What do the French find most distressing about the riots?
It's much harder to rant about the barbarism of the Americans when people are smashing and burning stuff all around you.
I thought it was the lack of any one person or group to surrender to.

Very true Frank. We have the drive and will to smash and burn stuff in other countries. The French, however, being inherently phlegmatic, can't be arsed to leave the country before blowing stuff up.
Maybe all the rioting noise is flattening their souffles
