Kos Destroys Another 22 Families
Posted by Frank J. at 07:52 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (31)

Another tragedy in Iraq:

A mortar and rocket attack on a U.S. military base in the Iraqi city of Mosul killed at least 22 people and wounded more than 50 on Tuesday in one of the most deadly attacks on U.S. forces since last year's invasion [...] Iraqi militant group Ansar al-Sunna, a major player in the insurgency against the U.S.-backed government and U.S. forces, said it was behind the attack.

A defense official in Washington said it was not clear how many of the casualties were Americans.

The attack on a dining hall came at noon when many soldiers at Forward Operating Base Marez, at the northern city's airfield, would have been eating lunch. U.S. military camps in Mosul have tented mess halls seating hundreds of troops.

"There were an unknown number of rounds in a rocket and mortar attack," the official said. "We don't know the breakdown (of dead). We don't know if it's U.S., Iraqi, a combination."

People like Markos “Screw Them” Zuniga have done his best to side with the enemy against our military as to spite Bush's politics. Who will be the last to die for his rhetoric and partisan hatred?

Some things can be used to make funny, but this ain't one of them. Maybe it's best to ignore the the ID10Ts and take the high road?

#2 - Posted by: bubba on December 21, 2004 08:08 PM

Dang...didn't want to be first for something like that...that'll teach me to read first THEN post.

#3 - Posted by: DixieDarlin' on December 21, 2004 08:09 PM

Those bastards. TIME FOR MY GRAND PLAN!
1) Send several C-130s to circle Baghdad, Mosul, and Fallujah with loudspeakers telling people to leave.
2) Innocent people leave, terrorists say "WE NO LISTEN TO GREAT SATAN! WE STAY!
3) Carpet bomb the damn place. Then more carpet bombing. And more carpet bombing.

There, problem solved1

I just read through most of the comments to kos's post. There is virtually no mention of the soldiers and the loss of their lives except as a means to blame the President and his cabinet. No comments on their sacrifice. Nothing.

I don't like to hate people, but they make it nearly impossible not to. I am one of those contractors kos so crudely dismissed. I never was sent over, but when I volunteered, it was not out of a love of money. It was out of love for my country. Just like most civilians, I wanted to help our soldiers any way I could. These people want to help themselves. Kos is scum and I need to leave it at that.

#5 - Posted by: Silk on December 21, 2004 08:30 PM

My neighbor is currently waiting patiently to hear word if her husband is one of those dead. The basta*ds who did this can rot in hell...

As for Kos...I can't even read that sight without gagging...even I could figure out how to post (does anyone else find it mind numbingly difficult) I wouldn't want to sully myself.

Pray for those who died and those who survive them.

There is one benefit to the vicious bile spewed by Zuniga and his ilk - as their rhetoric becomes more unhinged and their contempt for their countrymen becomes more blatant, they increase the likelihood that the Democratic party will never again hold power.

My apologies for the double post: I was greeted by an 'Internal Server Error' screen and assumed the first comment had vanished into the aether.

#9 - Posted by: aelfheld on December 21, 2004 08:58 PM

bubba, by ignoring these idiots you encourage them. Like weeds, they need to be ripped out and exposed to the elements.

LGF is going at Kos for this, as is Frank, as am I, and so, hopefully, are hundreds of other blogs.

Expose their extremism, expose their partisanship and lack of basic patriotism or even humanity, and watch as they further alienate themsleves from the heart of America.

Here's a link to an Army Chaplin's blog. He writes about being at the Field Hospital where the casualties came in. If you are prone to crying, and feel lead to read, get you kleenex first. It s a straight forward post, with the good and the sad. Apparently, it was read in it's entirety on Hugh Hewitt today.

Kos, what a fucking asshole

#12 - Posted by: Chase on December 21, 2004 11:57 PM

All the Kos assholes gloat about it, as if the more Americans dead the better. What a bunch of cowardice assholes.

#13 - Posted by: Tyler on December 22, 2004 12:28 AM

I hope Kos burns in Hell.

#15 - Posted by: Trendy on December 22, 2004 07:53 AM

Kos is the bastard son of Ted Rall and Babs.....

#16 - Posted by: Greywolf on December 22, 2004 07:58 AM

Very bad luck in Mosul, thankfully, these insurgent knuckleheads can only do this by accident, and not on purpose (can't really aim a 107 or 122mm rocket).

#17 - Posted by: JohnG on December 22, 2004 07:58 AM

John G:

I think it was just bad luck. If you've ever seen clips of these guys firing a mortar, they just set up and start dropping rounds down the tube - no aiming, no fire correction from a forward observer, just lob shells. This is harrassment fire and they were bound to get lucky sometime.
My brother's base in Afgahnistan was subject to this kind of attack from time to time.

#18 - Posted by: Mikey on December 22, 2004 08:35 AM

In my opinion, to expose the enemy at home, such as Kos, is akin to combat. It's the war we must fight at home with a double edged sword in defense of our military (let everyone know we will NOT tolerate this type of vitrol, in conjunction with service members in particular & yes they are paying attention & greatly appreciate the effort) and to shine some light on exactly where their loyalties lie in respect to America as a nation.

