I noticed a debate in the comments of the post I did of a Ratzinger quote (it's from before he became pope). I thought I'd throw this in the mix. It's a trace of the human genome starting in Africa until it reaches all continents (except Antarctica) around 10,000 or so years before present day (the day we all get presents!).

Anyhoo, in the 60,000-55,000 B.C. section under "Era Overview" it says:

The tree of human genetic diversity has, at its root, "Adam" - the common male ancestor of every living man. Because he lived in Africa some 60,000 years ago, all humans must have lived there until at least that time.

Unlike his Biblical namesake, this Adam was not the only man alive in his era. Rather, he is unique because his descendants are the only ones to survive to the present day.

Now, if you're going to use Biblical terms, isn't that actually Noah going by that description?

Also, question for those who know: Isn't the Y chromosome passed unchanged from father to son, and the only reason it would ever be different is from random mutation?

UPDATE: Nevermind. Found I was right here. Mitochondrial DNA is also passed unchanged (except by mutation) from the mother to her children.

I think Noah only goes back 4000-5000 years.

Good golly Frank. Funny?

Your engineering degree has taken over your brain again.

Go out and pop off 35 rounds of .45 ACP FMJ's and get back to funny.

Mutation = sterility (almost invariably.)

Can't pass mutated genes.

#3 - Posted by: Beo on April 20, 2005 09:57 AM

Beo,
It's more of a transcription error. One C becoming a T doesn't affect anything in most cases.

Well, golly! They just answered that question of what civilization Kain went to after he was exiled.

I don’t think the engineering degree is the problem. Sarah must have told him that the theory of evolution is blasphemous.

#6 - Posted by: Biff on April 20, 2005 10:02 AM

As far as I know, the Catholic Church deems the theory of evolution acceptable. For the human body, that is; the soul is not included.

#7 - Posted by: Marzo on April 20, 2005 10:13 AM

Most mutations are fatal, a good number will be sterile, at least I hope M. Moore is.
I understand he is still shocked that the Cardinals elected a Catholic to be Pope.
I was going to put down the various explanations for Genesis that I was taught in my "Survey of the Old Testament" class but thank the Lord I can't find my notes.

Check reasons.org for a good breakdown of the Y Chromosone/M DNA thing. Reveals some interesting proof for the great flood. Also, I think evolution in general is a reasonable theory, but macro evolution (everything evolving from micro-organisms) and hominid evolution (humans from ape-like creatures) are completely bogus, and most of the research and fossil evidence backs me up on that. Again, check reasons.org.

Because he lived in Africa some 60,000 years ago, all humans must have lived there until at least that time.

That's obviously not true. Other humans of the era could have gone elsewhere and later died out.

I have been researching this stuff for a while and i came across a book called the secrets of ancient man. and i believe i came to the conclusion that if there is any evolution it would be that we have de-evolved, if that is a word, and are just now getting somewhat close to what people were like 10,000 years ago.

a cool site for dna stuff is oxford ancestors. They'll run you dna sample and test you against known samples. It's way cool for the women.

"Mitochondrial DNA is also passed unchanged (except by mutation) from the mother to her children."

However, the child can only achieve his potential with proper training from a Jedi Knight.

Now, if you're going to use Biblical terms, isn't that actually Noah going by that description?

Noah was the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson of Adam

Biblical Lineage from Jesus to David to Noah to Adam

You can see that Adam and his descendents liked producing babies...

"Unlike his Biblical namesake, this Adam was not the only man alive in his era. Rather, he is unique because his descendants are the only ones to survive to the present day"

This could be Noah, and evidence of a flood. Noah and his family were the only remaining conservatives on earth. And God found favor in Noah, and told him to build an ark. He told Noah that all filthy hippies and liberals of the sort along with all the creatures of the land and air would be destroyed by a great flood.

And it came to pass that the flood waters rose, and then subsided. Afterward all that remained were the family of Noah, the animals that were on the ark, and the creatures of the sea.

Of the sea creatures that remained was the giant, truth-eating corpuscle, mikscinius-mooreupyorsius. This giant blob of a species latched onto the belly of the ark, and made it's way to dry land. From there it has evolved over millions of years into monkeys, and eventually into todays modern liberal.(which by the way is a much nastier form than the afore mentioned one)

This is how we can see the truth in how some people don't believe that they came from monkeys and some do!

Maybe this is why Frank hates monkeys so much

yes we should be refered to as children of Noah, unless we aren't. personally i always wondered if the antidelluvians managed to survive the flood, you know the god kings of ancient summeria that reigned for 10's of thousands of years and such that are mentioned as the parents of gilgamesh. i'm still not convinced that noah was the only ancestor that survived. he gets a so so rap from the babylonians for selling his entire city short, but did get immortality as a side affect. you should read "gilgamesh" its short and i think you would get a kick out of it.

#16 - Posted by: tim on April 20, 2005 04:26 PM

the flood didn't wipe out all humans, only the descendants of Adam (except for the Noah clan).

Adam wasn't the ONLY human when he was created, he was the IDEAL human made in God's image. When Adam and Eve left the Garden and had kids, their kids met and married other humans not born of Adam and Eve. Just as Noah's family, after landing on Mt Ararat, met and intermarried with other humans.

#17 - Posted by: Gullyborg on April 20, 2005 04:31 PM

Tim, and Gullyborg,

If you think that there were others left after the flood, [which by the way contradicts what the bible says(and if you don't believe what the bible says why would you believe in the flood)], then why did God have Noah spend 100 years building the ark? He could of told Noah to pack his bags and move, perhaps to Mt Ararat Which is where he ended up afterwards. Or do you believe God has us dig holes and move them around for giggles?

#18 - Posted by: on April 20, 2005 05:01 PM

//quote" "Adam wasn't the ONLY human when he was created, he was the IDEAL human made in God's image. Huh? What in the world? What was the ideal human? Aryan? Why did God let his ideal interbreed with non-ideals? Why is Eve named Eve? (Mother of all living?)
