Let's Play "Name That Cat"
A little gray kitten was found in the parking lot of my work place, and I agreed to take her home (when I get back from helping SarahK move this weekend). It's freaky, man; one moment I'm normal ole Frank J... and soon I'm going to be a cat owner! Well, I'm trying to think of a good name for a female cat where I can still keep some masculinity. I already had names for dogs picked out from my favorite fiction (when I finally get a dog, I'm naming him "Tuco"), but never considered naming a cat. What's a good heroine name for a kitty? Best I have so far is "Samus," but that's too geeky. Any ideas? UPDATE: Here's a picture of the kitten. 204 Responses To "Let's Play "Name That Cat""
You should name her "Slayer". I had planned on naming my beagle puppy that, but my poop head husband's not ready to be the father of a little hound. I encourage people to send him hate mail, co/ Me, and I'll tape it to his jeep windshield each morning. #1 - Posted by: Princess Kimberley on January 5, 2005 03:03 PMI suggest Nelly. Nelly is a name that suggests a rather strong or strong willed woman or some guy rappin'. Nelly gives you the best of both worlds #3 - Posted by: on January 5, 2005 03:09 PMBest Name Ever for a cat: Velcro. If you've ever seen them stuck to a screen door, you know what i'm talking about. #5 - Posted by: Angela on January 5, 2005 03:10 PM"Fluffy, the Liberal Slayer"... Slayer for short. Malkin? #8 - Posted by: Eric on January 5, 2005 03:11 PMIf she's noisy and destructive to my house, I could name her "Frances" or "Jeane". #10 - Posted by: Frank J. on January 5, 2005 03:12 PMWhat was the name of the cat that was resurrected in "Pet Sematary"? It was an evil little beast (as all cats are anyway). Our cat is named Fender. I also like Boomer, but in a pinch, Flammenwerfer (Flamm-en-ver-fur) will have to do. Or Zerstöer (Ts-erst-er-er). But seriously think about the name Greg for the cute little kitty. I had a terrific gray cat Syren. She was a bit of a nutcase - leaps across the livingroom after invisible moths, she'd bat a bottlecap around the kitchen floor until she "scored" it under the fridge, caught mice and would leave the head and the legs on the front porch (gak). She lived to be 15. We named a cat Peeve once, as in "Our pet peeve." #15 - Posted by: Tom on January 5, 2005 03:17 PMI second the Lady J vote... though I do love Samus... #16 - Posted by: I am Me on January 5, 2005 03:21 PMMy aunt and uncle had a great black cat named Fang. It was a great hunter of little birdies and small rodents. Unless you go with Condi (which was a way cool suggestion), best I can come up with is Cleopatra (Cleo). #18 - Posted by: BooManChu on January 5, 2005 03:24 PMThe Pet Cemetery cat was Winston Churchhill (Church for short). Not a good female name. I had a cat named Lola once. #19 - Posted by: gaskar on January 5, 2005 03:24 PMHow'bout "Claw". I think that was the name of the evil lion in the Lion King. No charge for that #20 - Posted by: Bryan Travis on January 5, 2005 03:27 PMHow about Hilary, pretty scary huh? #22 - Posted by: corwin8 on January 5, 2005 03:30 PMMaiden Both the torture device and the band have knocked some of the femme off of that one. #23 - Posted by: right on January 5, 2005 03:31 PMBryan, I named my cat Jager, don't think singer, think delicious herbal beverage. It also means hunter in German or something. My little cousin found a chihuahua and he calls it Business. Those things are kinda like cats. #25 - Posted by: guttrhead on January 5, 2005 03:32 PMHonestly, my cat's name is Fox. . . Because it kinda looks like one, not because of the news station. My best suggestion is Wingnut. Or maybe Wolf? #26 - Posted by: Josh on January 5, 2005 03:32 PMIron got me thinking about the Iron Lady. Thatcher might work. #27 - Posted by: right on January 5, 2005 03:35 PMA grey cat, I would name - Grey Goose. Her friends would likely call her Ms Goose. A female cat I would name - Monique Le Dragon. So, I