Are You a Friggin' Genius?
Posted by spacemonkey at 01:06 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (51)

According to Mensa (the smart folk society) if you get 19 of the riddles right on this test you, my egg head friend, are a friggin' genius.

Actually, the test doesn't measure friggin-ness, just genius-ness.

Want to know how I did? Don't look below the fold till after you take the test.

And it takes a while, but I'll wait right here for you.

I only got 19... I'm deeply disappointed in myself. :(

#1 - Posted by: Tsymyn on January 20, 2006 01:40 PM

Hey, at least you're a genius!

#2 - Posted by: spacemonkey on January 20, 2006 01:47 PM

which three did you miss, and do you want to know?

although it wont accept the 27 B in the N T answer. I must have mispelled something.

#3 - Posted by: tommy on January 20, 2006 01:50 PM

Must have, I got that one. I had to alt-tab over to Word and check the "M" word in "1000 Y in a M," so don't feel bad.

#4 - Posted by: Tsymyn on January 20, 2006 02:44 PM

I eaked out a 19. Looks like I misspelled the M word. There were a couple more that I was sure I had right.

#5 - Posted by: chaika on January 20, 2006 02:56 PM

26 and counting...

#6 - Posted by: Justin Buist on January 20, 2006 02:59 PM

21/33 but i know there are some lurking in my brain somewhere...i'm glad it wasn't timed.

Spacemonkeys are ALWAYS smarter than their terrestrial counterparts. That's a true fact. As opposed to the other kind of fact, i suppose...

so congratulations!

#7 - Posted by: aA on January 20, 2006 03:12 PM

26... dang it, but i'm sure i'll figure the others out before the end of day...

#8 - Posted by: shane on January 20, 2006 03:28 PM

Sorry, I was at 27 and counting when I posted. I discovered one while posting.

#9 - Posted by: DesertElephant on January 20, 2006 03:32 PM

wtf?

My current score is 28. I have 19 correct answers, and 14 blanks. How the F does that work?

#10 - Posted by: Jon on January 20, 2006 03:48 PM

23 here.....so either the vast majority of IMAO readers are uber-intelligent, or we're all a bunch of filthy cheaters. Smart money is on the latter.

#11 - Posted by: coleman063 on January 20, 2006 03:50 PM

28, unaided, 31 with 3 clues, 33 with 2 outright answers.

#12 - Posted by: DesertElephant on January 20, 2006 04:23 PM

I gave up at 27. I'm happy just being a super-genius, rather than a super-duper-genius.

#13 - Posted by: Master Shake on January 20, 2006 04:30 PM

I am right with coleman063, on score and opinion...i give up at 23...of course the rest will bug me till my old age...which should be here any day now, if i'm any judge of horseflesh...

#14 - Posted by: aA on January 20, 2006 04:39 PM

I'm currently at 22 out of 33. But I'll get the rest, give me more time.

#15 - Posted by: rachel on January 20, 2006 04:41 PM

somebody's been reading digg.com.....

#16 - Posted by: slapout on January 20, 2006 04:52 PM

Ya'll must be drinking the right water, this poor ole dumb Redneck could only manage 16 correct...of course thats a actual 16. Damn it must be 'cause I'm from Texas, but you know what I'd bet large money I can out-shoot them genius boys...(1 S = 1 K, I D, N R) ya'll figure that one out!
L8R WK

#17 - Posted by: White Knight on January 20, 2006 05:19 PM

27 is my limit. i gave up and read the answers. 3 of those i missed, i would have never gotten in a million years...

#18 - Posted by: shane on January 20, 2006 05:20 PM

couldn't figure out six of them; now my head hurts...... (I had to look up millennium too...)

#19 - Posted by: lonevoice on January 20, 2006 05:51 PM

Well you are more genius than I as I only got 23. But I did get one that you missed ... 15 Men on a dead man's chest.

I missed the other one you did too, but think there must be a spelling error. What else could it be but 1000 years in a millenium?

#20 - Posted by: Squiggler on January 20, 2006 06:00 PM

aaaah, millennium ... so score 24. So how come I'm unemployed and my blog is under read?

#21 - Posted by: Squiggler on January 20, 2006 07:06 PM

Only 20 here. I'm a low-level genius. Oh well.

#22 - Posted by: jonag on January 20, 2006 07:15 PM

31 for me. The ones I couldn't get were #30 (9 P in S A) and #31 (6 B to an O in C)

#23 - Posted by: SpaceChimpanzee on January 20, 2006 08:00 PM

How about this one...

7th L of H

For whoever came up with such a puzzler!

