A Question of Taste
Posted by Frank J. at 09:04 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (43)

So, should we keep doing the hitler thing? The idea I took from RightWingDuck that the liberals had been using the phrase so much ("Bush is like Hitler." and "FOX News is like Hitler") that we might as well take it to its full ridiculousness by using hitler as a catchphrase.

Well, discuss amongst yourselves (well, in the comments).

In a word, no.

#1 - Posted by: aelfheld on February 2, 2005 09:07 PM

I agree, sadly.

Unlike the liberals, we really do understand the impact of what the man did.

Even though its a joke, the name still gives one a lousy feeling.

Pol Pot. Now THAT's funny!

ACtually, no. Not even.

#2 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on February 2, 2005 09:11 PM

Agreed. It's just too weird.

#3 - Posted by: Tuning Spork on February 2, 2005 09:15 PM

I kinda liked it. I'm sure it pisses liberals off like crazy and I am fully aware of the evil that the man fostered.

#4 - Posted by: noisy ghost on February 2, 2005 09:18 PM

I have to say no, too. The man was just too evil to ever become a joke.
That's not to say that we can't make jokes out of other german despots. Hehe: Bismark

#5 - Posted by: bertram on February 2, 2005 09:18 PM

I think it's funny, but if we have to stop using it we should find an opposite, like...

"Dude, that rotten egg smells so Chirac!"
or
"I don't agree with your idiotic and Chirac-ian idea"

any takers?

#6 - Posted by: Chaser892 on February 2, 2005 09:23 PM

the Hitler thing has to stop!

first you drag God into the mud with the whole fake Bible thing, now your trying to elivate evil to a household word?

(mostly :) )

#7 - Posted by: Futility on February 2, 2005 09:28 PM

FrankJ-I am a geezer and enjoy dropping by this site for a laugh and hearing younger folks banter back and forth. Your 2nd commenter had it right. left loonies do not understand what he was. We do. He was a monster who murdered mommies and babies. Saying his name is like conjuring up a demon.

#8 - Posted by: ridgerunner on February 2, 2005 09:29 PM

I say it was funny for a while, playing on the lefts insaity, but I say its time to let it go.

#9 - Posted by: UZI4U (aka MurdockTheCrazy) on February 2, 2005 09:41 PM

I guess I've got to agree as well. RWD has it right- it feels kinda strange using it in everyday conversation. It does, however, get attention at work. "Wow, that report is totally hitler!"
Nah.

#10 - Posted by: berserker on February 2, 2005 09:48 PM

Ya, keep it going! It's hilarious using the Hitler analogy against the libs.

#11 - Posted by: Eric on February 2, 2005 09:49 PM

It is Horrible Inappropriate To Laugh, Even Reluctantly.

But I do.

#12 - Posted by: basil on February 2, 2005 10:02 PM

OFF TOPIC- Frank: *plagiarism alert* Have you seen Jonah G's column in the new NR? The subject is that the 72 virgins are actually GRAPES! Sounds alot like your IMW post awhile ago about the 72 raisins! Coincidence? I think not.

#13 - Posted by: doubletrouble on February 2, 2005 10:03 PM

Reluctantly, I must agree as well. Hitler is in no way hitler.

#14 - Posted by: T.E.C. on February 2, 2005 10:14 PM

Perhaps we should put "Hitler" to bed, like we should "bling" (if we haven't already)

Though we should pull it out again whenever someone else asininely compares something to Hitler. Kind of like a special appearance.

That would be so [s]Hitler[/s] or... well, it would work.

#15 - Posted by: Mitsurugi Babaganoosh on February 2, 2005 10:19 PM

Then it's agreed.

hey, let's just start a new trend.

Wearing your underwear OUTSIDE of your pants.

That would be - coool

#16 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on February 2, 2005 10:20 PM

Sounds like those who care thinks we should wear our underwear outside our pants instead of using "hitler" as a catchphrase.

So let if be written, so let it be done.