can't decide. But I'm glad you're saving a cat. They are wonderful creatures. My wife and I foster home kittens that can't be taken care of at the shelter. I will mark you down for a good deed. Stick with Samus. Your cat couldn't get any cooler than naming it after an intergalactic bounty hunter...I mean seriously. Why are you even questioning it? #29 - Posted by: Freedomlore on January 5, 2005 03:45 PMNOTHING IS TOO GEEKY! Go with Samus! #30 - Posted by: John on January 5, 2005 03:46 PMTarget. ... but that tells you a lot about what I think of cats. #31 - Posted by: Justin Buist on January 5, 2005 03:50 PMThe updated "Battlestar Galactica" series has a female Starbuck. She's a tough but alluring little minx. Why not "Starbuck"? That's geeky, my friend. #32 - Posted by: JMD on January 5, 2005 03:51 PMOur cat is named Memphis, which is not only the home of country music, but was once the famed city of power in ancient Egypt where cats were worshipped as living gods. Cats have never forgotten this. Condi is of course a perfect name. But our soon to be Sec State is probably more of a dog person than a cat person. Condi is a great name for a she-wolf. If Condi was a cat, she would be a tiger. Or at least a lioness. But tigers suit her better because they stand alone while cowardly lions need to hunt in packs. How about Ann? As in Ann Coulter? I like the idea of Ann Coulter in a cat suit. (see my blog). #34 - Posted by: Gullyborg on January 5, 2005 04:01 PMi think she needs a Harry Potter character's name... to go with her sister cat Minerva... they'll spend a lot of time together... Weasley. or what's the name of the Herbology teacher? or Hermione. Fleur. what's Professor Trelawney's first name? or an ALIAS name. Sydney. Syd. Bristow. Irina Derevko. Anna Espinosa. no one say Larvin. otherwise, i like Condi. and Thatcher's not bad. #35 - Posted by: sarahk on January 5, 2005 04:02 PMi always thought it would be badass to name a cat skeletor #36 - Posted by: james on January 5, 2005 04:03 PMoh, and sweetie, i just caught what you said. you will NEVER be a cat owner. you, my dear, will be a cat slave. she owns you. #37 - Posted by: sarahk on January 5, 2005 04:04 PMHow bout a gun-related name? Colt, Barrett, Kimber, Bushmaster? Also Hippy Thrasher. #40 - Posted by: MWS on January 5, 2005 04:06 PMMy best friend (a former Marine) had two toms named "Chesty" and "Attila." Orc names are good. I once had a tom named "Grishnakh" who was a great and merciless slaughterer of anything small, cute and defenseless. Remember that cats are obligate carnivores. (Cats cannot synthesize arachadonic acid.) Name one as you would any highly specialized, ruthless, inherently cruel killing machine that must consume the flesh of the living to survive. #41 - Posted by: Moriarty on January 5, 2005 04:06 PM "arachidonic" PIMF. "Dogs have masters. Cats have staff." #42 - Posted by: Moriarty on January 5, 2005 04:11 PMHey - You ought to name her George - Short for Georgia - that's hip, no? #43 - Posted by: Mike on January 5, 2005 04:14 PMUmm Frank, remember this?http://www.imao.us/archives/001226.html #45 - Posted by: shrubber on January 5, 2005 04:20 PMMy better half rescued a cat this Christmas his name is Stew, because we didn't have any cat food so we gave him beef stew, which he liked. I am not averse to naming animals food names! Name her Hurley (a guy) but could be a girl! #46 - Posted by: Oddybobo on January 5, 2005 04:20 PMName it Justice Scalia! How about SIMBA? Wasn't that what they called the tiger in the old Tarzan movies? #48 - Posted by: Amelia on January 5, 2005 04:22 PMHow about "She Who Must Be Obeyed"? I had a gray cat named "Sasha" of whom I was very fond. Or rather I was a member of her staff. Or you could extend the roman myth theme to something like Diana, Venus or Juno. #49 - Posted by: TxDan on January 5, 2005 04:23 PMTry "that can I found which I gave away immediately." Life is too short, man. If you do decide to upset the natural order and