Question of the Day
Posted by Frank J. at 10:26 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (33)

I think it's safe now to admit that Bush stole the first election and served illegitimately. Thus he was elected for the first time for real yesterday. So, can Bush now run for real reelection in 2008?

My opinion is...

BWA HA HA HA HA!

What do you think?

Amendment XXII
Section 1

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Sorry. No "Bush '08," unless it's Daddy Bush, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, or Jeb Bush.

#7 - Posted by: Beo on November 3, 2004 10:33 AM

Seriously.
Hmmmm, yesssssss, and who will we get to run against Hillary (I cross myself) in '08?

#8 - Posted by: EffinNewGuy on November 3, 2004 10:34 AM

I vote Keyes-Fleischer '08!!

#9 - Posted by: Eliza on November 3, 2004 10:36 AM

WHEW! Well at least that means we'll only be seeing ONE of the Clintons (cross myself) on the Prez ticket from now on....

#10 - Posted by: EffinNewGuy on November 3, 2004 10:36 AM

McCain-Powell in '08!

Rummy-Chomps!

#13 - Posted by: ChrTh on November 3, 2004 10:42 AM

I'm honestly hoping for McCain-Rice, McCain-Giuliani, or Giuliani-Rice in 2008. But considering that Hillary Clinton will be the opponent, I'll do whatever I must to ensure a Republican victory (including an "Inanimate Carbon Rod" write-in vote if Hillary succeeds in murdering all live contenders).

Everybody move to battleground states sometime in the next four years so you can place them firmly in the red. lol

#15 - Posted by: Beo on November 3, 2004 11:07 AM

I'm still gathering military caliber ammunition to deal with the coming "Days of Rage" from the usual suspects who will continue to claim that the election was stolen.

Here's hoping for a target rich environment!!

Oh, BTW, what are the impressions from the "International Observers"?

Have yet to hear from Jimmy Carter.

Condi Rice 2008! WooHoo!

#17 - Posted by: rightwingimmigrant on November 3, 2004 11:29 AM

know you're completely being funny...but even in jest, my President did not steal the election in 2000 - he won the electoral overall and won the popular vote in Florida after 3 recounts by Bush-haters...'nough said. I am going to invest in the airlines now as so many disheartened left wing anti Americans will be leaving for new countries (or so they say)...YEAH PRESIDENT BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

#18 - Posted by: Bikermommy on November 3, 2004 11:34 AM

to Beo: if you don't count the days that Bush was on vacation as president time served then I think Frank is right but I don't want to encourage republicans to start working on using democrat tactics, or after last night do I? We lost so bad I'm confused....

The only person who could have done that was Harry Truman, who was in office when the amendment to the Constitution passed. Being one of the last decent Democrats, he passed on the opportunity.

However, it would be worth seeing leftists head explode if we suggest it.

What about Cheney for Pres, with W as Vice Pres?

#29 - Posted by: Steve on November 4, 2004 10:48 AM

According to James Wolcott, Bush didn't win this time either:

.... the only way Bush can win tomorrow is how he won last time, by losing the popular vote and squeezing out a win in the Electoral College, assisted by a compliant media and enough high-profile Democrats willing to roll over for "the good of the country."
If it's happened twice now, then obviously, Bush can continue not being elected forever!

The only remedy is impeachment. But even that only applies to presidents, not usurpers of power!

What is to be done?

#30 - Posted by: Eric Scheie on November 4, 2004 11:19 AM

Just remember everyone, Jeb is the smart one!!!

#31 - Posted by: whitestar on November 4, 2004 11:45 AM

Cheney/Bush '08 is actually quite legit - the term-limit amendment only blocks people from running as prez, not as VP. That said, I don't think it'd go over well. Besides, Bush sucks(Kerry sucks far more, mind you, and I'm still backing Bush, I'm just doing it for lack of alternatives instead of because I actually like the guy), I'd much prefer to get some new blood in there, and maybe even someone who knows how to balance a budget. The Giuliani/Rice thing looks promising, even if it may not happen, but there's enough choices to keep it reasonable.

#32 - Posted by: Alsadius on November 4, 2004 12:00 PM

Nu-uh. Former two-term presidents can't run as VPs. (I guess Carter or Bush Sr. could, technically)

Amendment XII:

"But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

As Amendment XXII is part of the Constitution and renders Clinton ineligible for president, he can't run for VP without conflicting with XII.
