Strike Me Down and I Will Become More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine
Posted by Frank J. at 10:15 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (18)

We need constructive criticism to keep improving the IMAO podcast, so definitely tell us what you didn't like of the third one. Also, if you like it at all, I'd appreciate if you vote for us so we can keep some movement in the podcast community.

BTW, still just a little time left to enter the contest for this week and win a t-shirt.

A Hate-Filled Lefty comic is ready for posting and will be up a little later today.

Hooray!
Comics! HFL comics rule!

I loved the 3rd podcast.
It was tighter, better music, snappier (and I don't mean snappier in a gay way, either).

One thing.
More SarahK.

One more time...

First!

(Yeah, it's been a while. The correct post, too!)

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the thrid podcast as much as the previous ones. One was the lack of a lack of Frank Topic (in the next podcast, a subject could be something about celebrities getting away with things, like first OJ, then Blake, now Jackson (although, while I think he is FrEaKy, I do not think that he is THAT FrEaKy. Let's just hope I'm right...)). Another little quibble (is that what it's called?) was a lack of funny music with Harvey's 50 State Tour Thingy (just include the same music you had playing when he said the other ones). One more problem before I get into what I like so bare with me. The commercial-esque thing with Right Wing Duck with the illegal alien thing was funny, but I just think that it would've been better if it hadn't been played right in the middle of the Harvey segment.
Now for the parts I liked. The Frank Knowledge was perhaps the very best one you've done so my advice is to make topics for that segment to be totally funny ones (you've done boxing a chimp. Perhaps a new one could be something like..um...my brain is running low, but whatever it is, it should have to do with hippies and annoying them somehow). Another big plus was, as usual, SarahK, who is by far my second favorite part in all the podcasts (first being Harvey. I just love things like those "Totally True Tibdits (sp?)" and "Fun Facts About Stuff"). I also like when you include little interactions between two or more bloggers (in the most recent cast, it was Right Wing Duck and Harvey talking about their salary. In the first one you had Spacemonkey and Harvey. Umm, now that I think about it, I do have one more little suggestion: Maybe include more Spacemonkey, if he ever gets out of being captured like his most recent post suggests). The next thing that I liked was the Frank Discourse. After comparing and contrasting, I think it is better if you and the bloggers concentrate on one single topic so as to get all of the funnyness out of it, although there is rarely only one thing worth talking about going on (like this week, we have Jackson getting off, the Schaivo autopsy, and Al Franken: The Senator) that choosing one single topic can be difficult. I guess it will just have to depend on what goes on during the week.
Well, that's all I've got to say about the podcasts. I hope my tips help out in some way. Good luck on your next podcast and best wishes to your brother Joe. HEY! MAYBE HE COULD MAKE AN APPEARANCE! SURE HE'S IN IRAQ BUT HE CAN, LIKE, SEND A TAPE RECORDED MESSAGE OR HAVE A PHONE CONFERENCE THINGY WHEN HE'S NOT BUSY KILLING ASSHOLES! Sorry, but when I just get good ideas like that I get these capital letters HAVE HIM BE THE VOICE OF BUCK THE MARINE AND DONALD RUMSFELD FOR IN MY WORLD SEGMENTS! Dang. It happened again. Oh well. As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted by myself, best wishes to you all.

I second Gunlord's suggestion about including Joe foo'. I was thinking along the lines of sound effects; i.e. main gun up-close-and-personal. But to actually here him as Buck would be superfuntastic!

#4 - Posted by: Plea Deal on June 16, 2005 11:19 AM

It scares me when Sarah K yells.

#5 - Posted by: Justin Buist on June 16, 2005 11:20 AM

Sheesh! that should have been "hear him as Buck..."

#6 - Posted by: Plea Deal on June 16, 2005 11:21 AM

Thanks for the long critique, gunlord. Maybe the contest should have been a free t-shirt for best critical remarks.

As for Sgt. Joe foo' the Marine being in the podcast, he calls at odd hours and I doubt he has access to a microphone. May have to wait until he gets back to the States. He could probably do a good voice for Buck the Marine, though.