allow the thing into your home, make darn sure you are not allergic first. That's all I'm sayin'. #51 - Posted by: John Climacus on January 5, 2005 04:26 PMOr Kofi! #52 - Posted by: Miranda on January 5, 2005 04:28 PMhow about, CATS SUCK #53 - Posted by: Joey D on January 5, 2005 04:31 PMTuna. Picture yourself leaning out the back door yelling: "TOOOOOOOOOOO-NAAAAAAA" repeatedly. If nothing else, you'll provide a regular chuckle for the neighbors... #54 - Posted by: Jack in TX on January 5, 2005 04:34 PM"Monkey Killer" or "Claws the Hippy-Slashing Cat" #55 - Posted by: TallDave on January 5, 2005 04:35 PMMy cat is named Wheezie after the proud matriarch of the Jefferson family (RIP). I think it is a good cat name and the world could use more cats named Wheezie. #56 - Posted by: Shtetl G on January 5, 2005 04:38 PMOh :P it's a girl.
In the Margaret Thatcher theme how about Maggie? My two are Boris and Natasha. #58 - Posted by: R.L. Hunter on January 5, 2005 04:40 PM"meow j" For a gray cat, how about Grayza. I have a client with a dog named Grover, he follows me around and sucks up things that fall on the floor-I call him Hoover. #61 - Posted by: Laura on January 5, 2005 04:43 PM"Narc," short for narcolepsy. perfect name for a cat... #62 - Posted by: Sac on January 5, 2005 04:46 PMTubman for Hariet Tubman, the heroine. how about just "heroine" lol #63 - Posted by: faith on January 5, 2005 04:47 PMsarok "Narc." short for narcolepsy. perfect name for a cat. #65 - Posted by: Sac on January 5, 2005 04:48 PMI think you should name the cat Tuco not your future dog. It is a more fitting name for a sneaky little creature like a cat, not a warm fun-loving animal like a dog. #66 - Posted by: steve on January 5, 2005 04:53 PMI'd like to second "Claws, the Hippy-Slashing Cat." Face it, Chomps is just angry, while a cat's destructive tendencies are so much more... creative. I like "Condi", too. My girlfriend has a boy cat named "Lady" because she thought he was a girl when she got him (runt kitten). Then one day she (he) started growing a couple of tumors between the legs. Now I call him "Lady Killer". That cat brings dead stuff home bigger than him. I used to hate cats, but this fellow has earned my respect. Good luck, Frank. #68 - Posted by: Mr. Bubble on January 5, 2005 05:05 PMElizabeth Ann It's gray... so how about Bea in honor of the two famous gray-haired heroines in my life, Bea Arthur and Aunt Bea? Floats like a butterfly, stings like a Bea? Maybe I need to work on this some more. #70 - Posted by: Windigo on January 5, 2005 05:06 PMAww, Frank's getting a kitty! I want to see pictures!! (If you refuse to participate in cat blogging, make SarahK post them for you!) Hmm, lessee... my current kitties are named Anastasia (the Grand Duchess) and Katarina. Something regal and exotic would do nicely for a female cat. Mostly, though, I've found that I need to live with a cat for a few days to figure out a good name for it. I have tried to name cats before that I hadn't really spent enough time with, and found myself calling them something else entirely. I had a male cat once that I named Bartholomew (thinking I'd be clever and call him Mew for short) and after a week or so I started calling him George, after our current President's father. I wanted him to be a kinder, gentler cat... but he kept impressing upon me his thousand points of teeth. #71 - Posted by: songstress7 on January 5, 2005 05:20 PMThis should be easy: These all have a certain ring to them Glock is nice. #73 - Posted by: princess kimberley on January 5, 2005 05:28 PMmousie-tongue imeow.us #75 - Posted by: Jack in TX on January 5, 2005 05:38 PMWe had a cat named after "Lady Jane Grey" who was a pretender to the throne of England at some point. A good name for a grey cat. Zenobia was a queen who conquered about a third of the Roman empire away from her city of Palmyra for a few years about 250 AD. #76 - Posted by: Chris Smith on January 5, 2005 05:40 PMIf this were a democracy, I had