Coming Home
Posted by Frank J. at 01:25 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (12)

A good friend of my brother, Lance Cpl. Joe Lowe, finally returned home to Boise yesterday after recovering enough from the injuries he received in Iraq that have left him paralyzed. My mother was there at the airport for it, and said it was a huge reception.

My brother is probably in Kuwait right now, should return to the states this weekend, and should hopefully get back to Boise with the rest of his Marine reserve unit on the fifteenth. Joe Lowe really wanted to be back home for that and got his wish.

Glad they are both getting back. Sorry to hear of your bro's friend injuries. I know you are looking forward to your brother's return.

Glad to hear he's home in one piece, even if it's an injured piece. May God bless them both.

Oh God. I wish I could write something worthy of this situation. I can't believe we have men like this.

The media would have you believe they are the exception. In America, they are closer to being the rule.

"This injury has opened my eyes. In a way, I'm thankful that I have the outlook this has given me…I will accomplish more in this chair than I ever would have on two legs."

I’m just speechless, and as I write this I’m getting all misty. I wonder if the Cindy Sheehan crowd will ever understand the sacrifices these brave soldiers make, and that they do so out of love of country and of freedom. I think the Iraqi people do, and that’s really what matters, but it would be nice if the rest of the world felt that way.

I have a friend whose son came back from Iraq last year, and he said that if called back, he would go willingly and proudly. He’s a Marine too. Tell your brother that even though there are some who would wish the war in Iraq would end as Vietnam did, there are many more who hope for success and we will NEVER be silences nor cowed.

I want to express my unconditional respect and gratitude. Even though I´m not an American, I know what people like Lance Cpl Lowe are doing for all of us. But I cannot comprehend their sacrifice. So I bow my head.

I am a personal friend of Joe Lowe with whom I worked for nearly two years on armored trucks in Boise together. I was activated first with Idaho's 116th CAV to deploy to Iraq and I heard Joe's Marine unit would be behind us by only a few months. I'm still in Iraq with only a month to go and have been unable to contact Joe since his injury. If someone could email me with his contact information I would be very thankful. Joe and Beth are a wonderful couple and good friends and I would like to get in touch to add my support.

I can't add anything to this thread, except God bless 'em both, and all the others over there. These are Americans.