#24 - Posted by: azlibertarian on January 20, 2006 08:34 PM

SpaceChimpanzee, I'm stuck on the exact same two.

#25 - Posted by: Tim on January 20, 2006 08:52 PM

Ultimate Spoiler Alert!!

Don't click here if you want to finish this yourself!

(Man, do I love Google. Note to self: Invest in that company one day.)

#26 - Posted by: azlibertarian on January 20, 2006 09:16 PM

I got a perfect score!!!!

Oh, wait, that's my result for the Love Child quiz just one post down.

Uh oh...

#27 - Posted by: Ked Tennedy on January 20, 2006 10:22 PM

21 here - two misspellings that kept me at 19 for a while, the M one and I put an apostrophe in another one.

There was a set of three that once I got one, I immediately knew the other two...

#28 - Posted by: Ann on January 21, 2006 12:49 AM

22, not counting the "52 cards in a pack (without joker)" for which it won't give me credit (nor for several other variations on it). I spelled "millennium" correctly only because I remembered misspelling it when it was the name of a proudct competitive with one of my employer's products.

Not bad for a guy who earns his living writing VBA, SQL, etc., instead of English.

#29 - Posted by: Silicon Valley Jim on January 21, 2006 11:42 AM

I was impressed I had 30 until I gave my 17 y/o the URL and he came back an hour later with 30. I'm not so sure this is a genius test.

He helped me with the cricket one (English nanny), and I helped him with the geography one, so now we both have 31 and are both stumped on 27 & 28.

#30 - Posted by: Charlie on January 21, 2006 12:18 PM

Make that 28 and 29. And there is usually more than a single joker in a deck.

#31 - Posted by: Charlie on January 21, 2006 12:23 PM

22.

I'm disappointed, but then again there's no time limit. If I had more time, maybe I'd be even smarterer.

#32 - Posted by: Undercover Hippie on January 21, 2006 03:30 PM

With a lot of help from dictionaries and Google, I got to 25 before I had to give up and go to bed. Finishing today with help of the spoiler, I got 26 on my own. I would never have known 30, 31 or 33.

#33 - Posted by: the paperboy on January 21, 2006 04:31 PM

I almost punched my keyboard when I quit at 27. I was one word off on three of them.

#34 - Posted by: odiwan on January 21, 2006 04:34 PM

Delete and retype the ones you know are correct but it doesn't accept. It wouldn't accept the two "7" answers until I retyped them. Duh!!

...it still won't accept the 1000 Y answer no matter how I spell "M".

#35 - Posted by: TinaC on January 21, 2006 06:24 PM

And there is usually more than a single joker in a deck.

That probably explains it. I'm sort of ignorant of anything resembling pop culture; now, if the clue had been "32 P S by B", I would have gotten it instantly (piano sonatas by Beethoven).

I have 26 so far, some of these others I am sure I know, but they just ain't clicking in my brain. I am missing 17, 24 and 28 thru 31.

grrr!

#41 - Posted by: on January 22, 2006 07:09 PM

Hahahahaha!

Okay, I'm a friggin' genius and I'm still dumb enough to forget to add my name before posting! Derherr!

I got 23 right, then I got immersed in the wonderful world of Anglo-American weights and measures.
8 furlongs in a mile, 4 homesteads in a section, that kind of stuff.

#43 - Posted by: Brutha on January 22, 2006 08:27 PM

I got 27. Would have gotten a couple more if I were British.

#44 - Posted by: Alan K. Henderson on January 23, 2006 04:52 AM

i got 31. missed 31 & 32.

#46 - Posted by: sarahk on January 23, 2006 07:06 AM

I'm a dolt; only got 21...

#47 - Posted by: crusher on January 23, 2006 09:24 AM

Scoring: 1 to 5 is Average, 6 - 11 Somewhat Intelligent, 12 to 18 Intelligent, 19 + Genius

CORRECT ANSWERS: 33 / 33

You have to remember that this test was created by people in South Africa.

#48 - Posted by: Playpond on January 26, 2006 06:54 AM

20 here. I'm thinking it can't be a true measure if genius if I got 19+. Then again, they do say IMAO readers are pretty damn smart.

#49 - Posted by: Alucard on January 28, 2006 01:47 AM

Well, I got them all correct. That's right, 33/33.

But then, it said nothing about not being allowed to use Google.

Okay, maybe not smart, but at least resourceful.

#50 - Posted by: Roger Snowden on January 28, 2006 09:59 AM

i got 32 out of 33 and i'm only 14! how cool is that!! I couldn't do 1000Y in a Millenium though, i spent about 6 minutes on that one question but whole test took me only 17 minutes!!!
