Movie Review: Team America: World Police
Posted by Frank J. at 12:43 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (41)

Over the weekend, I went to see Team America: World Police with SarahK. It was so profane and offensive that it probably earned me a week in purgatory.

But it was worth it.

Do you want to laugh your pinky-toe off while watching France get blown to smithereens and the Hollywood left get slaughtered? Of course you do. This has to be one of the funniest movies every made... and there are explosions!

In the plot, the force for good, Team America, recruit an actor, Gary, to help them infiltrate and kill terrorists. Then Kim Jong Il of North Korea arises as a threat, using the Film Actors Guild to help him in his evil plot to destroy the world.

Explosions and hilarity ensues.

And songs, lots of hilarious songs (make sure to stay through the credits to hear Kim Jong Il sing "You're So Worthress, Arec Bardwin"). SarahK started laughing so hard at the country song "Freedom Isn't Free," that I thought people were going to start staring at us. The theme, America, F**K YEAH, is so catchy that SarahK, who hates swears, later in the day kept singing "America..." only to catch herself and stop. I'm so getting the soundtrack when it comes out on Election Day (and probably a copy for my brother so he can play the theme when fighting in Iraq).

The movie ends with a profound speech dividng people into three camps, and it is very insightful... but I can't repeat any of it because the whole premise is vulgar.

Anyway, go see Team America, it's worth a buck o' five (unless you are offended by anything, because that will probably be in the movie). I give it four and a half stars out of five.

It's on my "to do" list with the B-I-L this weekend!

Hilarious movie.

"Derka derk mohammad jihad."

#3 - Posted by: indorphin on October 20, 2004 12:52 PM

just to clarify... i always would sing "America... FRANK! WHY DID YOU TAKE ME TO THAT VULGAR MOVIE!" and never got to the Milli Vanilli Yeah part.

and Freedom Isn't Free is one of the funniest things i've ever heard. i literally thought my pinkytoe might fall off from all the laughter. Frank didn't appreciate it as much as i did, because he doesn't listen to country as much as i do nor live in the Texas panhandle.

"i cant compete with him... Alec Baldwin is the greatest actor alive!"

"Matt Damon."

#6 - Posted by: Black Swan on October 20, 2004 01:32 PM

what does I M A O stand for? It took me three years to figure out what LMAO means. Love the site and think I'll have to check out the movie. BTW, there's a huge Mr. Hanky on one of the buildings in the REAL South Park, Colorado.

#7 - Posted by: Sheryl K on October 20, 2004 01:32 PM

I've got the soundtrack comin' too. Can't wait.

#8 - Posted by: MetallicaRat on October 20, 2004 01:41 PM

I have got to go out and see this movie.

#9 - Posted by: ThaSickness on October 20, 2004 01:51 PM

Frank, I found a less vulgar way to describe the speech here... don't be fooled by the name of the post - I VERY MUCH ENJOYED THE FILM!!!

*****/*****
Greatest. Movie. Ever!

"If you %@$# us over, I'll rip off your balls and shove them up your @&$, so that the next time you %*&@, you'll %*^@ on your balls!"

I almost died after that one.

#11 - Posted by: Turkeyhead on October 20, 2004 01:52 PM

When I first herd about this film I thought I was going to love it. (Occasionally I like satires/parodies)(of dhingers'). But I don't know. I've heard some stuff about it recently that give's me pause. It almost sounds like it's pro-war or something.

This is totally irresponsible. Especially with the puppets (children watching? bad influence). Thumbs down. (Don't think I'll see.)

#12 - Posted by: iraqwarwrong on October 20, 2004 02:08 PM

oh no, iraqwarwrong. Where could we have gone wrong? What were we thinking? How could we be pro-war and on top of it, go see a pro-war movie? Wait a second... I've seen your site before. It's so bad everyone thinks its satire itself.

#13 - Posted by: Editor on October 20, 2004 02:13 PM

I won't have anyone question the authenticity of iraqwarwrong's views.

#14 - Posted by: Frank J. on October 20, 2004 02:22 PM

irony IS dead.

#15 - Posted by: j on October 20, 2004 02:28 PM

Yup, there's gonna be lots of children at an R-Rated movie alright!

I thought it was hilarious, although there weren't many other women there that would agree with me. I went to see it with my fiance and we were a couple of the few people who actually laughed. Dirty looks ensued, but we didn't care. I think there may have been a more than a few liberals there to see it, perhaps thinking that the movie would be as hard on the right wing as it was on the left wing.

#17 - Posted by: sickofbs on October 20, 2004 02:31 PM

Iraqwarwrong,

Refusing to see it because of some things you heard about it? Sounds similar to discussions about a certain "mockumentary" that came out not too long ago.

