Fear Not the Snowman
Posted by Frank J. at 10:31 AM | View blog reactions | Comments (24)

There's talk that some Republicans will skip the YouTube debate on CNN because it's undignified. They could get asked questions by puppets or Chris Matthews which is really stupid for a presidential debate. Also, there's some fears that CNN will use it as an excuse to ask questions they know they'd normally get in trouble for asking ("We didn't ask that; it was the person on screen so don't get angry at us."). Still, I think the Republicans should go. One thing Republicans are supposed to be used to is a hostile media, so they should go this debate and be ready for shenanigans. If CNN puts up a really stupid question, then publicly call them out on it; Republican love seeing journalists get their comeuppance. If the question is really horrible, pop someone right in the mouth (doesn't matter who as long as he's a reporter). And if it's just unbelievably awful, then pull down Anderson Cooper's pants and take a picture of his penis (he hates that).

It would be undignified. The Dems did it, didn't they?

I'm convinced that when some future historian writes about the downfall of western civilization, Volume 1 will be "Reality TV", and Volume 2 will be "YouTube."

If they can't handle a mere sock puppet, then how are they going to face Al Qaeda and the Democrats?

If they are weely scared, then they could bring their own sock puppet to give the answers.

#2 - Posted by: reality intrudes on July 31, 2007 10:41 AM

I like the idea of the Republicans using sockpuppets for the debate. Can we pick who gets which one?

#3 - Posted by: wcgreen on July 31, 2007 11:04 AM

Is it just me, or is IMAO getting bombed more and more by the liberally oriented agents provocateurs? Frank, you got their attention, so you must be doing something right.

"reality" intrudes,
I think you're missing the point. Sure, they'll lose face with people who already don't like them, but if they were to go the sock puppet route the Republicans will lose face with their base. Screw the snowmen. Its beneath the party, and it should be beneath any candidate with a sense of dignity to answer. It isn't a matter of fearing the Democrats. It is impossible to fear the insubstantial. In case you haven't noticed, the fearsome liberal democrats step into their own ideological droppings every other week or so, sparing us from having to push them in. And as far as your comment about fearing Al Qaeda goes... WHAT? Turn off Jerry Springer and read a newspaper. The Republicans are not the ones tripping on their own tails in their hyped and self-flagellating clamor to surrender.

#4 - Posted by: BigBadUnderdog on July 31, 2007 11:09 AM

They definitely need to go. Did saying, "That's the dumbest question I've ever been asked," become a hate crime? For crying out loud, Frank J and SarahK could script every answer in advance. Actually, "So's your face!" works in almost any situation. Pretending it's below their dignity is shameless. They're running for President. They have no dignity.

#5 - Posted by: Gunga on July 31, 2007 11:11 AM

Okay, I think I stepped over the line with the Jerry Springer comment, and now I feel bad.
Here is why I am opposed to the YouTube debate:
http://www.democrats.com/cnn-censors-impeachment-youtube
The moonbats will come out in force loaded with stupidity like this. There is a difference between presenting yourself before the people and jumping into a barrel of fish intent on getting the conservatism shot out of you. Its appeasement to answer even one such question, and we will be ambushed by the network that presents it. Better to appear apathetic than to dress up in a clown suit and let the liberal media honk our red rubber noses over and over.
Okay, I'm done.

#6 - Posted by: BigBadUnderdog on July 31, 2007 11:21 AM

I'm hoping that American fake spacemonkey submits a question.

#7 - Posted by: Chris on July 31, 2007 11:23 AM

One of the biggest reasons that the Republicans are avoiding the Snowman is that they already committed to the "Values Voters" debate ON THE SAME DATE!!! Utube didn't schedule the snowman date until AFTER the date was set for the Values debate (which wasn't set until after they had some committment from the candidates), probably just to make Republicans look bad by not showing. More liberal scamming and scheming.

#8 - Posted by: ccso8462 on July 31, 2007 11:35 AM

Not crazy about the Utube debate idea...this whole thing has been leaning more and more toward "circus" territory. When Hillery did the what's my "song" thing, it all went over the line. This isn't American Idol, fer crying out loud. It is supposed to be a presidential election. You know, issues and leadership and all that.