a pair of ducks once named Boris and Natasha. They slept in the chicken coop at night, and followed the kids out to the pond every morning, and followed them home to the chicken coop every afternoon. But then a fox got Natasha one day when they were out in the pond, broad daylight too! And Boris was never the same after that. He never went to the pond again, either. I think we ended up having him for Sunday dinner a few weeks later, to put him out of his misery. #78 - Posted by: MountainMama on January 5, 2005 05:47 PMFrank, How can you forget your own photo caption contest. SNIPER (goes with that whole gun thing you and SarahK have going). Did you see the story that the average American owns 1.7 handguns and the average gun owner owns 4.4. Waay ahead of the curve here!! Sleeper With a pressure cooker, several hours, and a nice orange glaze, you could call her lunch. #80 - Posted by: A fine scotch on January 5, 2005 05:52 PMOh, I like the name Coulter, after Ann Coulter, for the gray kitten. Our two cats are named Simba (yellow boy cat) and Mara (black girl cat who is the queen of the house, and the spitting image of those black egyptian cat statues from the museums, named after my daughter's favorite book that year, "Mara, Daughter of the Nile"). We have had Nala, Gracie, Katie (for a gray kitty who we called Kitty so long while we were trying to think of a name, and we thought "Katie" would be the kindest name since she already answered to Kitty) and Jessie. And our dog's name is Libby, which I heart as a pet name for female pets. #81 - Posted by: MountainMama on January 5, 2005 05:54 PMI like the idea above of Nine. 9mm It's all good. And when people are confused, so can say you named all your pets in order, this one was Nine. If they still look at you funny, you can say "you know, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, nine." Yes, I left out eight on purpose. I'm sneaky. Good LotR names: Arwen Good Harry Potter names: Mrs. Norris! Good political names: Condi Gun names: Nine Miscellaneous cat names: Simba But no matter what: this has to be the name that YOU like. SarahK is otherwise a perfect human being and the ultimate woman of all women--but naming that cat is YOUR task! Value her input, but YOU decide. #82 - Posted by: Gullyborg on January 5, 2005 05:55 PMMichelle #83 - Posted by: 007 on January 5, 2005 05:55 PMI like the imeow.us - that's cute! Or you could call her MAO ("my awesome opinion") - which, if she's a typical cat, she'll earn :) Otherwise, I think "Maggie" after Mrs. Thatcher is perfect! I'm owned by two lady purrs: Practically Perfect Princess Pixel of the Prodigious Pounce, and Silly Sultana Smudge of the Stupendous Swoop. "Pix" and "Mudge" if you're being informal.... ;-) #84 - Posted by: Romeocat on January 5, 2005 06:02 PMI don't know if these have been used because i got tired of ready. How bout: Shadow
Meat Loaf #87 - Posted by: Silicon Valley Jim on January 5, 2005 06:13 PMThis is a popular topic. Shere Khan - Courtesy of Rudyard Kipling's "Jungle Book" #89 - Posted by: on January 5, 2005 06:51 PMInitials are great. How about Crow-K? When you get bored, you can try to hit it between the wicks with a mallet. (Note: RWD is NOT a cat person) #90 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on January 5, 2005 08:29 PMGalen! Galen was known as "the Monkey Killer!" No, seriously! Here i think i would have to vote for lady j, so many different connections, one being having the same last initial. and uh, maggie is already taken by the bestest kitty in the whole wide world. #92 - Posted by: maggie katzen on January 5, 2005 08:36 PMMacavity. #93 - Posted by: karanadon137 on January 5, 2005 08:45 PMFirst, make sure that it truly is a female kitten. You get some funny looks from the vet referring to a nascent tom cat as if female. I like to get familiar with the cat before I try to name it - I once had one named Maggie May because of her habit of rolling onto her back when I walked by. Just