Iran Upset about 300
Posted by spacemonkey at 06:04 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (19)

Was it because of the lack of Spartan breastplates? Was it because they enjoyed the lack of Spartan breastplates?

Was it because it makes Democrats appeasers look bad? Appeasee's hate it when appeasers get ridiculed.

Maybe it was the ticket prices. Long lines at the concession stand? Popcorn too salty?

Wait just a minute. How have Iranians even SEEN this movie? It just got released in the states. One almost gets the feeling they know the story and are mad because its probably accurate.

As if we needed any further proof the bad guys (Democrats, libs, and leftards, oh my!) are giving aid and comfort to the enemy - the enemy hasn't likely seen the movie, but takes their cue from the bad guys here who have seen it and are bitching to beat the band. I have a leftarded friend who already made comments to me about how "funny" it is this movie has come out now, seeing as how the Persians of the story 300 are the Iranians today, and how it must just be to get the American masses whipped up for an attack on Iran. Sheesh!

Just saw it last night. The only way it could be MORE awesome is if it had Lee Marvin, Chuck Norris and Fred Thompson in the cast.

But seriously, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the theater was 3/4 full on a Tuesday night. This, in lefty bohemian Santa Barbara, with the hippies buying organic apples at the farmer's market on the street opposite the front door. No protesters or hippie vitriol outside (quite common here), and people were raving about the movie as they left the theater.

FINALLY!!! One of you guys got this on the board as it deserves! I love-ed you, spacemonkey!!

Anyway, yeah this movie really pissed off the modern persians, maybe they'll riot in their city streets and set fire to cars in france or sumthin.

This movie was so beautifully savage, just made me want some rare steak afterwards and join the Marines so I could learn to kill the enemy with my bare hands. The really funny thing was a muslim couple sat next to me and my hubby, the lady sitting beside to me to wrestle over the armrest. Anyway, when the Spartan queen replies to the woman-hating diplomat from persia, "Only Spartan Women birth REAL men" I hooted "YEAH!!" and the muslim lady next to me had a short shock of hissy-ness.

I left this movie wishing I could resurrect Leonidas's wife and turn her loose with a sword on OUR Congress.

I saw some yammering "Hollywood reporter" going on about how violent and graphic the movie was, and this obviously means that graphic violent movies are back in now.
Well it was as violent as a Stanley Cup game, NFL playoffs, UFC pay per view, 3 Daytona 500’s and one PTA meeting all rolled into one. But the left-coast lulu had no concept of loyalty, courage, honor and sacrifice, the real reason we recall the fate of 300 men more than 2000 years after.

This is PC idiocy to the extreme! Pick any movie that shows a conflict of any kind and you are going to find that one side is "the good guys" and one side is "the bad guys". Maybe I just don't remember, but where was all this outrage and general pissiness from England when Braveheart came out? The English were portrayed pretty badly but I don't recall any ridiculous worry that suddenly people were going to start hating on English people and beating them up at random on the streets. If they don't like the movie, don't see it. I didn't especially like the premise of Brokeback Mountain so I didn't go see it. It's that simple.

I Leonidas after seeing that movie. Sure, it was a stylized, not-quite-accurate version of one the most famous last stands in history, but it was frakking awesome! Who cares if the Iranians have their panties in a wad over a movie... it's not like anyone is claiming that 300 is a documentary or anything.

I think I might just go see it again, just to piss some more Iranians off.

#6 - Posted by: Anna V. on March 14, 2007 11:30 PM

I meant to type 'I heart Leonides' there. Somehow, that whole word went missing. Wierd.

One word for you: Bootleg.

When I was "over there" I was watching movies bought at Haji Wal-Mart (the bizarres) before they ever came out in the states. Sure you heard coughing and people got up in the middle of the flick and walked around in front of the screen, but dammit, I was the first kid on my block to see "Batman Begins". Our interpreters didn't like "Team America"--go figure! Of course they thought "Titanic" was the best movie EVER. EVER!

300 received a standing ovation at the end, and numerous "Hooah" and "Hoo-Rah" yells from the theater I was in. There are tons of active duty, G&R, and retired in my current neck of the woods.

Funny, isn't it? A movie (entertainment) is violent and brutal and dirty and scary, but an abortion (reality) is okay to these folks. I'm really glad I can't identify with that mind-set.

300 hits theaters....and muslims are offended.

That about sums up the difference between left and right...fake violence is bad, but real violence is okay against babies and our soldiers.

#10 - Posted by: Mrs. Who on March 15, 2007 12:22 AM

Snarky, it is simple.
Actually, the difference with Braveheart, is that the critics thought we in the U.S. would identify with the English (as the large country oppressors), and therefore not take it to heart. They thought that it would make us more humble in our relations to other countries. I think they forgot how many Scottish and Irish ancestors we (Americans) have.

#11 - Posted by: Writer on March 15, 2007 09:21 AM

Didn't we already cover this story?

I don't know if the movie is great, but it's pretty darn good. The stop-action fight scenes annoyed me. But you have to love any movie with a war-rhino. Our rinos are mostly anti-war.

#12 - Posted by: Veeshir on March 15, 2007 09:50 AM

Hello! Persians were still Pagan at the time of the battle with the Spartans. Why would Muslims get upset about infidels dying and being portrayed as louts? Oh, I forgot it was probably related to the massive land grab by Zionists. But were the Jews in Egypt at the time? Maybe we can get a comment from some Islamic terrorist that has memorized every transgression of the Jews since that incident with the snake in the garden. Oh, that was in Babylon I think...Whatever…I’m going back to the Idol post

#13 - Posted by: Vercingetrix on March 15, 2007 11:56 PM

I think the only Persian I might attack is anyone that sounds like Xerxes. I think he was a Gua'uld.

Where's SG-1 when you need them!?

#14 - Posted by: Kevin D. on March 16, 2007 11:33 AM

Holy crap... That is long after Ra was forced off Earth and the Stargate buried. Hopefully they'll time travel again and kick Xerxes' ass. Because, I mean, anyone with that scratchy voice deserves an ass kicking from SG-1 before its over.

Maybe they saw this picture:

I'd be offended if my ancestors were involved in something like that.

you are all [pejorative for physical relations - ed]- ing idiots...read a book

[ed- That's your opinion, but I'd recommend you learn some punctuation and capitalization. Read a textbook.]

I agree with the last comment...

"That about sums up the difference between left and right...fake violence is bad, but real violence is okay against babies and our soldiers."

I believe the lefties are the ones who are rallying to get our soldiers home safe.

Also..the Muslim comment by shimauma? Ignorant. I'm glad someone corrected her that Persians were pagans at that point. And are you a Greek or something?

#17 - Posted by: Leonidas on March 18, 2007 12:03 AM

You mean the insurgents/terrorists?

So, the couple next to Shimauma at the movie were pagans not Muslims? Wow, how could you tell that from what she said? Are you clairvoyant or something?

I thought it was just me! I kept waiting for the eye-flashing thing.
