Just When You Thought They'd Hit Bottom, Out Come the Shovels
According to the latest Gallup Poll, Congress's approval rating has sunk to a historic low of 14%. In order to help put that into perspective, here are a list of things that - as of this week - are now more popular than Congress: * Fungus * Boils * Burnt toast * Drunk drivers * Drunk dialers * DMV employees * Personal injury lawyers * Hangnails * Hangovers * Spammers * Yipping Yorkies * Gas Prices * Geico (among cavemen) * Susan B. Anthony dollars * Retaining water * Stepping in poo * Blue Screen of Death * Power outages * Voldemort * Nose hair * Soap scum * Earwigs 18 Responses To "Just When You Thought They'd Hit Bottom, Out Come the Shovels"
Also more popular than Congress Congress is more popular than Hitler? They must not have had a representative sample of the population. #2 - Posted by: Gunga on July 19, 2007 04:26 PMAlso pulling ahead of Congress: deer ticks, wet Levi's, men in bicycle shorts, Erik Estrada, Bill O'Reilly's Snotty Smirk, reruns of The Love Boat, Billy Mays commercials, gristle and Andy Dick (barely) #3 - Posted by: PaleoMedic on July 19, 2007 04:48 PMAmazingly for being the "new Thomas Jefferson", Ron Paul is still less popular than a Congress full of comment spamming personal injury lawyers spreading genital warts. #4 - Posted by: Brian The Adequate on July 19, 2007 05:05 PMThough still behind, I hear that castration with a rusty soup can lid is .01% away from topping Congress. #5 - Posted by: DesertElephant on July 19, 2007 05:33 PMthis really makes me think of that Monty Python song, "All Things Dull and Ugly" ... it pretty much sums up the Dems. #6 - Posted by: Estella on July 19, 2007 07:38 PM*In-Laws... Also ahead of Congress * Referring to sex as 'making whoopy' * Commercials for 'Head-On' Apply directly to the forehead * That guy with the crazy suit covered in question marks and goofy glasses that yells about free government money #9 - Posted by: ChrisA on July 19, 2007 09:25 PMI believe Islamic Extremists even beat out congress cuz they're raised that way and DemocrASSES have NO excuse. #10 - Posted by: Nutzoid on July 19, 2007 10:09 PMWhy did you just bash the 1/2 Hour News Hour? Are you becoming a liberal, Harvey? #11 - Posted by: Sir Andrew on July 20, 2007 01:47 AMWhy? 1) Because it's received lousy reviews even from conservative blogs. 2) The sketches I've seen so far are slow-paced, poorly scripted, and predictable. If the 1/2 Hour has any amusing sketches, please drop a YouTube link in the comments. #12 - Posted by: Harvey on July 20, 2007 07:07 AMYou catch congress by walking court street with a 50 dollar bill. #13 - Posted by: Ringmaster on July 20, 2007 07:09 AMYou left Aquaman and Vlad the Impaler off the list. The good news is that Congress is still slightly more popular than Caligula, Ron Paul or being held down screaming while your face is peeled off. #14 - Posted by: on July 20, 2007 09:41 AMI gotta agree, with the exception of a couple of good one liners (not good enough for me to remember, apparently), the 1/2 hour news hour was pretty uninspiring #15 - Posted by: Rick on July 20, 2007 09:58 AMI couldn't help but notice that cat blogging was not listed as being more popular than Congress. #16 - Posted by: Son of Bob on July 20, 2007 11:00 AMFunny thing with HHNH is that it *is* just barely worse than congressional approval ratings: 12% Metacritic score vs 14% for Congress. Of course, the Metacritic score is a bit off, since some of the reviews don't give a score at all yet are counted as 0% (which of course brings the percentage way down). Still, I do not hear good things. The clip about "Gun Free Zones" from earlier this week was pretty good, though -- maybe they're improving? #17 - Posted by: James on July 20, 2007 12:15 PMI do believe Caligula, Tiberius, Nero, and even Heliogabolus all hovered between 15 and 17% approval at their lowest points, thus beating out Congress in popularity. Actually, Nero was considered something of a populist, and loved spending for the amusement of the people, all the while harming the poor (burning down the poorest sections of Rome as a prime example thereof), alternately blaming it on his political enemies and claiming it was for their own good because the slums were dirty. At least that's how Peter Ustinov portrayed it in Quo Vadis! #18 - Posted by: Estella on July 21, 2007 11:27 AMPost a comment
