Happy Birthday
Today, the day before Veteran's Day, is the 229th birthday of the U.S. Marines. A happy birthday to them, and I guess there's no better way to spend it than clearing out the scum in Fallujah. UPDATE: Here's a great article from the NY Post to go with the celebration. UPDATE 2: Reader curt sent in this joke: News anchor Dan Rather, The Reverend Jesse Jackson, NPR reporter Cokie Roberts, and an American Marine were hiking through the jungle one day when they were captured by cannibals. 29 Responses To "Happy Birthday"

Hopefully, my fellow Devildogs in Iraq will be able to give a birthday present to America. They've been trying to pick out something nice...how 'bout Zarqawi's head! 2nd Battalion 24th Marines #5 - Posted by: Jason on November 10, 2004 09:37 AMHappy birthday Jar heads from a former squid Semper Fi and may god do with you all gbfan #6 - Posted by: gbfan001 on November 10, 2004 09:50 AMim so stupid should have read "may god go with you" it pays to proof read #7 - Posted by: gbfan001 on November 10, 2004 09:51 AMTHANK YOU MARINES!!! I love you guys. #9 - Posted by: LynnGunn on November 10, 2004 09:57 AMHappy Bday Marines. A salute from USAF vet and current ANG member. #10 - Posted by: EffinNewGuy on November 10, 2004 11:02 AMEvery active-duty, former, or retired Marine I know has two birthdays: the anniversary of his or her birth and the 10th of November! This retired Army guy salutes you. #11 - Posted by: Bloodthirsty Warmonger on November 10, 2004 11:25 AM--Thanks, Frank... and to all the rest of you yahoos! --Happy 229th to my fellow Marines!! Especially to my son, the Lance Corporal, who is currently knee-deep in pain and glory in Fallujah! --God Bless America and long live the United States Marine Corps!!! --Semper Fidelis! #12 - Posted by: Devil Dog on November 10, 2004 11:43 AMThe NY Post article is great too. Thanks Frank! #13 - Posted by: bobthemad on November 10, 2004 11:53 AMFrank did anyone ever tell you that you look like Al Pacino. You know hoo-AH, hoo-AH!! -Semper Fidelis -Varium et mutabilis semper femina (Woman always changes and is ever fickle.) Remember this one Frank it will be important in the years to come. #14 - Posted by: Francis Sawyer on November 10, 2004 11:58 AMYou should tell us how Buck the Marine spent his birthday. #16 - Posted by: Capt Trevett at The Commmons on November 10, 2004 12:24 PMAt the risk of offending here, I'd like to let all the vets know of a special salute that's going to be done on Monday, Nov. 15 from 5 - 9. ALL the Golden Corral restaurants will be doing their Military Appreciation night. At this time, free all-you-can eat steak dinners are provided for veterans on the honor system. The restaurants usually have service organizations such as the D.A.V. present, as well as various active service personnel. With regards to Fallujah and the psy-ops people playing Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyrie", it would be most appropriate to also play Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party". Nothing like doing a number on the morale of those you're up against. SEMPER FI, Devil Dogs! *from a U.S.A.F. W.A.F. vet married to a U.S.M.C. vet* #17 - Posted by: Revandryn on November 10, 2004 01:00 PMDisappointed the Marine didn't "accidently" hit the other 3 with "friendly fire" though. Acceptable losses and such. #18 - Posted by: Stephen on November 10, 2004 01:06 PMInteresting. That joke has mutated from being one about an Israeli soldier (with the others being a European, a UN representative and a human rights activist) to being about a US Soldier. America - The New Israel? Looks like it. #19 - Posted by: shaulie on November 10, 2004 01:15 PMFunny joke Frank, too bad Dan Rather is a marine, along with Lee Harvey Oswald and Mr. Green Jeans from Capt Kangaroo. #20 - Posted by: Bullshark on November 10, 2004 02:27 PMgood one Frank. #21 - Posted by: Chris on November 10, 2004 02:56 PMBullshark; I think you mean Dan Rather tried to be a Marine, but he was washed out during Boot Camp. To that, all I can say is Romans 8:28.... LHO is another story. #22 - Posted by: Curt on November 10, 2004 03:55 PMActaully, Capt Kangaroo himself was a Marine, and fought in the Pacific during WWII. The actor Lee Marvin was in his unit, and called him "the bravest man I've ever seen...." #23 - Posted by: EffinNewGuy on November 10, 2004 07:17 PMMarines are my friends; happy birthday! #24 - Posted by: Jim Nichols on November 10, 2004 08:23 PM--Francis Sawyer: "Semper Fidelis" means "Always Faithful". --Can I get an "OOO-RAH" on that??? --OOO-Rah!! --Thanks, Me. #25 - Posted by: Devil_Dog on November 10, 2004 09:47 PMHappy 229th and an OOO-Rah to my fellow leathernecks #26 - Posted by: Tom Neeley on November 10, 2004 11:16 PMSorry, folks, Snopes.com has debunked the Captain Kangaroo myth. While he joined the Marines shortly before the Atomic Bombs were dropped on Japan, he never saw combat, and didn't serve with Lee Marvin. #27 - Posted by: Sharkman on November 11, 2004 12:26 AMLooks like the Marines need a new verse to the Hymn. Something like "from the ashes of Fallujah to the shores of Euphrates." I'm a lousy poet...any current/former USMC and families therof want to give it a try? Happy 229th...Semper Fideles forever. #28 - Posted by: dukeofpittsburgh on November 11, 2004 02:14 AMDevil_Dog, What the crap...*goes to get dictionary* Semper Fidelis = Always faithful Post a comment
