10 Responses To "ACTION ALERT: Warm Feet"
Nope. Thanks for the reminder... err action alert... Better than the ones over at DU and DK though. #1 - Posted by: Jeff on February 13, 2007 10:32 PMThat was pathetic Frank. Let's talk about something actually interesting like the US Military telling producers of the show 24 that it is having a damaging effect on our troops. The United States Military Academy at West Point yesterday confirmed that Brigadier General Patrick Finnegan recently travelled to California to meet producers of the show, broadcast on the Fox channel. He told them that promoting illegal behaviour in the series - apparently hugely popular among the US military - was having a damaging effect on young troops. According to the New Yorker magazine, Gen Finnegan, who teaches a course on the laws of war, said of the producers: "I'd like them to stop. They should do a show where torture backfires... The kids see it and say, 'If torture is wrong, what about 24'? Guess 24 will soon fade away like the X Files and Alias, both far far better shows than 24. #2 - Posted by: Sarcasm Man on February 14, 2007 12:07 AMDon't pay him too much heed, Mr Fleming. He didn't really like 'The X-Files' as much as he liked 'Will & Grace'... there was a show he could really indentify with. He really thought that show correctly reflected mainstream America. But give him some credit; he is pretty high-functioning for having Down's Syndrome. #3 - Posted by: Sarcasm's Mom on February 14, 2007 12:48 AMDo we still have to remind people that TV isn't real? It's actors with scripted lines and plots. Who really believes that things are ok just because they saw them on TV? Even my 3-year old knows that "it's just imagination, Mom." #4 - Posted by: snarky on February 14, 2007 02:06 AMI recommend hip boots with those socks-the s*** is likely to get deep as she blames the world for her woes. #5 - Posted by: Writer on February 14, 2007 08:21 AMFrank -- many thanks for the warning! It's a little bit late, but it's spot on -- I'd run completely out of clean white socks last night and had to do emergency laundering to refresh. Maybe you really will get a big following for these action alerts. . . just don't let the power go to your head. Sarcasm Man -- when I go grocery shopping, I pass the store's "moneyboard" machine where they hand out coupons and shudder to think of all those poor unfortunate terrorists being moneyboarded, where the victim is slowly lowered into a pit of credit cards to induce a paniced feeling of overwhelming indebtedness. If you feel strongly about this, why not try to contact the troops yourself to discuss the issue directly with them? You may find them to be well reasoned individuals who simply wish to do their jobs well without resorting to illegal or underhanded tactics. Just be sure, with all the storms pounding across the U.S. right now, that your apartment isn't at a temperature extreme while you do it (and get plenty of sleep first so you're not sleep deprived.) #6 - Posted by: Capitalist_B on February 14, 2007 09:19 AMDammit, why didn't I see this yesterday? Now my feet itch. The level of trollitude has really declined while I've been gone. Sarcasm Hermaphrodite's the best you got now? I guess ChimpyMcBusHitlerHalliCheneyCo has finally put the good ones in camps. Except me. Me too smart to get rounded up. Hail Satan! Do we still have to remind people that TV isn't real? It's actors with scripted lines and plots. Who really believes that things are ok just because they saw them on TV? Even my 3-year old knows that "it's just imagination, Mom." We live in a country where, in the 1960s, the US Navy received regular and repeated letters, telegrams and phone calls from people complaining that "Seven Americans are stranded on a deserted island and you are doing nothing to save them." When a nation has people dumb enough to think that Gilligan's Island is a real-life documentary, are you surprised that they believe 24 is real, or that they vote for John "Stuck in Irak" Kerry? #9 - Posted by: keith on February 14, 2007 12:27 PMBack in the 1960's the schools were so busy teaching such ivory-tower stuff as arithmetic and reading, and they gave homework too, leaving people with no time to learn about TV not being real. Nowadays the schools aren't teaching all that stuff, so kids have plenty of time to find out that TV isn't real. #10 - Posted by: Wacky Hermit on February 15, 2007 08:14 AMPost a comment
