Must... Carry... Rugged... Man-purse...
That wacky Keith Olbermann says 24 is "naked propaganda" while others ask if its a "neocon sex fantasy." This is opinion where at least some of the Kwazy Kos Kids diverge with messiah Oblermann. On the other hand, SarahK is thinking of giving up on 24 because Jack Bauer killed Curtis (incidentally, I heard a rumor that was how Tony was supposed to die last season, i.e., Bauer was going to shoot him while he tried to kill Robocop, but they decided they didn't have enough time in the season to explore the emotional effect that would have on Bauer). I've noticed right-wing message in 24, but I've also seen left-wing talking points. So, what do you think? Is 24 all fear mongering to get us to vote Republican (and exterminate cougars)? I know I've only voted Republican since it first started airing. Coincidence? I think not! UPDATE: Dean Barnett has an FAQ on roughly the same subject. 13 Responses To "Must... Carry... Rugged... They say what they do to get as many people as possible to watch. #1 - Posted by: joepodcaster on January 17, 2007 01:16 PMwell. i was disappointed in the new politically correct crap on 24...but at least the writers had sense enough to show the part where one red-neck thinking a guy was a terrorist was correct. i hated that jack killed curtis but what was up with curtis's acting anyway? he looked desperate and his eyes didn't look right. what was that about? if jack is not going to be on the show then i won't watch. he better get back in the game with some righteous ass-kickin! #2 - Posted by: Bikermommy on January 17, 2007 01:19 PMIn a sea of politically correct dramas, comedies and reality shows, there are a couple of shows that present an alternate point of view. Of course, this cannot be allowed. The media must innudate us with their images and philosophy of choice - a liberal (sorry, progressive) view of Eutopia which will only be achieved when we are all Rototron/Stepford Wife zombies. Any deviation from the program is simply not allowed. So, they try to shame us. Freedom of choice? Not so much if you choose something not liberal (sorry, progressive) enough. Soylent Green is People, people! Oh, sorry, I'm fine now...carry on. If the left hates 24 then I’m ok with it! If Keith Oberman hates it…I vote we give it an Academy Award even though it’s only a TV show! If the KOS Kids hate it…then it rules!!! More of Jack kicking bad guys ass and less of the chit-chat-character-building-hand-wringing-crap also! And PLEASE shoot Kloey’s boyfriend in the next episode! #4 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on January 17, 2007 01:58 PMFirst: It's a TV show people, get a life. Move out of your parents' basement! You, in the front row, have you ever even kissed a girl? You're taking a little show that they're doing on a lark and turning into a colossal waste of time! Second: You think this is leftist? We have weenie "let's negotiate with the terrorists" pols in the White House and what do they get? A Mushroom cloud! Are there people who think that way? Yup, sure are. Along with them, we have Peter McNichol undermining the President. OK, well, that's a little leftist. I think the show is mostly a show about a group of people who are trying to stop nasty things from happening and a group of mealy-mouthed politicians who are trying to keep their hands clean and maintain plausible deniability. Yup, sounds like America to me. #5 - Posted by: keith on January 17, 2007 02:14 PMCouple of small detail tells. Unlike most of the MSM, the characters on 24 refer to the President as "Mr. President"(Neither a Left or Right thing, but a matter of respect that's been lacking since Jan01). Like most of the MSM, especially this season, they insist on including the suicide bomber(s) in the casualty count (a Left thing). The villains usually end up not being Islamists whackjobs and instead end up someone tied to some sort of "Haliburton" or "Rove" (a Left thing). Unlike the MSM, Hollywood, and assorted flavors of squishie whinesacks, Jack doesn't have a problem doing what needs to be done; be it kicking someone in the pants, threatening to kick someone in the pants, or allowing himself to be kicked in the pants. The fact that the majority of John and Jane Q. Public doesn't have a problem with this position means that the programing hasn't taken hold and the MSM, Hollywood and the squishie whinesacks need to redouble their efforts. Is it "naked propoganda"? That'd be nice, no matter who is in the White House. These Islamist whackjobs want to end us. It'd be nice if the "idiots" in the West would figure that one out and stop being so "useful". #6 - Posted by: on January 17, 2007 03:00 PMThey just had a segment on CNN about the neo-con takeover of "24". Darth Rove will be proud. #7 - Posted by: PuppyBlenders Unite on January 17, 2007 03:14 PMWho cares, its not Rome. I can say that I have never seen 5 min of that episode. #8 - Posted by: Robert on January 17, 2007 04:49 PMHonestly, I have never watched one episode of "24". But based on the liberals whining about it, I just might have to start. Don't liberals have the newer TV sets equipped with channel selectors and "off" switches like us neocons do? I can't wait for those sitcoms based on the wacky Iraq war like "M.A.S.H.". I say we send Olbermann one of these when they hit the stores this August. #10 - Posted by: Heather Y on January 17, 2007 08:07 PMHey, there is a travesty of justice happening that IMAO readers should know about. Check it out at http://www.grassfire.org/142/petition.asp #11 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on January 17, 2007 08:17 PMShow of hands here. Who else wants to see Slobbermann get chased by cougars? #12 - Posted by: ZK on January 17, 2007 11:57 PMAs someone who's spent a fair amount of time on an academic study of terrorism, I'd say 24 is fairly balanced. Take the issue of mass imprisonment of Muslims. The imprisonment was generally regarded as illegal/immoral, but also resulted in vital intelligence (the number of nukes). Then there's the issue of the neighbors from the generic All American Family. The father was, most likely, not a terrorist, but the son was running logistics for them. Then there's Assad. At this point in the season, at least, his allegiance is pretty hard to deny - he's doing all he can to stop the attacks for the time being, and it's hard to say he hasn't been a vital source of intelligence. 24 is certainly not realistic, nor great art, but it's fairly balanced - give and take on both sides. #13 - Posted by: postingfor1sttime on January 18, 2007 12:31 AMPost a comment