Maybe you could do a piece about liberal abortionists that eat babies" I think Evil Glen may have put this Dr. in Kansas City up to it.

I really didn't like how Harvey's segment was broken up, it made it seem like the whole broadcast was disorganized...I definately liked the first two better than the last...and your 20 minute time length is good...it could be longer, but please don't make it shorter. I don't care so much about the funny music and background stuff, the editorials should be able to stand by themselves anyway. What I mean is, the funny should be able to stand by itself without the quirky sound effects, and while the effects do add to the show and make it seem more professional, they are not essential. I mean, you do have family and lives and jobs and stuff...you don't really need to spend so much time on getting the perfect music. If you want to spend more time on it, spend more time making up new segments. A guest segment might be cool, something along the lines of voinavich's thing, only better, cause that one didn't work out too well, the joke was overused. Over all, you have been doing a great job, and I wouldn't worry too much about improving it...just keep the funny fresh and we'll keep listening. I will renew my request for letting us download the individual segments, if that's possible. I'm sorry if you already talked about it, but I've been pretty busy with work and stuff, so I haven't been able to check the old comment sections.

I liked the third one the most. Short and sweet is good. Frank Discourse much better. I think an aquaman segment ala the golden age of radio could be pretty funny. Also...

I got a fever and the only perscription is more SarahK. Babies, when I'm through with you you'll be wearing gold plated diapers!!

You've got my vote, Frank.

More SarahK!

More Hate-Filled Lefty

Can wait for "Fun Facts about Arkansas"!

Shame about Buck not being able to contribute soon. Oh well, it said on the news that they're thinking of pulling out a couple troops so as to get hippies and Kennedys to shut up. Maybe he could at least get a vacation-esque thing out of it.

#12 - Posted by: gunlord on June 16, 2005 02:16 PM

You sure could use more RightWingDuck. That guy is just amazing.

#13 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on June 16, 2005 03:08 PM

I just got an idea. For the next edition of American Monkey, Spacemonkey can interview Senator Dick Durbin (Il-D) who likened our adjusting of the air conditioner at Gitmo to Nazis, Stalin, and Pol Pot (Communist guy from Cambodia, a country next to Vietnam) killing millions of people. You know, maybe this could turn into some sort of theme thing for American Monkey. Since real HFLs never shut up, and always sound funny, they could be great for interviews. Just make sure you don't have Howard Dean on. I don't know if Spacemonkey can handle him (no offense SM, but that Dean guy is a lot tougher than most of the moonbats you've dealt with. Unless you've dealt with Ted Kennedy, then MAYBE you could handle Dean).
That's all for now. I'll be back if I come up with more ideas.

I can't wait to hear "Fun Facts About South Dakota". Thanks to SarahK, I was almost thinking of getting a hold of a copy of Firefly to watch, but I got a grip on myself. You can never trust a movie reviewer.

I love RightWingDuck and Harvey and Space Monkey. I think Aquaman should make an appearance as well. Oh, and you were good too Frank. 20 minutes was just about right. No longer and certainly no shorter.

#15 - Posted by: Lily on June 16, 2005 05:23 PM

More Spacemonkey, less non-funny talky talky.

Ha, I constructively criticized!

#16 - Posted by: Elliott on June 17, 2005 03:26 AM

Could we get transcripts of the podcasts?

I don't have access to computers with sound very often, and so I haven't found the time to listen to them.

#17 - Posted by: Ikkonoishi on June 17, 2005 08:20 AM

Ikkonoishi,
IMAO currently recommends using the free iPodder software (http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php) to download the MP3 of the IMAO Podcast to the computer you have with speakers or to an inexpensive USB flash drive (http://www.sandisk.com/retail/cruzer-mini.asp) if you have Internet access at work but want to take the IMAO Podcast home or transfer the IMAO Podcast to a portable MP3 player (http://www.sandisk.com/retail/dap.asp)so you can listen to us anytime