As far as children watching...just because it has puppets does mean parents are required to let their kids watch it. Fritz the Cat and Heavy Metal were cartoons, but that doesn't make them kids films. Not theatrical masterpieces I will grant you, but never intended for kids. Neither is this.

Is it pro-war, or is it tongue-in-cheak about how "pro-war" hollywood is in their movie making. No one has profited more from war in this country than the film industry, going way back to the dawn of the industry. Perhaps the hollywood types are a little hypocritical, producing and starring in war film after war film for 75 years and yet using their influence to denounce government policies.

Frank J, nice work standing up for Iraqwarwrong's views. Proof yet again that you are not a Democrat or Liberal you choose to stifle any opposing voice.

#18 - Posted by: Chris on October 20, 2004 02:38 PM

Iraqwarwrong, you're so right. We should all be SHOCKED that the makers of Southpark had the NERVE to use puppets like that. Not.

Seriously dude, Matt & Trey explored "the children" during SP:BLU. Remember the T&P movie?
Let me quote a line from SP, which I feel neatly sums up my reaction to your "views":

"Ok, now let's hear from someone who isn't a complete retard"- Mr. Garrison.

Need I say more?

#19 - Posted by: Eric on October 20, 2004 02:43 PM

Frank,

You were funnier before you got a girlfriend.

#20 - Posted by: on October 20, 2004 02:57 PM

Chris, you knucklehead. Iraqwarwrong is Frank.

#21 - Posted by: Beo on October 20, 2004 03:19 PM

Beo you are SO wrong I don't know even were to begin. I am totally not Frank (Frank can back me up on this, here).

First of all Frank is a dhinger (openminded but still dhinger) HELLO?

#22 - Posted by: iraqwarwrong on October 20, 2004 03:23 PM

Come on Frank, the jig is up. All those posts on IWW's blog, the misspellings, wrong punctuation, improper use of contractions - they look just like your posts on IMAO before you edit them. ;-)

#23 - Posted by: Beo on October 20, 2004 03:35 PM

I've gathured from several vague statements from this sight that Frank loves having his speling/grammur korrected. I agrea, korrect speling is kritical to maitayning a gud blahg. There, that was my democratic underground impression. Was it too articulate?

#24 - Posted by: LokiVonBismarck on October 20, 2004 03:42 PM

Sorry Loki,

Bad impression, I actually understood what you wrote.

#25 - Posted by: Vtwin on October 20, 2004 03:53 PM

Totally Off Topic, but necessary:

Frank, you discourteous cur.

It's Michelle Malkin's birthday!

Gather some names of well wishers and Trackback her.

Fine.

#27 - Posted by: Frank J. on October 20, 2004 03:55 PM

"Matt Damon!"

Why was that so funny? I can't explain it, but I just busted up every time they did that. It's completely childish, and yet hilarious.

#28 - Posted by: Bill on October 20, 2004 04:35 PM

"Freedom Isn't Free" is the best country western song parody EVER! Montage is also a great song for all film affectionados.

When I grow up, I want to be Trey Parker's mistress.

#29 - Posted by: Jennifer Corley on October 20, 2004 05:49 PM

I saw this at Harkins Flagstaff - so I was with a theater mostly full of college-aged people. The place was in hysteria the whole time. I loved the movie. The music was great, and the "lets make fun of liberals AND The media" just was awesome.

I'm ronery, so ronery...

#30 - Posted by: Dan G. on October 20, 2004 06:26 PM

They had me the second they blew away the mime. Did you notice the streets of Paris were paved with croissants?

#31 - Posted by: wolfboy on October 20, 2004 07:40 PM

Matt Daemon! Matt Daemon!

I think the Matt Damon puppet would have been funnier if they had glued a white protective helmet to its head.

I do have to hand it to Trey Parker and Matt Stone, those boys really know their porn!

...for those of you that don't know what I am taking about, go see the movie!

#32 - Posted by: Bozark on October 20, 2004 07:46 PM

purgatory schmurgatory... that ain't in da Bible!

I wouldn't see another movie from SP creators.

They suck!

#36 - Posted by: Joshua on October 20, 2004 10:02 PM

In this movie, a Susan Sarandon puppet jumps out of the chair with submachine guns in each hand, screams "You will die a peasant's death!" and then get's riddled with bullets before being blown off a balcony.

Friends, I know this is gonna sound bats--- f---in' loco to your virgin ears, but I promise you THAT is funny...

#37 - Posted by: Scott on October 21, 2004 01:09 AM

I, uhh, heard from a friend that the soundtrack's already around Al Gore's invention thingy if you know the right dark corners. Of course, that might invite more purgatory.

#38 - Posted by: Ian S. on October 21, 2004 01:30 AM

Everybody needs to be very kind and gentle with Frank J. It is 0'dark thirty, I'm on my lunch break, and I just heard Red Sox 10, Yankers 4.
