Yeah, That Pretty Much Sums It Up

I got this from Glenn Reynolds who was e-mailed it from Bill Whittle who found it in Tim Blair's comment section written by Dave S.:

"The Republicans lost and the Democrats won for the same reason -- they distanced themselves from their base."

Which base? I felt abandoned as a Conservative as it seemed to move toward Religious Socialism.

Republicans can't have it both ways. Is it a religious values party (More government More spending) or a States power party (Less government less spending)??

I'm catholic, but I don't expect everyone else to be.

I don't see how religious values party = More government/More spending

I see more government/more spending as trying (and failing) to court left-of-center voters.

I mean c'mon, he's W. You think a little thing like the most massive entitlement program EVER (medicare drug program for seniors) is going to win them over? Only if he'd signed it into law with his own blood, all of it.

Spacemonkey - You one smart primate! Anyone who thinks the current Republican leadership of the House or Senate reflects "Christian values" in any way doesn't have a clue...but then, Ringmaster said he was catholic, so that goes without saying....Kidding! What?!

Like wanting legislation on Abortion, Gay Marrige, Stem Cells, it's all more govt restrictions.

On top of that, the social programs and tax incentives that come with them cost $$ for people that use it for political gain (Just like colleges for the left.)

And with what you're talking about in conjunction, It's more money, more govt.

and NOT ENOUGH MONEY to bring you back from space.

"The Republicans lost and the Democrats won for the same reason -- they distanced themselves from their base." - This is the best summary in a nutshell on the election. The dems could not win running radial lefties (i.e Ned Lament) so they ran "centralists" who will all turn very liberal to keep support from the DNC. It will take new, focused on basic conservative leaders in the Pub House and Senate to gain some of these seats back in 2008 and 2012. I also think most of the American public has been really duped by the media on this. We do elect the politicians we deserve.

WHOA!! "Like wanting legislation on Abortion, Gay Marrige, Stem Cells, it's all more govt restrictions."

Abortion is heinous, and should not be accepted in a civilized society. Period.

The rules against stem cells have nothing to do with preventing stem cell research. The Republicans do not want federal money spent on using embryonic stem cells that requires the destruction of the embryo. Why is it a "restriction" for the government to say what federal money can and cannot be used to fund? Are you a tax-and-spend liberal in disguise?

And WE didn't start the fight about gay marriage. The gay activists did. We are responding in order to preserve the NATURE of marriage that has served mankind VERY WELL for thousands of years. Civilization itself is based on the concept of a nuclear family - one man, one woman. We are defending civilization against its own destruction.

Ultimately I don't feel all that upset about the loss due to Chaffee being gone. The senate was actually hostile to Bush for the last few years where a couple of mavericks thought they were more important than the president. The congress was by no means a rubber stamp for Bush as proclaimed by Democrats. I wouldn't mind Republicans filibustering and veto-ing as this would only enforce that their are checks and balances and that the Democrats do not have this mandate that they think they have. If the Party would put people forward worth voting for I think we would have a drastic chanege for the better. Until then we'll have to endure McCain being put forward as a candidate. Sadly conservatives worth voting for want nothing to do with politics. FrankJ put up a picture gallery of SarahK a gun of the week type, or finish Hellbender so I won't feel disenfranchised.

Uh, Ringmaster - Scuse me, but if you want the GOVERNMENT to spend MY tax money on embryonic stem cells, then YOU are in the wrong party...not me. Extend the same argument more or less to the other items you mentioned. If you want to know what the Republican Party would look like if it jettisoned Christians and social conservatives, take a look at the Libertarian Party. Hey, since you checked your morality at the door, you might consider voting Libertarian...you papist Joooo-puppet. Kidding. Kidding!

#8 - Posted by: Gunga on November 9, 2006 12:43 PM

Dude, I don't want them to use your money on that!! You got me wrong. I don't want em to use money on ANY of that crap. No legislation, no action. Instead of banning abortion, we just call the girls murderous sluts until they quit or kill themselves. The only science I'm interested in tax money going into is a big laser in orbit that can fry cities.

There, I hope that's more clear.

I'm libritarian at heart... but their party meetings are psycho man....

#9 - Posted by: Ringmaster on November 9, 2006 01:27 PM

Ringthingy - Calling girls names is way mean...are you sure you aren't a Dem? If we're gonna fry cities, can we start with Bologna? I'm hungry...you papist, joooooooooo-puppet pig.

#10 - Posted by: Gunga on November 9, 2006 01:38 PM

I went through a period once where I thought I was a burrito. Turns out I was drunk and stuck in my sheets.

All your bologna are belong to the Pope'N'J00s
