Every poll I've read has every Republican candidate beating every Democrat candidate in the general election regardless of the combination. There might have been one combination that produced a tie. Since W isn't running again, his approval rating hardly matters. What counts is that he sticks to his guns despite his unpopularity, something he has shown ample courage to do.

Re: Fred Thompson, polls this early are worthless--everybody would recognize him when they see him on camera, nobody knows his name. You might as well ask "would you rather vote for Hillary or the guy you bought coffee from this morning?" Still an interesting question, but it doesn't really tell you anything.

The thing I like here is that Bush is doing this badly, he has a 28% approval rating . . . and yet - at worst - our top two guys are in the margin of error of your top two guys . . . and you're happy about this? Hey, maybe if there's a nuclear explosion and Bush gets a 5% approval rating you guys can actually pull ahead.

Yet again, the left continues to campaign against Bush in '08... the funniest part of SM's original post is that he's associating Bush with "far right whackos", when in fact we on the "far right" dropped Bush like a smelly gym sock a number of years ago, when it became clear that he wasn't going to stand up to big-government wasteful spenders (NCLB, anyone?) or the open-borders lobby. The best thing any of the *actual* '08 GOP candidates can do to garner support from the "far right" is to distance themselves from Bush on most of his domestic policies. Give us somebody who won't buckle if the Beltway establishment tries to accuse them of "slashing childrens' programs' budgets" when they threaten to veto spending *increases* -- please!
