Gotta Gitmo Respect
Amnesty International, apparently not finding any innocent people being oppressed worth complaining about, called the terrorist holding facility at Guantanamo Bay a "gulag." This angered both Cheney and Rumsfeld who met with Amnesty International personally to express their disagreement. There were no survivors. Though both Guantanamo and gulag start with a 'g', there are in fact numerous differences between the Soviet prison camps and our detention of terrorists. Actually, there are apparently ten differences, so... THE TOP TEN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN GITMO AND A GULAG 10. Beatings at Gitmo are done as felt necessary, instead of following strict Soviet beating schedule. 9. Fancy new Korans for all Gitmo detainees, while nearly no free Korans under Stalin. 8. Gulag inmates were exploited to help the Soviet economy, while we can't even get wallets out of Gitmo detainees. 7. Gulag's had a high fatality rate, while Gitmo detainees don't die until we're done with them. 6. Sibera was not a hot spot for Canadian tourists. 5. Gitmo detainees are allowed to pray towards Mecca five times a day, while Gulag inmates were forced to bow down towards Stalin's mustache five times a day. 4. Many people were placed in gulag's simply for their political views, while many were put in Gitmo because they wouldn't stop shooting at us, gosh darnit. 3. Gulag is an abbreviation for Russian for "The Chief Directorate of Corrective Labor Camps" while Guantanamo is simply Spanish for "hell-hole." 2. While neither the inmates of the gulag or the Gitmo detainees bathe, the Gitmo detainees do have the option. And the number one difference between Gitmo and a gulag... We're pretty sure all the people at Gitmo deserve it. 16 Responses To "Gotta Gitmo Respect"
hmmm, I wondered what the spanish translation for Guantanamo was. Actually, Guantanamo means shit-hole in Spanish, not hell-hole. Derived from guano. Like most of the detainees, come to think of it. #3 - Posted by: Kathy Hutchins on June 2, 2005 01:54 PMI Carl G. Mueller place the Curse of Justice upon the soles of pedophile Priests and those living and dead who protect(ed) them, like CA, Cardinal Mahony and Pope John Paul II. I place the Curse of Justice upon America’s Political Evil doers, like House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner Jr. (R, WI). I place the Curse of Justice upon, soon to be replaced, John P. Puerner, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the LA Times. Puerner allowed the unfair treatment of author and investigative reporter Gary Webb. Webb committed suicide (or possibly killed by the CIA) and the Times wrote a indefensible obituary on 12/12/04 and overly cunning story on March 16, 2005, Calendar section, in which the LA Times refer to Webb’s book as “the 2-inch-thick-tome”. Excellent, Frank! 11. Gulags were run by Godless, dirty commies, while Gitmo is run by friendly, happy, cordial, God-fearing Amurcans! Yee-haw!!!! #5 - Posted by: jimmyb on June 2, 2005 02:22 PM12. Carl Mueller would have been swept away to a Soviet gulag before he even pressed the POST button, whereas Gitmo exists to protect his sorry ass. #6 - Posted by: Plea Deal on June 2, 2005 03:41 PMhttp://antiwar.com/roberts/

I'm entirely sick of hearing about the "horrors" of Gitmo. None of this would be reported under any other administration it would be understood for what it is, inappropriate behavior by soldiers during wartime. Their actions shouldn't be highlighted by the world as some incredible injustice to humanity as if ripping paper makes you Pol Pot. There is no government scandal, this isn't a war crime. This is NOT abuse. Since when is kicking, splashing pee, or spilling water on inanimate objects abuse? If we were hanging prisoners upside down and beating the soles of their feet until they passed out we would only then be mildly approaching the conditions under which these detainees would face if they were being held by their fellow countrymen. Unless you feel that Sinead O'Conner should have been brought up on charges for ripping up a picture of the Pope, you are only pretending to be upset over the desecration of the Koran. For those who embraced "Piss Christ" to be morally outraged by Gitmo is nothing but simple politically motivated hypocrisy. It's a scary thing that we are giving such credence to their concerns of offense. Are we far off from Italy or France where your book will be banned if it offends Muslims? Will Islam usher in the fascist state some feared the "Neocons" would? #14 - Posted by: Ainsley on June 6, 2005 03:33 PMI happened to be watching the Patriot Act hearing on C-SPAN yesterday (June 10, 2005) when Sensenbrenner blustered, banged the gavel without a motion for adjournment, stormed out, and cut the microphones. (Video of the incident can be found on many sites around the Web.) I was awestruck at the irony of the situation. Here is a man who, rankled at Amnesty International's characterization of Guantanamo as a "gulag," immediately resorted to the Soviet tactic of turning off the microphones of speakers with whom he disagreed! By doing so, he lent credibility to Amnesty International's arguments and presented a chilling picture of the US as a country now subject to tyrannical, one party rule. (And, under the provisions of the Patriot Act, one that can silence dissent in secret.) I am not a fan of either political party, and am especially alarmed when it appears that one of them is becoming so powerful that it can quell not only dissent but intelligent discussions of views with which it disagrees. We simply have to do something, folks. #15 - Posted by: Concerned about the future of democracy in the US on June 11, 2005 01:03 PMVisit my cafepress "I Heart Gitmo" shop and wear your support for our troops at Guantanamo Bay.
