I Finally Have to Ask
Posted by Frank J. at 05:06 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (13)
The post button is pretty. I like to click it. Sometimes I type things first.
What is Eschaton?

I happened to head over there today because of an Ann Althouse post where she mentions how Duncan Black (a.k.a. Atrios) of Eschaton tried to fact check her on the most inane thing possible. Eschaton has been one of the most popular left-wing blogs since I first saw there were left-wing blogs, but it's never been able to keep my attention for more than a couple second scan. While most liberal blogs seem to be extremely wordy (Greenwald's blog is practically all words and no content), Eschaton has... well, nothing. It's like a bunch of sentence fragments with a link every few posts. If "Indeed" and "Heh" are just too verbose a commentary, Eschaton is the blog for you.

Here's one of yesterday's posts:

Memories

You know, the wingnutosphere was always populated by lunatic morons, but back in the old days we actually felt obliged to engage them. Now we just mock them.

Much better.

That's it. That's the whole post. There's no link that or discernible context that might make this clever. That's a whole "thought" he had and decided to share. And posts like that bring in nearly a hundred thousand unique visitors a day.

Sometimes I wonder if I should stop making fun of the left-wing blogosphere because it's equivalent to making fun of someone with a mental handicap. I don't want to be that kind of person.

I'm serious. It's something to think about.

UPDATE:

Okay. I'm not serious... but sometimes I like to pretend I am.

"Eschaton" is a word of Greek origin meaning "the end of the world". A somewhat more common word in English is "eschatology", which is the study of "the last things", e.g., death, salvation or damnation.

Eschaton's right though. Folks like Limbaugh were briefly taken seriously for a while after 9/11 when Bush's approval rating was high. But Bush has been a disaster, he got us stuck in Iraq, his poll numbers fell to around 30% and now there is growing concern about the dollar and stock market. The Bush administration's massive borrowing from China to fund the Iraq war is catching up with us. Thanks to Bush people who think like Limbaugh have lost pretty much all credibility.

P.S. Sometimes Instapundit writes short posts too and yet he has many readers which is wrong and unfair because Frank writes many words and yet does not get as much traffic or adsense bux.

It's never cricket to engage in a battle of wits when the opposition is unarmed. Left "wingnutso's" can't usually write a coherent sentence much less a paragraph. There is no appeal to logic or reason, because they (libs) never let the facts inhibit their opinions.

I try never to visit Lefty bloggers because they are verbally retarded and linguistically lewd. There are just some standards of civilization that shouldn't be compromised.

Station managers and advertisers find Limbaugh and his 600 markets most credible, SUPERDUD. Did Air America send you that tin foil hat yet? It really pulls it in...

How long did you last when you were there?
Usually about three minutes before my skin starts to crawl, myself...

Sarcasm Man -- it is not the brevity but the intellectual content or lack thereof that distinguishes a post. Frank's comment is that the post he borrowed has no point -- or at least to the degree that it could hypothetically make one, it totally fails to defend it. Either you knee-jerk or you say "huh?!" Your posts in this thread are better examples of intelligent rational discourse.

Frank J: it's been a while since you've done that "reads the Bible" series. It's right in there, in the book of Proverbs; the fastest and easiest way to find the Bible contradicting itself, two contradictory verses right in a row (and I forget the exact location and paraphrase, but):

Argue with a fool according to his folly, lest he seem wise in his own eyes
Do not argue with a fool according to his folly, lest he bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Good luck decyphering that one!

I'd just like to point out that there is always concern about the dollar and the stock market. After yesterday's market correction, you can find articles all over the web about how it's been a long time since the previous correction. This has been a huge bull market. Does the President deserve all the credit for that? No, but you only hear bad news about the economy from the MSM, even in this historically long bull market.

You don't want to be that kind of person? Look Frank, one of the biggest problems today is that most people cannot call a retard a retard. Not that you personally tell the retard himself that. But to write about a retard and not call him a retard is just stupid. If you don't want to call a retard a retard then don't write about retards, that's all.

We're not mentally retarded, we're special.

Smart.

Tough.

We're so great, Sarcasm Man and I get to go to special school our own special, short bus.

And you're just jealous of us, like you're jealous of Air America's incredible success! At least, that's what I read in the NYT.

Hail Satan!