#19 - Posted by: on December 22, 2004 08:57 AM

vitriol too

#20 - Posted by: on December 22, 2004 09:00 AM

Fine, let's take issue with the way Kos used language to frame the issue. Kos was insensitive yes.

However, we must remember that this was a war of choice. Bush said we had to take the war to our enemies. And so many people on this forum and others agreed with his bizarre "flypaper" strategy. Well, now that his "flypaper" is working we shouldn't be so surprised.

#21 - Posted by: Wil The Coyote on December 22, 2004 09:36 AM

Wil The Coyote,

Wow, thank you for your kind and sensitive words. Roughly translated:

"Yeah, Kos was insensitive. But watch how I can be just like him. Don't feel sorry for these soldiers. They deserve it because Bush is wrong from my point of view."

You are so much more sensitive than Kos. Thank you. I'm sure that the families of these heroes will thank you for the goodness of your soul.

#22 - Posted by: Nick on December 22, 2004 11:06 AM

And now, let's take issue with the language Wil "biteme@charter.net" the Coyote used to reframe the issue. Sure, it was uninformed.

The bizarre "flypaper" strategy is the same one used in warfare for, hell, lemme see...how long...hmmm,

Why, forever it would seem. At least since warfare began.

You can't kill an enemy who won't engage you in the field. Patton, Bismarck, R.E. Lee, et.al. Success is measured by who wins.

#23 - Posted by: Dave in Texas on December 22, 2004 11:10 AM

Sorry, I forgot to ask.

Mr. Coyote, can you please post the names of those political candidates whom you endorse so that I will know who to vote for next time? You have swayed me to a better way of thinking where I wish for my countrymen to die for political gain. It's so cool!

#24 - Posted by: Nick on December 22, 2004 11:14 AM

Wil is playing the old game of deflect and confuse the issue. Nobody here on IMAO, that I've seen, is "surprised" by service member's wounds and deaths. I see only sadness, prayers, and encouragement. Their issue with Kos seems to be the way he, and others like him, refuse to acknowledge the successes of service members while highlighting any failure or weakness and bringing dishonor to the service of the fallen at the same time as using their pain for political gain/furthering his own warped ideals.
I've never been angry at those who disagree with this war, or war in general (although I disagree with their stance), but I do become quite angry, taking it very personal, when service member's pain & suffering is used in this way by people I know really don't give a damn about them, or worse, hope for more pain and death to befall them.

#25 - Posted by: JJ on December 22, 2004 11:27 AM

Mikey:
If you read the chaplain's blog, he say's "Soon, the next mortar hit quite a bit closer than the first as they "walked" their rounds toward their intended target...us...Just before heading in myself, the last one hit directly on top of the hospital"

He seems to think that this wasn't random (maybe at first), but an intentional and calculated attack on a hospital! And we're supposed to be the bad guys because putting panties on these creeps heads is tantamount to torture?

If it weren't for the fact we actually value life it would be so easy to drop a nuke on the whole city.

#26 - Posted by: Masked Menace© on December 22, 2004 11:49 AM

I think the last to die for Zuniga's rhetoric should be Zuniga...nice and slow...

Provided that the Rumsfeld Strangler doesn't get him first, I'm sure someone would gladly volunteer demonstrating to the creep what real torture is; not just the quick and fast stuff with the wooden chair and power-drill.

#27 - Posted by: coffeeachiever on December 22, 2004 07:16 PM

Due to legal precaution, I do not, in fact, know of any method of torture, interrogation, or any form of inducement of pain that would involve a wooden chair, rope, pliers, anchoring bolts, and a power drill.

#28 - Posted by: coffeeachiever on December 22, 2004 07:19 PM

Forty percent of the country seems to be solidly against the war in Iraq, and forty percent seems to be solidly in support of it.

Mr. Zuniga is one of the most prominent and widely-read opponents of the war.

I wish Mr. Zuniga would change his mind about the war and become a supporter, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Is he full of hate, is he a traitor? I do think his strident opposition to the war contibutes to the tenaciousness of our enemies, and contributes to coalition deaths and casualties, but I don't know what motivates him, so I don't accuse him of hate and treachery.

If he refuses to be converted, then the best responses are supporting the troops materially and personally to the hilt, and duking it out with the appeasers/pacifists/lefties as best we can.

We go to war with the country we have, not with the country we might wish we had.

#29 - Posted by: Matthew Goggins on December 23, 2004 10:38 AM

It wasn't a mortar or a rocket. it was a suicide bomber. fu$%ing coward bastards...and yes, their mortar teams SUCK

I am in Iraq right now, and these motherfuc*ers just blow their IED's and run....or shoot their RPG's and run, but i killed three of them dickheads yesterday...damn, i love my M4.

good riddance to bad trash....
