I agree that "Dark Side of the Moon" is one of the best works ever by any band, but my personal favorite is "Animals." It's a little edgier and certainly weird, and I've always been oddly attracted to the least popular albums of many bands; eg., my favorite Van Halen album is "Fair Warning." And I ain't deaf, but I do have mild tinitis from too many metal shows.

Hehehe... very good point Paleo. I listen to so much music I tend to let things slip by. Animals, yes, is a great album. I haven't listened to that one in a very long time; I will put that on when I get home from work today.

I shutter to wonder what people would think of me if they knew the artists I listen to. My political views could be described as to the right of Ann Coulter; but the artists I listen to could not be more liberal. I will most likely regret this little snippet of honesty.

Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, two blues players, were who the band was named after.

And even though Gilmour is the true talent in the band, don't forget that he was the member of the band trashing the US for not helping enough before the latest Live Aid.

I have to concur: Animals is my all time favorite Floyd album.

We saw Roger in concert in Tampa in 2000. It was a great concert.

There is truly a very weird stigma out there that suggests if you listen to Willie Nelson then you must smoke weed like he does. Or if you listen to the Rolling Stones then you must hate "neo cons". I, however, have no doubt that more conservatives cross over in their choice of artists than liberals do. Not near as many liberals listen to country as conservatives that listen to different types of rock. Just my opinion. Aren't they suppose to be the group that is most open minded? How strange!

What is it with people getting pissed when they protect their own borders and citizens? When I was younger and into psychedelic recreational drugs I was way into Floyd. I had almost every album, in vinyl no less! Hard choice but I'd say Animals barely over DsotM. I loved "Pigs on the Wings" On one of their earliest albums there was a song called "Allen's Psychedelic Breakfast" including recordings of Rice Crispy's in milk snaping and crackling and poping and then off into psycholand before returning to the sound of his bowl again. They were OUT THEIR, of course that was the point I think. Still one of my favorite bands. As a word to the wise don't trust the politics of people who don't really work for a living especially ones that made their living being LSD heads.

I get your point but I think that is a bit of an blanket overstatement. Someone’s usefulness on a particular subject is a function of their grasp of that subject. Many artists and public figures feel that their notoriety gives them license and that they really don’t have to do their homework and become familiar with something before charging out there and telling everyone what is supposed to be done and how to do it. I might add that many businessmen will run into the same problems.

Another problem is the majority of artists tend to be emotivist, rather than rationalist, in their approach to the world. They act because they feel strongly about something. An emotivist will gather to himself whatever viewpoint and supporting evidence he needs to support his gut feelings. In depth analysis, and opposing viewpoint are not only of little use to the emotivist but present a maddening opposition to what that person feels it right. Unfortunately, emotivism has been much the vogue with artists since the German Romantic Movement of the 19th century.

I might also add that artists in many fields tend to be very tribal and hyper-conformist to the views of the tribe. Many artists that are fellow travelers with the tribe, tend to expect a set of beliefs, values, and actions from their fellow travelers. Actual talent may vary, but you must conform to the group beliefs to belong. Most of you have probably noticed that many of the most publicly nonconformist also tend to be at the same time the most harshly conformist within the tribe. It might also be pointed out that religious cults and criminal gangs often act in the same manor. Not that I'm pooling artists with criminals.

Anyone who listens to Pink Floyd and does not tout Dark Side of the Moon as their best work ever is simply deaf.

I remember this one troll on a forum who asked how we could be conservative and still like music such as John Cougar Mellencamp. Well, after I trashed Johnny boy (not on account of his politics, but because his music just sucks) I explained that I prefer not to let high school drop-outs dictate my opinions to me just because I like their music. (And no, other conservatives don’t dictate my opinions, either. Side benefit of being conservative: you’re allowed to disagree with others on your side) I much prefer thinking for myself, if it’s all the same.
