I'm Going to Potatoland!
Posted by Frank J. at 08:40 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (21)

Tonight, the lovely and talented SarahK and I will be heading for Idaho to visit with my folks, my silly sister Sarah, Joe foo' the Marine, and my Grandma. We will also go out into the desert and shoot stuff (our favorite guns are coming with us). For reading on the flight, I have my e-books (including Jim Baen's Universe) and, for my new comic kick, the third volume of Y: The Last Man and Frank Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (SarahK let me buy some graphic novels despite that they cost $10 and often are only a half-hour read).

Anyway, I'll be there all next week. I will have internet access the whole time, but I probably won't be blogging. So, don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. spacemonkey will be in charge while I'm away since he has administrative rights.

Be honorable, ronin. (well, I'm not leaving now, but, still, be honorable)

Sarahk let you buy some graphic novels?!? As in you asked her permission, and she approved?!?1

That's so cool of her! My wife gives me grief over things like that as well.

Primus: The permission for the graphic novels only goes to show you that SarahK values her quiet time at greater than $20/hour.

Secundus: The deep question though is will they still let you take anything to read an e-book on onto the flight?

Tertius: Have a good vacation.

Things to do in Idaho...
First 8 hours, assuming your day starts at 7ish AM:
Breakfast, conversation, watch a Spud Grow, Read, watch a Spud Grow, Lunch, watch a Spud Grow, shoot things, watch a Spud Grow, read some more, Dinner, watch a Spud Grow, a little Tube, and finally get Your Monkey Spanked, Spanked again, took your Viagara for fun?, Spanked once more, Pass OUT...

Thats the itinerary for 7 days, not necesarily in that order...

If you find yourself in the Salt Lake area for some unknown reason, give me a holler, I'll go shooting with you. I'll take my 4 and 6 year old as well. They LOVE shooting.

My wife, not so much.

If you wanna shoot stuff in the desert, then come visit me in NM. There's lots of peop... uh, stuff to shoot around here.

#5 - Posted by: AlanABQ on August 25, 2006 01:38 PM

Since I once lived in Idaho, I know that besides shooting stuff there really isn't much to do. I would recommend cans of silly string. Sadly after living in California you realize some generalizations of Idaho are true. Instead of the graphic novels, why don't you work on Hellbender? I found I miss Doug and the gang. Seriously don't make me go "Misery" on you(J.K.). Have fun shooting stuff.

frankj,
i'd be interested in hearing what regulations are these days to travel
with your firearms?

#7 - Posted by: kevink on August 25, 2006 01:57 PM

loomdog,
You're going to go "Misery" on J.K. Rowlings? Understandable if she says she won't finish the series.

As for Hellbender, I'm pumped to get some progress on that soon. When I have a few chapters done, you'll get to see.

kevink,
I don't think they've really changed for checked firearms.

(x-ray operator) Hey guys, check this out! Have you ever seen a luggage set completely full of guns?

#14 - Posted by: c on August 25, 2006 08:17 PM

Only the tourists call it Potatoland. Show them you know what's what by referring to it as Potadaho.

FrankJ,

Any recommendations on eBook readers? I have to work late to print Universe. Bummer.

I go to school in Idaho! I will look for you in a nearby field to see of there are any random guys shooting guns.

#18 - Posted by: GT on August 26, 2006 06:17 PM

If you run into a really tall, awkward kid with bad hair, watch out! I hear the local gangs wanted him to join because he was good with the Bo Staff.

"Graphic Novels?" I thought only lefty swine used such euphemisms, Frnak. So does "Where's Waldo" qualify as a "graphic novel," or does it at least have to have a plot, like "Richard Scary's Busy Busy World?"
