A Review of Cindy Sheehan's New Book
Posted by Harvey at 04:15 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (15)

(A Precision Guided Humor Assignment)

Before I dive into the review, a note about Amazon.com. When I first posted the PGH assignment at Alliance HQ on November 24th, I noticed several 1-star reviews of Sheehan's book.

When I returned today, I noticed that all the 1-star reviews prior to November 29th had been removed. ALL of them. Even though 5-star reviews from as far back at Nov 17th are still there.

Anyway, here's a link to the list of reviews, lowest first. Currently there are 5 1-star reviews dated Nov 29 (you have to click the "next" link to get to where the 5th one is listed). If you guys could keep an eye on that and let me know if they start disappearing, I'd appreciate it.

UPDATE: When I started writing this post, there were 6 1-star reviews dated Nov 30. Now there are 5.

Just freakin' CREEPY...

Look, I *really* tried to read Cindy's book before posting this review, but I was too busy buying pants for British soldiers. Nevertheless, I managed to compile a few reviews from other noteworthy Americans, on the assumption that you'll be able to trust their judgment when it comes to choosing your reading material.

What could possibly go wrong?

Martin Sheen - "I love this book! In fact, I even sleep with it. Not in... you know... the Biblical sense... ok, maybe once. But I swear it was consensual!"

Michael Moore - "Great book. I ate a copy with some fava beans and a nice chianti."

Joan Baez - "Best. Book. Ever. I mean, if it weren't for this book, I wouldn't have my picture posted at Amazon.com?

Oh... THAT'S what.

Fine. Let's just cut to the chase. If Cindy's book were a dog, it'd be this one:

uglydog.jpg

Meanwhile, I'll quote you one last Amazon review:

After reading this book everyone should be able to realize how painful it is for a mother to live without her son, how oainful it for a wife to live without husband who is killed in war.

Of course, I'm sure some people don't need a book to realize that...

Not One More Mother's Child, indeed.

Cindy's looking a little better these days.

Oh wait....

what is "oainful"?

#2 - Posted by: the man on November 30, 2005 05:26 PM

My favorite 1-star review:

"As for your partially read book, it is now lining my birdcage becasue the paperboy got hit by a car and hasn't delivered the paper in two days"

#3 - Posted by: the man on November 30, 2005 05:32 PM

The Man - According to Google, "oainful" is a form of rampant tooth decay.

I may send the book to my brother in Iraq, for a target...the lies in it are big enough for it. Or maybe to light a fire, the nights over there are wicked cold. I bid you and yours peace love and understanding.

i linked the page and the amazon link to bothe sean hannity and neal bortz, hopefully one of the two will make this one a big story and we can start exploring how biased amazon truly is

UPDATE 12-1-05 7am: Down to 3 1-star reviews from Nov 29th

That poor beast, doomed to look like Cindy (and the rest of the left wing freaks) forever… I would pity it but I’m too sick to my stomach.

It needs to be stuffed and used for a Halloween decoration.

WOW! I'm truly SHOCKED!

I mean, I had NO IDEA she was even literate!

#9 - Posted by: Undercover Hippie on December 2, 2005 08:48 AM

Per the email I sent you Harvey, Amazon was thanking me for letting them know, but maybe you can use the reply letter they sent me anyway for some material. It was pretty bland, but who knows maybe the liberal undercurrent of their "gratitude" will be worthy of poking fun at..."thanks for letting us KNOW, Infiltrator, now we have an insider on those conservative bloggers" [snarl/hiss]

it is great fun to disparage a woman who has lost a child.

#11 - Posted by: L5cAH on December 2, 2005 03:04 PM

L5cAH - Losing a child doesn't exempt her or anyone else from being held accountable for their own words and actions.

Unless you're trying to say that she doesn't mean a single word of what she says in the book because she's insane with grief?

If you'd like to make that argument, I'll listen...

#12 - Posted by: Harvey on December 2, 2005 03:37 PM

Unlike the death penalty, over which there is plenty of debate regarding its benefits and detriments to society, and a host of other issues, there’s almost no such debate possible over abortion. It is simply in your heart: you either believe the State should be able to kill whichever class of unborn human it wants, or you don’t. Unfortunately, the State’s frequent blunders when attempting to administrate this kind of “choice” has no effect on those who believe the State must, for some absurd reason, retain the right to kill its own unborn.

#13 - Posted by: Bill Slugg on December 3, 2005 01:45 AM

Bill - I disagree.

Like any other societal policy, it's a matter of weighing the costs & benefits of enforcing a particular position.

In this case, it's a question of "do we protect constitutional rights from conception? At birth? Somewhere in between?"

By shifting the line, you shift which burdens fall on which people. If you argue for a shift, you're arguing for the appropriateness of shifting burdens.

Right and wrong has very little to do with public policy.

What "Child". If Cindy would back off that hookah party with Screamy Deanie or "Ketchup" medal Kerry she would realize that her "child" left home because he would would wrather die in war than listen to one more day of her whining.Thank god for the "Your an adult law" huh.