#17 - Posted by: Frank J. on February 2, 2005 10:24 PM

Boxers or briefs?

#18 - Posted by: basil on February 2, 2005 10:29 PM

Hey, all you naysayers go away! I like the "it's so hitler" fad, and only Frank has the blogo-popularity to transform it into popular slang!

It's even got kind of an intrinsic connotation to it. You know...
hitler == happenin'
stalin == rockin'
marx == hurts

Personally, I don't think it's something to get worked up about. What about when Frank has Rummy strangle reporters? Obviously, if that really happened, it would be a very horrible evil thing. But you're not supposed to consider the realistic implications--it's just passing humor. And the whole reason the 'hitler' thing is so funny is precisely because it's not a word you would at all expect to see used in that context.

Besides, isn't it closer to an act of 'reverance' to not use the word in vanity?

#19 - Posted by: sackofcatfood on February 2, 2005 10:31 PM

Can we still refer to our errands of running weapons to the Khmer Rouge as Kerrying? I mean, I need SOME shorthand.

#20 - Posted by: Mitsurugi Babaganoosh on February 2, 2005 10:36 PM

I think Hitler was funny for the first few days, but now it is getting creepy. And it's now reaching the point where it has to be explained... which is the death of any good joke.
Which also explains most of John Kerry's campaign.

#21 - Posted by: SCSIwuzzy on February 2, 2005 10:51 PM

I personally dont mind the hitler thing, but at the same time I like to respect the wishes of others if they are rational wishes and not mindless drivel. It seems that most of the people above seem to dislike it, so its probably better to give it up rather than keep on irritating people. Maybe since W is sooooo cool, in honor of him cool things could be called 'bush' or 'dubya'.

E.g. "Saying Nookular is so bush" or "Killing terrorists is the dubya thing to do"

Conversely we could have things like "Incessantly referring to Vietnam when talking about the WOT is so kerry" or "Everyone here says theyre against using 'hitler' as an adjective, but we should recount their responses to be sure. That would be like, totally gore!"

#22 - Posted by: humanoverlord on February 2, 2005 11:07 PM

I think we should keep going with it, its so hitler.

#23 - Posted by: Mark on February 2, 2005 11:09 PM

Ok, if you guys all stop, can I start using it? I figure this would an oh so hitler way to get more traffic on my site.

I think, if the purpose is to confuse the lefties, we should start use their heroes. For instance, we could say "that is so Che!" or "that would be real Ho Chi Minh if we won the lotto!" and "That new skateboard is totally Lenin!"

#24 - Posted by: Pluto's Dad on February 2, 2005 11:20 PM

sackofcatfood, I'm sorry, but I fail to see the evil in Rummy strangling reporters. If it's so bad, why do I giggle with glee everytime I read about it??
The hitler thing was totally hitler for a few day but it's time to come up with something new.
Now I shall go type in my special number so I can post......

#25 - Posted by: jonag on February 2, 2005 11:53 PM

NO! Who cares how the name is used, when you are responsible for the death of hundreds of millions of people the name should not be used in anything other than the context of history. However, the moonbats have free reign to be as big Asses of them selves as they want. So Ted Kennedy them!

#26 - Posted by: Tyler on February 3, 2005 12:10 AM

It wasn't bad as a quick joke, but it's not something that should be permanent, mostly because every person who comes to the website will start running in fear at the fact that everyone here seems to worship the third-most-evil guy in history. Let it die.

#27 - Posted by: Alsadius on February 3, 2005 12:21 AM

I don't like it, personally. The original joke was funny, but...the man was just so pure evil even reading his name gives me chills.

Rummy strangling reporters isn't evil. To my knowledge, he's never actually strangled any, so it's okay. If he ever does..well...then we'll know he reads IMAO.

#28 - Posted by: Jen on February 3, 2005 01:51 AM

It had its run, let it go out with a bang. Have HFL try to use it and get beat up for the effort.