don't pick a name you'd be embarrassed to call out in the neighbourhood at 3:00am. #94 - Posted by: aelfheld on January 5, 2005 08:53 PMShank #95 - Posted by: Just Passing Through on January 5, 2005 08:54 PMHmmm... A good name for a stray female cat? How about pregnant? Anty #96 - Posted by: Anty on January 5, 2005 08:57 PMHowasabout naming him Hondo? Or maybe Shane? And for the caption:"That's right, just a little closer to the grassy knoll..." #97 - Posted by: Moe on January 5, 2005 08:57 PMI have a cat nemaed Two-Stroke, and it has fully earned that name with it's crazy spurts of energy and it's strange purr. Other cat names I seriously considered and may use someday are: Seven (just Seven... I like it for some reason) But I do like Condi. She strikes me as smooth and classy, yet able to suddenly strike and kill with skilled precision... perfect for a cat. #98 - Posted by: siklilpig on January 5, 2005 09:07 PMMoriarty-- You would think cats view us as staff, but Red Dwarf puts forward the theory that cats view us as Gods. It really makes more sense than the whole staff thing: I knew someone who had a cat called "Cooter." No joke. #99 - Posted by: Flakbait on January 5, 2005 09:48 PMAlthough its a male name, 'Gaston' is kinda cool--as in Gaston Glock. I also like the sound of "Double Tap" the cat... But as I see it, your cat's name is "Condi". #100 - Posted by: azlibertarian on January 5, 2005 09:52 PMHow about being more diverse in your name choices. Why not name it Allahu Akbar. This way if you lost it in the crowd, say if the President is visiting, you could run through yelling, 'Allahu Akbar'. #101 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on January 5, 2005 10:06 PMSniper ... Sniper the Cat Chomps and Sniper ... The New Dynamic Duo! http://www.members.shaw.ca/kcic1/felix.html Don't name the cat Lillie or Melonie unless you plan on having "Raynor" a while. Of our last two cats, Lillie lived 30 years and Melonie lasted 32 years. #103 - Posted by: Tyler on January 5, 2005 10:33 PMOH... Or as Angela posted "Velcro". #104 - Posted by: Tyler on January 5, 2005 10:37 PMLiberal Then every time the cat bites you, you can always say, "Oh Liberal, biting the hand that feeds you". And yes, most cats bite. While cat lovers call it "kissing," most reasonable people call it eating. #105 - Posted by: John on January 5, 2005 10:37 PMhow about Scandal? or, since she's gray, Misti #106 - Posted by: Aris_Ravencroft on January 5, 2005 10:37 PMJust thought of another one. Puppy...that way you can still have a puppy. Besides it will improve the cat's self image #108 - Posted by: tommy on January 5, 2005 10:45 PMMy husband hated cats until one adopted us about 15 years ago. Our home has never been cat-less since. I say you name her "Quat" then you can yell "kumquat!" when it's feeding time. Congratulations on the start of a wonderful relationship! :) #110 - Posted by: jonag on January 5, 2005 10:53 PMThere's some good ones here, SaraK beat me to Sydney. Cordite, and Condi- Marvelous! My male is named Periscope, imagine telling him to get off the counter: You people kill me:) As the cat is cadet grey, you could name it "Fed", short for Confederacy after the fighting rooster talked about in Sam Watkins famous book, "Co. Aytch." THAT would piss of a lot of people for all of the right reasons. Condi rocks. Simba is okay. Claude is cool for obvious reasons, but people might start calling YOU Rosie, Frank. How about Free Beer? Not everyone likes cats, but everyone likes Free Beer! Ripley! #113 - Posted by: Sean on January 5, 2005 11:04 PMJonag, you crack me up. #114 - Posted by: LC Trucido on January 5, 2005 11:23 PMCall the hairball "Angel Eyes". Then all you'll need is your dog "Tuco" and something light colored to call "Blondie". You'll have the whole set. #115 - Posted by: suboptimal on January 5, 2005 11:37 PMNinja. You can never trust a cat. I had some suggestions above, but I like 'Sniper' too. 