some things never change . . .
It was nice to see that Jacques Chirac solved the Youth Jobs Law controversy by resorting to that tried and true French institution: surrender. Of course, Chirac characterized it as "replacing" one provision for another. Yeah, kind of like when Nazi soldiers "replaced" French soliders in Paris in 1940. 10 Responses To "some things never change . . ."
I was really hoping Nicholas Sarkozy would make an appearance and call these kids, "punks" too. #1 - Posted by: motopolitico on April 10, 2006 09:08 PMSorry Frank, but you've just violated Godwin's Law, which states that the first side to mention Nazis, loses. Well, it's a good thing that this wasn't a serious debate, right? #3 - Posted by: ssj2gunslinger on April 10, 2006 10:30 PMssj, I think when the French are involved, Godwin's Law can be ignored. Besides, I think Godwin's Law only applies from a practical perspective if one is comparing a person directly or indirectly to Hitler or the Nazis. Pointing out a historical precident is a bit different. #4 - Posted by: SilverBubble on April 11, 2006 12:38 AMI used to think the problem with France was leadership, but it's not. The problem with France is the people. They couldn't find a common sense solution with both hands, a flashlight, On Star, GPS, a metal detector, a truffle hunting pig, or a deaf, dumb and blind menkey ( a la Inspector Clouseau.) Just like after the French Revolution, they deserve what they get. People will have to die and the country will have to be on the brink of annihilation before any level heads will emerge. #5 - Posted by: seanmhair on April 11, 2006 07:39 AMIf they had elected LePen there would be no angry foreign born youths to employ, or course if LePen had his way there'd be no foreigners. #6 - Posted by: on April 11, 2006 10:41 AMYou're right, seanmhair. Godwin's Law is only voilated if you compare the GROUP to Nazis, not comparing the situation to one involving Nazis. My mistake. Actually, I shouldn't even care even if Godwin's Law is broken. This is a humor site, and so hyperbole is a requirement. #7 - Posted by: ssj2gunslinger on April 11, 2006 11:05 AMThe solution is simple. Simply give tasks to French youth and pay them to do them as part of the protest. French youth have no idea what work is, so they won't know when they're doing it. #8 - Posted by: Son of Bob on April 11, 2006 03:11 PMI live in France (temporarily, thanks God, haha) and I can testify this people is somewhat wicked. It's almost an atheist nation, where pride has obscured the common sense of their nationals. Plus, they are nearly communists (Chirac in fact is in the center right party, so you can imagine HOW communist is someone that says to be in the left). And third, besides Napoleon, France has never been a country remembered by the courage of their people (in fact, french attack Napoleon's memory). #9 - Posted by: Daniel on April 12, 2006 11:13 AMI am living in france, and am a french citizen. I must say what daniel says is pretty much true for the current situation, although i disagree for the historical perspective. French are infected by communism, believe in the state to do everything.
