Get Your Star Wars Holiday Special - Fast!
Posted by Harvey at 08:08 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (12)

Go to YouTube and search for Star Wars Holiday Special. Someone currently has it loaded in 10 parts (see the "Related" section at the site for the other parts). You can download them via KeepVid, if you want.

Better hurry. Lucas has his stormtroopers looking for this stuff.

And while we're at it, let's not forget the Star Wars guys on The Muppet Show

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

No guarantee on how long those links will be good.

There's also a BitTorrent file available of it. Star Wars Holiday Special 718 Megs, but pretty good quality.

It's also on the good old 'mule.

Man, I almost didn't believe the hype... but I also lasted only until the character introduction. "Introducing Chewbacca's family"? AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

Why would you put such an abomination linked to this site? Seriously the Holiday Special is one of the worst projects ever undertaken in the Star Wars series even the Ewok and droid cartoon series weren't this bad. Why put this out other than to say that George Lucas amazingly made four good movies in his whole life (episode 4,5,6, & Willow).

#3 - Posted by: loomdog on December 27, 2006 11:03 AM

Why?

Because this sort of monumental badness must be seen to be believed (and some of the younger Star Wars fans think it's only an urban legend)

Yeah kids need to know about it. They don't need to experience it. You don't need to be oppressed to learn of oppression. You don't need to serve in the military before you can talk about the military. History books are really reader's digest versions of what people have suffered through. Seriously, think of the children, oh the humanity. Baseball hats and aprons on wookies it hurts so bad.

Guys...."the children" are the exact reason why this piece of crap was ever made. Never mind what Lucas says..."Star Wars" was originally made to be a stand-alone film. I may entertain the idea of maybe 'there was an outline for other stories', but I doubt much thought was put into it. Fox was putting a huge risk on financing the film, and they thought Lucas was a fool for wanting the rights to license toys etc. When SW:ANH became such a hit, Lucas was pressured to crank out as much crap as possible and to target the children especially. Because of this, you end up with shit like "Lumpy", "Itchy" and the Muppet show nonsense. I feel your pain. I really do.

I survived approximately eight minutes of it...and it was just too much.

George Lucas amazingly made four good movies in his whole life (episode 4,5,6, & Willow).

Didn't other people direct Eps 5 & 6? I'm pretty sure that at least one of them wasn't even directed by Lucas.

#8 - Posted by: Francesco Poli on December 28, 2006 11:35 AM

Lucas only directed A New Hope. All the others were directed by someone else.

As a huge fan of the muppet show, this was allright. It all makes fun of itself anyway. It is supposed to be ridiculous. I also think poor Mark was trying to show that he had some other talent than just playing Luke Skywalker, which is true.
The Christmas special is an abomination, however.

HPHA - I'm a Muppet Show fan, too. And I don't blame the Star Wars guys for making an appearance. It was a pretty hip & trendy thing to do at the the time.

Still, it would've been a better show if they just would've had Mark Hamill on and skipped the tin cans & walking carpet. It's easier to write a sketch around 1 than 4. Adding the sidekicks didn't make the show any better.

I'd borrowed a tape of the SWHS from a friend. That's two hours of my life that I'm never getting back.