'Fish' would be a funny name. "That's my cat, Fish. Anyway, saw this pick earlier tonight. If this is your cat, then 'Sniper' it is. http://www.killsometime.com/Pics/Funny/images/Kitty-Sniper.jpg #118 - Posted by: Wyatt on January 6, 2005 12:18 AMLord High Executioner Skreechy Fluffball the Well Armed and Dangerous Wandering Ninja Smashing Kitty Kat. I hope that she has a good place to sleep. Moneybagzz Out OK, I'm an idiot. And since I can't go back and edit my comment... I never did click on the original pic until a minute ago. Found the one I posted in some wierd coincidence. #120 - Posted by: Wyatt on January 6, 2005 12:22 AMI had a similar dilemma when an orphaned grey kitten showed up on my doorstep about 1 year ago. I named her Athena (greek goddess of military victory, among other things) and I believe that naming the kitty after a Greek God/Goddess is the proper way to maintain masculinity in such a situation. It helps if the God was a war-mongerer, or if the name sounds particularly militaristic. Also, while greek is preferable, other gods may be sufficiently masculine (ie Thor.) #121 - Posted by: G on January 6, 2005 12:34 AMFrankJ adopts a cat?! Hmmm... "whipped" comes to mind. ;) #122 - Posted by: Rubber(Red)neck on January 6, 2005 12:35 AMChairman Meow #123 - Posted by: Orange County on January 6, 2005 12:37 AMName it Bea Arthur. I had a female kitten for a time....absolutely fearless. Would stalk dobermans with obvious intent to maul. Named her "Fricka", one of the various spellings of the wife of Odin and a real "battle axe" in her own right. I nominate that, just roll it off the tongue...Here Fricka, Fricka, Fricka... Scarab #126 - Posted by: Scarab on January 6, 2005 01:28 AMStick with Samus. I say trust your first instincts and be PROUD of your geek chic. Sure, most cats kill rodents and birds...but how many bear the name of a killer of aliens who has saved the human race? #128 - Posted by: Jon on January 6, 2005 03:06 AM"Scratch" or "Scratchy" Instead of using it's claws to kill insurgents (it was declawed by well meaning apartment dwelling liberals)it uses a rifle to "Scratch" insurgents off the face of the planet. #131 - Posted by: BarnacleRubicle on January 6, 2005 05:48 AMBitch Kitty, Megan, Lucky. Nothing beats "Cat-O". Whenever you need to name an animal, just add O to it. On the other hand, put me down for "Slayer". Dang I miss Buffy. #133 - Posted by: Exile on January 6, 2005 07:30 AMJoansie, or more properly, Jonesy. Somebody stole my original thought: Ripley. Josie is a semigeek one as well. You'll need two more cats to complete the set if you choose that name, though. #134 - Posted by: Sue Dohnim on January 6, 2005 08:34 AMA cat? A CAT?!?!? How about... "My missing testicles" "Steal my lunch money" "Metrosexual here." What about Toonces? You can teach her to drive. #136 - Posted by: Joe Mama on January 6, 2005 08:36 AMI had a friend who had a tomcat named "Spot." It was hilarious to here him call "Here Spot!" and this cat would walk into the room. #137 - Posted by: Undercover Hippie on January 6, 2005 08:37 AM"Trinity" (atmospheric A-bomb tests in the '50's and a kick-ass, take-no-crap broad from the Matrix) #139 - Posted by: macbeau on January 6, 2005 08:49 AMHippie, I didn't know you were friends with Data. Holy crap Frank, this thread is doing better than "Headlines"! You've outdone yourself! #142 - Posted by: Army NCO Guy on January 6, 2005 09:29 AMI always thought Reagan and Thatcher would be good names for two dogs - chocolate labs or something. Condi is pretty much perfect for a cat tho. And RWD's suggestion 'Allahu Akbar' made me crack up at work. Imagine at 11pm when the cat runs past your feet and your neighbors hear you shouting that into the night in a murderous rage. #143 - Posted by: Andy on January 6, 2005 09:34 AMSushi - good for either sex, and funny. Oh, the cat in Pet Sematary's name was Church, after Winston Churchill. #144 - Posted by: Ethne on January 6, 2005 09:38 AMI had a cat that was forever wandering around behind my