Airport Security at It's Finest

Based on a true story:

(NOTE: I used a technique to try and make the comic darker. I hope it's good enough for all you complainers.)

LOL i love the happy expression on the drawings of sarahk

#1 - Posted by: random prose on December 20, 2004 09:05 AM

Second? And the expressions are quite amusing...

#2 - Posted by: nayrb5 on December 20, 2004 09:07 AM

i don't see a comic!

#3 - Posted by: sarahk on December 20, 2004 09:26 AM

It is good to see security taking precautionary measures. I was also impressed with the one cops ability to beat lefty without putting the donut down.

#4 - Posted by: gaskar on December 20, 2004 09:35 AM

Frank, I'm glad you used a technique, methods so often fail, those techniques are so money!

#5 - Posted by: spacemonkey on December 20, 2004 09:43 AM

I loved the Hate-Filled Lefty's surprise cameo. But what really got me laughing was the grin on the policeman with the baton. Author! Author!

Rendering a cartoon in something darker than a light blue pencil is a "technique"?

Making a pot of coffee must be an advanced process.

#7 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on December 20, 2004 10:30 AM

I guess it bothers me that Sarahk didn't look behind her and notice the Hate-filled Lefty standing there and just take him out herself. Now that's a cartoon I'd like to see (although this one is good too!).

#8 - Posted by: jonag on December 20, 2004 11:05 AM

Dave,
I draw it straight with a black pen (never restarting no matter the mistakes - though some are edited out in photoshop). It scans perfectly, but becomes lighter when I shrink. This time I adjusted the gamma down.

#9 - Posted by: Frank J. on December 20, 2004 11:17 AM

Popeye,
HFL meets SarahK and HFL meets me are going to be future comics. Already have them planned out.

#10 - Posted by: Frank J. on December 20, 2004 11:20 AM

I love it. The words should be darker, though. But that's the best thing I've seen in a long time

#11 - Posted by: Greg Sullivan on December 20, 2004 11:33 AM

Man, I was scared there for a sec. I almost got to the end of the comic and I thought Frank forgot to have HFL get beat down. whew... All is well.

#12 - Posted by: Army NCO Guy on December 20, 2004 11:59 AM

Okay, so what happened to the Pakistani standing behind HFL with no luggage and a one-way ticket? Did they get him one of those chauffered carts and drive him right up to the gate?

#13 - Posted by: Editor on December 20, 2004 12:05 PM

ha! I can't believe you did that to SarahK. Man... you are so lucky she has a sense of humor! I don't know if I would have been that nice.

#14 - Posted by: Janna on December 20, 2004 12:50 PM

Ok, turning down the gamma qualifies as a technique. I withdraw my coffee pot comment.

It is easier to read.

#15 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on December 20, 2004 02:28 PM

I never had a problem with your old technique. This new technique is more difficult to read. Sort of blurry or something...

#16 - Posted by: John K. on December 20, 2004 04:34 PM

Frank, to really make it dark try using the line art or 2-bit black & white settings on your scanner.

#17 - Posted by: R.L. Hunter on December 20, 2004 05:09 PM

Frank, I totally LOVE the police with their police hats and donuts. And I love "Please take off your shoes and pointy hat before going through security." LOL! The comics are great, is the 2nd IMAO book going to be a book of comics?

#18 - Posted by: MountainMama on December 20, 2004 09:26 PM

I love the evil grin on the cop's face! Mwa ha ha ha ha!!! Yay!

#19 - Posted by: LokiDoki on December 20, 2004 11:38 PM

i'm not as spacy as he draws me.

#20 - Posted by: sarahk on December 21, 2004 12:08 AM

If'n I was you, which I'm not, I would use a felt-tip-pen or Staedtler disposable technical pen (size: 05 or 07) to draw the Hate-Filled Lefty and other comics. It works much better.

#21 - Posted by: MagKnightX on December 21, 2004 06:50 AM

I think you should draw these with a red crayon...

#22 - Posted by: jean on December 22, 2004 09:38 AM

I think the Happy Evil-Grinning Cop needs to become a regular re-occurring character! ;P
