Bush's response to foreign hurricane help: "Tactless"
Posted by Scott McCollum at 12:55 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (14)

"Bush's response was so tactless," a liberal told me today. "He could have told the other nations 'thank you for the offer but we'll handle it' but he didn't. My teenage daughter was yelling at the TV yesterday because of it."

Interesting that liberals consider this "tactless" response from the President when asked during a live TV interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer about his stance on hurricane aid from foreign nations:

President Bush: "I'm not expecting much from foreign nations because we haven't asked for it. I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars. But this country's going to rise up and take care of it. You know, we would love help, but we're going to take care of our own business as well, and there's no doubt in my mind we'll succeed. And there's no doubt in my mind, as I sit here talking to you, that New Orleans is going to rise up again as a great city."

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters on Thursday that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice decided "no offer [from foreign governments] that can help alleviate the suffering of the people in the afflicted area will be refused."

Even the communist news service in China reported on White House spokesman Scott McClellan's briefing where he said: "[The United States is] open to all offers of assistance from other nations, and I would expect we would take people up on offers of assistance when it's necessary."

EXACTLY!! We don't find it necessary to beg after France and others for favors when they can barely keep their own countries running well.

YOU GO, GEORGE!!

Worst!

Well, what do you expect from Chimpy McOilstealer? He's an Episcopalian, you know!

We should send his foriegn ass back to Episcopalia unless he is willing to do undocumented agricultural work and vote the straight democratic ticket like a proper illegal alien.

Scott, I didn't know your statements were appearing in Chinese newspapers

I understand Iran wants to send airport workers to New York, Miami and L.A. to help with refugees and security.

Well we could always drop on our knees and beg the U.N. for help . They do have such a wonderfully untarnished track record as far as humanitarian efforts are concerned.
We could even set up an oil for food, shelter program. It would work like this ..........One dollar for the survivers and 3 billion for Kofi .

Heck, the UN wouldn't even have to work very hard - the corrupt and incompetent Democrat public officials are already in charge of Louisiana/New Orleans. It wouldn't take long to arrange the kickbacks, and the Swiss bank accounts are probably already set up.

Charity requires not just those who give freely, but also someone who is willing to accept the charity with dignity: graciously and without a sense of entitlement.

I don't know many liberals who understand both sides of charity, much less dignity. As for tact, I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Bush was raised Episcopalian, but he became Methodist, Dr. E. Scientist, phD.

His marriage to Laura effectively exiled him from Episcopalia, which is now a liberal cesspool.

Methodism isn't much better these days, Damian. They've fallen for the same liberal lines that the Episcopos and the UCC have.

Master Shake- you are right about the leaders of New Orleans/Louisiana.
I personally blame a lot of the lawlessness on the fact that we don't have a real leader. Our esteemed Governess got on television and cried, calling for a day of mourning, and this isn't over yet!
What is/was needed was a strong figure to get on television and radio and say, lawlessness will not be tolerated. Muggings, theft of televisions and non-essential items will not be tolerated. Muggings, Rapes and Batteries will not be tolerated. and the next time someone shoots at one of my helicopters, you will be shot back at! line up, get on the bus and get out of New Orleans in an orderly fashion. I know you have been through a lot, but look around you. everyone has. Love your fellow man as yourself. give respect and get it in return. Face forward and move to the future. Learn from the past, but do not live in it. we have a hard road ahead, but we will adapt and move forward.

Nighthawk- "What is/was needed was a strong figure to get on television and radio and say, lawlessness will not be tolerated..."

Nighthawk... man, THEY DON'T HAVE WORKING TELEVISIONS IN NEW ORLEANS AT THE MOMENT.

No leader can control the animals in New Orleans that are taking advantage of the chaos, and don't give a damn about anything but themselves. Hopefully the National Guard will give each and every one of the barbarians a little M-16 Therapy.

And to defend myself from the coming and obvious attacks on my character, I'm not refering to race here. I've lived in New Orleans and visited friends and familes and partied there a least a hundred times, and nobody who has done that is shocked at the madness of it all. There is a definite Third World in the city, and now nobodies there to scare them back into their caves.

And while I'm ranting anyway, I'd like a little slack for the only city in the U.S. with actual character. L.A. riots and burns when juries hand down verdicts. New Orleans got hit by the left hand of God, and its freakin levies broke. Would New York, Detroit, Chicago behave any different?

There... I feel better. Ahhh..... catharsis. I think I'll go eat a steak and get drunk.
