas (Charles is B1). "BUT! They were REAL fakes!" Remember, he used fake information before, about all the supposed Vietnam Vets being dopers and losers and traumatized, knowing it was not true. #49 - Posted by: mummsey on October 4, 2004 04:28 AMPost a comment