computer, so I named him Five. And for several happy months, he was the Cat Five behind my computer. Is that geeky enough? :) I vote for Fluffy the Liberal Slayer. #145 - Posted by: Darkmage on January 6, 2005 09:42 AMName her Mephistopheles. Call her Fisty for short. #146 - Posted by: Jack Harris on January 6, 2005 09:57 AMWhat the vast majority of cats should be named: "Worthless." Sorry. I'm not much on cats. Whoever said "Target" is a comic genius. I laughed so hard I cried. #147 - Posted by: Dubya on January 6, 2005 10:06 AM'Sniper' makes sense. And it's accurate as far as kittens are concerned. 'Chomps' would rock though and be my first choice... #148 - Posted by: Clancy on January 6, 2005 10:18 AMSchrodinger, Trinity and Galore all get my vote too... #149 - Posted by: Clancy on January 6, 2005 10:20 AMToo bad it's not yellow, then you could name it Blondie (Tuco's "friend"). Angel Eyes? #150 - Posted by: Poster with no name on January 6, 2005 10:33 AMLunchbox. Charles. #151 - Posted by: Charles on January 6, 2005 10:38 AMI'm in favor of simple things: name her "Cat." I once had a male cat named "Dog" and a goldfish named "Cat". Never had a dog named "Fish" tho. #152 - Posted by: Tracey on January 6, 2005 11:08 AMsarok #153 - Posted by: gibsonrlz on January 6, 2005 11:18 AMHow about Useless Bag of Fur? With a name like Useless Bag of Fur, it has to be good. #154 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on January 6, 2005 11:36 AMYou could borrow from Florence King and name her Quadrupet. #156 - Posted by: aelfheld on January 6, 2005 11:37 AMCareful Frank, we don't want to be reading a news article about you being a cat hoarder someday.... Next thing you know, one cat turns to 2, 3.....and then we see you arrested for animal cruelty, because you're a shut-in, with 500 cats! #157 - Posted by: Tetzman on January 6, 2005 11:51 AMName it Dammit. As in: "Get off the couch, Dammit!" #158 - Posted by: coop on January 6, 2005 11:56 AMHow 'bout AK-47? #159 - Posted by: Traveler on January 6, 2005 12:09 PMStay with Samus. Because you'll never know when you have to deal with Space Pirates or those pesky Ing. ;) #160 - Posted by: ZK on January 6, 2005 12:12 PMHow 'bout an indian name like "Craps in a box" or "Tastes like chicken" Remember, there room for all of Gods creatures... right next to the potatos and peas. #161 - Posted by: macbeau on January 6, 2005 12:24 PMShoot, there's a lot here already. Has anyone suggested: KenN., Sassy :P #164 - Posted by: Leslie on January 6, 2005 01:05 PMmacbeau's "Indian names" idea is a good one. That's how my parents named me.... #165 - Posted by: Raining Too Hard To Go To the Drugstore on January 6, 2005 01:21 PMMephisto is an AWESOME name. Although it is the brother of Diablo, it is feminine sounding, with a hint of toughness! #166 - Posted by: Elvenbane on January 6, 2005 01:30 PMMy brother has a cat (female) named Slim. Go figure. I think it's pretty cool. #167 - Posted by: Marc on January 6, 2005 01:43 PMname it "sly", or just "hello kitty", or even "pickleweasel". #168 - Posted by: mojo9 on January 6, 2005 01:56 PMFrank, Don't listen to anyone else. You have to wait until you know the cat and the cat lets you know its name. #169 - Posted by: Marilyn P on January 6, 2005 01:57 PMWe had a cat that looked just like that one.We named it Neko-chun. *that's 'cat' in Japanese..I didn't say we were real original. #170 - Posted by: on January 6, 2005 01:59 PM"HAHAHA. Kittens give Morvo gas." Name her "Delicious." If on the other hand you want an ancient heroine name, try "Agripina." (Ag-rih-PEEN-ah.) #171 - Posted by: Beo on January 6, 2005 02:00 PMMy brother's cat was named Roadkill. It looked just like roadkill too. It would lay on the sidewalk in front of his house looking all dead and mangy and he would yell "Hey Roadkill!" and it would lift it's head to see if it was dinnertime. Made people stop and stare. #172 - Posted by: Lily on January 6, 2005 02:10 PM Wow, this is the most comments