#29 - Posted by: McWert Deglieb on February 3, 2005 02:09 AM

Eh, I don't think anyone on the right should really promote somebody like Hitler in that way (even though it is funny). Maybe switch it with something positive, like Reagan? "Bush is like Reagan" "Drugs are totally un-Reagan"

I dunno, but to show that you're better than the left for realizing what he did, stopping the "Hitler/un-Hitler" would probably be a good idea

#30 - Posted by: Tony on February 3, 2005 02:37 AM

Hitler is NOT funny, but dead!
Stalin is NOT funny, but dead!
Pol Pot is NOT funny, but dead!
Mao Tse Tung is NOT funny, but dead!
Yasser Arafat is kinda funny and dead!
Idi Amin is hilarious and dead!
Fidel Castro is funny, but not dead!
Saddam Hussein is neither funny nor dead!

Take your pick. Personally I'd take a captive GI Joe doll over any of them.

#31 - Posted by: Viking on February 3, 2005 04:20 AM

I think the hitler thing should end.

I don't usually post here, but I read on a regular basis...and I do worry that people who come here might not understand...and the fact that really this website is completely non-racist would become burried by the reputation as "that site where they think Hitler is cool".

So in short, I'm against continuing with the hitler thing. It's totally un-Franco :).

#32 - Posted by: Ard Ri on February 3, 2005 04:46 AM

Have we had a Know thy Enemy: Hitler, yet?

#33 - Posted by: General Von Klinkerhoffen on February 3, 2005 06:27 AM

"Chirac" would be a good replacement - that name reeks like cheese-eating surrender monkey pate under glass.

#34 - Posted by: hatless in hattiesburg on February 3, 2005 06:35 AM

Thank you Frank.

#35 - Posted by: shaulie on February 3, 2005 07:46 AM

I have to agree that the 'hitler' tag should stop. However I still would like to keep showing how off target the left is. Therefore I propose that everytime a leftist screams "Hitler" or "Facism" or laments the "Loss of Free Speech" that we immediately point out a recent leftist action and associate it with the appropriate slur. This will not only show the correct meaning of the slurs but also show how its actually leftists and liberals who are the "Hitlers"

Example:
When a moonbat decries the loss of Free Speech someone point out how universites do not let conservative students speak out and have established "Free Speech" zones on camput.

When a tree-hugger screams "Fascism" point out that it was leftist college students that stole and destroyed convervative college newspapers and that it was college administrators that banned others.

etc....

#36 - Posted by: FormerHostage on February 3, 2005 08:44 AM

Drop the hitler. It's too apt to be misunderstood and anyway, the English language has been degraded enough. Let the word hitler stand for the evil of the man.

Likewise, I see nothing wrong with referring to ideas that are (a) bad and (b) outdated and (c) rejected by thinking persons as DNC.

"Supporting dictators is soooo DNC. Get with the 21st century, would ya?"

"You should see the sweater my aunt sent me for Christmas! She means well, but her taste is so DNC!"

#37 - Posted by: Persnickety on February 3, 2005 08:51 AM

i agree with the lose the "hitler" thing crowd. sorry. I think it rusts up your edge rather than adds to it.

-now commence with the dadgum funny

#38 - Posted by: gibsonrlz on February 3, 2005 09:15 AM

Let it go.

Thank you Frank.

#39 - Posted by: MargeinMI on February 3, 2005 09:17 AM

Keep the hitler. It raised my eyebrow at first, but now it shows how foolish the Democraps really are.

#40 - Posted by: Jack Harris on February 3, 2005 09:35 AM

This idea is like so... hitler

#41 - Posted by: Yogi on February 4, 2005 07:44 AM

Lose it.
lets use positive thinking, and use "Dubya" for good things, like HumanOverlord suggested.

#42 - Posted by: Lurking Death-rabbit on February 4, 2005 08:08 AM

Huh... let it go, I guess. Keeping it too long would be so un-Chirac.
