Happy Armenian Genocide Day!
Posted by RightWingDuck at 12:41 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (17)

Okay. Maybe not happy.

On this day in 1915, 1.5 million Armenians were slaughtered, left to starve, or thrown out of their country.

It was almost as bad as Guantanamo Prison.

I was reading somewhere that no US President has ever actually used the "G" word. I couldn't help but wonder why. Are we afraid to offend Turkey because they are an ally?

After all, we are allies with Germany and we openly acknowledge the Holocaust.

It's just not right.

Anyway, to all our readers who are Armenian, we at IMAO would like to say that the slaughter of so many lives byt the then Ottoman Empire was horrible.

Yes, senseless slaughter is horrible. It's controversial, but we at IMAO are taking a stand.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide
Countries officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide include Argentina[70], Armenia[71], Austria, Belgium[72], Canada[73], Cyprus[72], France[67], Greece[72], Italy[72], Lebanon, Lithuania[72], The Netherlands, Poland[74], Russia[72], Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland[72], Uruguay[72], Vatican City and Venezuela. Although part of the United Kingdom, Wales[72] also officially recognizes the Armenian Genocide.

Maybe for once you neocons won't call us Europeans "eurabians" or "surrenders".

P.S. best Armenian ever: http://maddox.xmission.com/

Actually, we'll still call you "Eurabians."

We will until your governments can confront the riotous "youths."

#2 - Posted by: RightWingDuck on April 24, 2007 01:11 PM

Also, please notice, that Turkey - the country that perpetrated that genocide - does not acknowledge it. It reminds me of another muslim country that does not acknowledge the Armenian and Jewish genocides. (hint: it starts with an "I" and has short and squinty PM).

In fact, in Turkey it is against the law even to mention it.

@ RightWingDuck: mah. I don't see what riotous youths have to do with Islam. It's a common mistake that the riot in French banlieus were set up by muslims (if you're referring to that).

Ahh...looks like we have found ourselves a euro-moonbat to munch on :P

#5 - Posted by: James on April 24, 2007 01:32 PM

Emiliano, nobody said the riotous "youths" were muslim. What made you think that?

#6 - Posted by: on April 24, 2007 01:34 PM

The Armenians are a hearty breed. The first official Christian nation (A.D. 301), they number some 3 million, surrounded by 50 million Muslims (who are all called "Turks" by Armenians).

I used to go out with an Armenian girl. Sweet kid, but not The Clean One...

America does not recognize the Armenian Holocaust because several US citizens were involved, including the nephew of then-powerful US Senator George W. Norris of Nebraska. It is reported that young Thad Norris was responsible for burning at least three dozen women and children alive in their village church.

Typical American.

"Emiliano, nobody said the riotous "youths" were muslim. What made you think that?"

The fact that, in RightWingNut's world, europeans are "eurabians" (which I always supposed to be a crasis of European and Arab, referring to the "softness" of european countries towards islamic ones) because they can't confront riotous youths.

@ James: thank you, I learnt a new term. I discover from Wikipedia it came from an Heinlein's novel, which I actually read; can you tell me what is the connection between bats from the Moon and political extremism? And does it have something to do with the "Nuke The Moon banner"? And what's with this obsession of eating people from other countries? Is'nt that a sexual metaphor?
I'm longing to learn.

"Almost as bad as Guantanamo Prison"?!

They get free prayer rugs, stuffed sofas, those free little bottles of shampoo and bars of soap, room service, a Koran in the nightstand, and a free continental breakfast at Hotel Gitmo!

I for one never call them Eurabians.

I call them either EUniks or EUnuchs.

How does "recognizing" the genocide mean anything? Except that the EUnuchs in times past were masters of genocide (they just used to call them "pogroms") so possibly are better able to "recognize" genocide.

Stopping genocide, now that would mean something. But then, since EUnuchstan is so far away from Kosovo and Serbia and what-not, it was obviously up to the US to stop that little genocidal endeavor.

QUOTE:"...there was a dramatic rise in Islamic fundamentalist agitation throughout Turkey. Christian Armenians were once again branded as infidels (non-believers in Islam).

Young Islamic extremists, sometimes leading to violence, staged anti-Armenian demonstrations. During one such outbreak in 1909, two hundred villages were plundered and over 30,000 persons massacred..."

See? It's their own fault for being persistently Christian! Just like now!

They needed a Reid/Pelosi/Murtha team to negotiate for them.

That woulda fixed it!

Just askin'.

For the record, I do not recall ever reading "Eurabians" in the comments at IMAO and certainly not by any of the bloggers.

Emiliano

“And what's with this obsession of eating people from other countries? Is'nt that a sexual metaphor?”

I believe that was my contribution to the debate or maybe Duck came up with it first. I'm not sure anymore. Anyway, since there’s a concern about global warming and the need to cut back on carbon dioxide emissions I thought as a good citizen and Republican that I should suggest some feasible solution. Since the topic of carbon offsets came up, I suggested that eating people might in fact by far the most efficient way of reducing the total human footprint on the earth. The benefits of such a literal approach aren’t obvious to all it seems. As a liberal minded person you have taken this as a callous neo-colonialist assault against poor people in third world countries. I can assure you that this is not just a hostile assault on the poor. It's a far more general assault upon humanity. I have pointed out that eating a rich people is worth many times as many carbon offsets than third world impoverished people. Eating liberal wind bags and annoying socialists of course has multiple benefits. I haven’t yet threatened to devour any other commenter but let me warn you of the dangers of masquerading about as a Portuguese hot dog. A mistake you shouldn't repeat.

As far a sexual innuendo is concerned, obviously you are unfamiliar with the IMAO archives (Yes, this site used to be hilarious). You seem to think that the mere suggestion of sexual innuendo will get all the social conservatives around here all bent out of shape. You’re obviously unaware of our many explorations of the degenerate sex lives of ninja’s and gay comic super heroes. Can you lay claim to have intimate knowledge of the concubine of death and actually survived to tell the tale. No you can't. So shut your trap.

One day the Armenians will make the Turks their Ottoman.