I've seen on one post in quite a while. #174 - Posted by: LC Trucido on January 6, 2005 02:51 PMRavage. Or, since it's a girl, Ravagette. Samus or Zelda would be cool. #176 - Posted by: Joey on January 6, 2005 04:04 PMFreya after the Norse goddess of war. Her chariot was drawn by male cats. #177 - Posted by: Matt on January 6, 2005 04:08 PMBruiser. #178 - Posted by: asm on January 6, 2005 04:32 PMSpeedbump. #179 - Posted by: Catracks on January 6, 2005 04:45 PMIt is my understanding that Ayn is pronounced so that it rhymes with Feinnstein. Name the cat Rammstein! #180 - Posted by: Gullyborg on January 6, 2005 04:50 PMVera Like Jayne's gun on Firefly (sorry if someone already recommended it, I haven't gone through all the suggestions yet. #181 - Posted by: Chris D on January 6, 2005 04:54 PMPandora #182 - Posted by: Kathleen Anglin on January 6, 2005 05:30 PMPrincess Polly Ponderosa Penelope Peachfuzz #183 - Posted by: on January 6, 2005 06:49 PMRonni, after Ronnie Reagan, chief commie hippie basher of the US. Or Roni (feminine singular of Ronin?). Or Master Chief, master slayer of foreigners, especially those little monkey-looking ones. Or Pookie. #184 - Posted by: Waffle King on January 6, 2005 07:12 PMI like RightWingDuck's names I hate to say it, but what about Tsunami? Maybe better to suggest Tooncinator, the Ahnold version of Mr. Toonces. #186 - Posted by: Waffle King on January 6, 2005 09:00 PMHow about a Navy flying school acronym? NAFOD ("nay-fod"), meaning "no apparent fear of death." Or, O-shinko (Japanese for pickle). #187 - Posted by: Romeocat on January 6, 2005 09:07 PMIF that's the actual picture of the kitty, I say Lee Harvey would be a great name. Or Leigh Harvee if it's a girl kitty. #188 - Posted by: Julie on January 6, 2005 09:38 PM I always thought that a good name for a female cat would be Eartha. mrreouwww...! #189 - Posted by: Tuning Spork on January 6, 2005 10:14 PMCeefa. As in Ceefa Cat. That, or I vote for Samus, Velcro or Lady J #190 - Posted by: attila on January 6, 2005 10:47 PMYou should name it a really girly name. That way it will learn to compensate for its powderpuff name by lifting weights and studying karate to kick the @$$ of all the cats that make fun of its name. #191 - Posted by: The Quiet Domino on January 7, 2005 12:06 AMI've got the best of gun names and a play on words. -- "Mauser" IT WORKS, DO IT! As a cat staff member, I command you! #192 - Posted by: Adam (VRWC Member) on January 7, 2005 01:51 PMOr name it "Ayn" or "Ein", they're both pronounced the same. Or even "Kleinnes Ein" (sorry my German is poor, someone please correct it if that is spelled wrong) though this would be obsolete once the cat grows, unless it stays small. #193 - Posted by: Adam (VRWC Member) on January 7, 2005 01:58 PMI vote for "Ripley" -- cats can be such cute, furry aliens sometimes. #194 - Posted by: ELSprime on January 7, 2005 03:23 PMClaude (de Furniture) #195 - Posted by: southpaw on January 7, 2005 05:11 PMI think panter... If you name it "Catapult", I promise to build and ship the appropriate item.... #197 - Posted by: Jack in TX on January 7, 2005 05:36 PM...and since SarahK now owns you, a "cat-a-chute" and/or "cat-a-crashpad" if you need them to continue domestic harmony. #198 - Posted by: Jack in TX on January 7, 2005 05:45 PMI like the Alias theme names, but how about going old school Bond? SMERSH or SPECTRE would be an interesting name for a cat. Me? I named mine "Bob", but it's supposed to be short for Bank One Ballpark. If you want a name that fits with "Tuco", maybe you could call the cat "Arch Stanton"? #199 - Posted by: Russ in Iowa on January 7, 2005 06:55 PMDoris. She might grow into the name. #200 - Posted by: NuclearTinkerbell on January 10, 2005 06:57 PMHow about the name - Name her "Bobcat" and call her Bob for short. #202 - Posted by: LokiDoki on January 11, 2005 12:04 AMName her "Bobcat" and call her Bob for short. #203 - Posted by: LokiDoki on January 11, 2005 12:05 AM Post a comment
