Trying to Save a Life
Reader Katie e-mailed me this: I don't know if you've seen on Drudge the story about the young Catholic woman with brain cancer who's being kept alive until she can bring her baby to term. It's being slowly picked up by different MSM outlets. Jason Torres, her husband, went to high school with me, and his mom is a friend of my family's, so it's personal for me. He's had to quit his job to stay by her side. Their medical bills are about $7,500 a day and they're looking to at least mid-July before they can deliver the baby, assuming the cancer doesn't spread to her uterus. I was hoping maybe you could help spread the word through the blogosphere. Faith and Action have set up a fund to help with the medical costs, so it's all tax deductible and such. If you can help, that would be wonderful. I don't even know what to say about this, other than that I'll have the Torreses in my prayers. If you have some money to spare, please help out. If not, at least say a little prayer. It makes a difference. 20 Responses To "Trying to Save a Life"
Holy Jesus, Author and Creator of all life, have mercy on this mother and her unborn baby. May he come to a safe delivery time and live a long healthy life , giving comfort to his father on earth and glory to his Father in Heaven. Amen. #1 - Posted by: Chris on June 16, 2005 02:54 PMAmen, and AMEN. #3 - Posted by: Richard on June 16, 2005 03:32 PMI hope your life is never that boring, Cornell. The family is in our prayers. #4 - Posted by: jimmyb on June 16, 2005 03:33 PMI am so praying for this family. Also, for some reacson trackback wont work for me so: God, be with that woman and her unborn child. My prayers are with the family. Thank you, Frank, for sharing that story with us. #6 - Posted by: Steve the Pirate on June 16, 2005 04:02 PMI'll put in a personal note too. I've met Jason and Susan. Jason came over to our house, usually with his brother (and blogger) Justin. In fact, one night they came over, snuck in through a side door, and jumped my roommate in his bed just for the fun of it. Jason is a solid Catholic fellow, and I had no doubt he'd be the type to do anything to save his baby. Before I learned about www.susantorresfund.org, I was trying to get something similar going. #7 - Posted by: Jamie on June 16, 2005 04:45 PMCome back... [bunch of infantile dribblings by a moron without the cojones to even sign his name to the comment] ...healthy. This thread sure is drawing out some inane trolls. Cornell, if you're that bored, go take a nap. Frank will be back with more funny later. Schmuck. #8 - Posted by: Army NCO Guy on June 16, 2005 05:44 PMCornell works at Merrill Lynch. If you would like to retaliate for his insensitive comments, you can go to: http://www.ml.com/index.asp?id=7695_8143_8322_13510&type=200.01 and let his supervisors know about it. In the meantime... help these folks out financially!!! #9 - Posted by: on June 16, 2005 06:05 PMIn the age of abortion and killing our own for convenience...what a great and invigorating story.... #10 - Posted by: Jim on June 16, 2005 06:07 PMJust ignore the trolls. I usually have a high tolerance for them, but, in this case, they're getting deleted. #11 - Posted by: Frank J. on June 16, 2005 06:19 PMThat's great, Frank. Thank you for reporting this story. My prayers and support will be with Jason and Susan and baby. God be with this young man. #13 - Posted by: Juleni on June 16, 2005 08:12 PMThanks for the post. I've sent a link to my entire mail list. Will be keeping these folks in my prayers. #14 - Posted by: Rich on June 16, 2005 10:52 PMIn the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit: In the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit: "Cornell works at Merrill Lynch .... and let his supervisors know about it" I will & I'll also drop a BIG hint that they give to www.susantorresfund.org #17 - Posted by: Elaine on June 17, 2005 07:52 AMBy what means is she being kept alive? #18 - Posted by: Spetiam on June 18, 2005 03:25 PMI am a UD alumni and am so glad that so many bloggers out there are getting the word out. It is through emails that the media first became aware of this story. I hope that Susan survives until July 11th, the date the Torres' unborn child should be able to survive. God bless this family! #19 - Posted by: Erin on June 19, 2005 03:42 PMPost a comment