#9 - Posted by: neocon cowgirl on July 31, 2007 12:28 PM

Thanks ccso8462! That explains a lot.

If they don't debate, they appear to be humorless elite snobs who can't laugh at themselves or face unexpected questions or situations.

Fred would handle it.

Is it just me, or is IMAO getting bombed more and more by the liberally oriented agents provocateurs?

It's probably just left-overs from the "Sadly No!" link yesterday, but the better the website gets, the more it annoys liberals, the more of them there will be. It's one of the few times these guys will encounter people who'll actually argue with them over their viewpoints (as seen from the lack of responses a lot of them have when challenged), so, depending on the poster, I get a kick out of it.

If nothing else, we have a great new bloggy buzzword, the Snowman. Fear the Snowman. Avoid the Snowman. Cool.

#13 - Posted by: PaleoMedic on July 31, 2007 01:02 PM

Hey! Big Bad Underdog - You called me liberal? Hah!

My dream ticket is Fred for President and Duncan Hunter for VP.

Both of them could handle Al Qaeda or the Democrats. They would just laugh at sock puppets, and at Move On, and all the other jokers out there. There's no such thing as a question they could not handle.

Maybe I'm actually glad it happened now so that the weaker Republicans and Rinos have their weakness exposed before Fred enters.

Sorry, but latest troll infusion is MY fault. As one of the few conservatives that posts on the Lois and Clark fanfic messageboard, I like to link humorous Frankj posts in the "off topic" folder, hoping to expand their minds with some brilliant wit.

Well it's been brought to my attention to stop doing this as some of the more liberal members have gotten their feelings hurt coming to this board and getting a huge, mean, slap of reality/humor. Now that they know how to get here they're probably going to interject their libtard criticism as much as they can.

I should have realized a website deifying a pair of NEWS JOURNALISTS would have this sort of result and will gladly submit myself to whatever punishment my Benevolent Overlord Kal El deems needful.

#15 - Posted by: shimauma on July 31, 2007 01:38 PM

Reality Intrudes,
When I use that word, I certainly mean it as an insult, so since you aren't a lib you have my apologies. It seems the only disagreement we may have is on the VP nomination. I still like to hope Fred Thompson would campaign with Julius Caesar Watts of Oklahoma.

#16 - Posted by: BigBadUnderdog on July 31, 2007 02:12 PM

Thanks Big Bad Underdog.

Julius Cesar Watts is a good guy too. I like Duncan Hunter in part because he helps to spread out the ticket over both the south and the west. Duncan has a son in Iraq and has had the libs after him in earnest for years so he is tough, can stand up for us and himself, and is as clean as a whistle. If anything happened to Fred medically, Duncan would be a great backup.

Screw the EweTube debate crap. Via HotAir, I was watching some perky li'l blond chick doing a Tube-esque video berating Republican candidates who don't want to do it by saying that the Dem's did it, so why won't you & what a great oppourtinity it would be to win people like her over, as she was still "undecided", yadda yadda yadda.

The tube top, schoolgirl glasses & stuffed animals on her bed in the background were a bit too conspicuous. I'm guessing that she does her own "pay per view" stuff on the side.

#18 - Posted by: AlanABQ on July 31, 2007 03:06 PM

LOL. The GOP chickens fear YouTube and questions from people. They can only handle scripted questions. Maybe Dick Cheney will hold their hands like he did for Bush when he had to answer questions during the 9/11 investigation. Bush: "Oh please please hold my hand Dick I'm so scared. I can't go alone."

#19 - Posted by: Giant Tool Boy on July 31, 2007 03:25 PM

LOL Sarcasm Man gets his news from a comedy site!

#20 - Posted by: Not Sarcasm Man on July 31, 2007 03:32 PM

Just because CNN wants it doesn't mean we have to do it.

Just say no.

They look like trained seals. Nothing intelligent or substantial happens there.

Rise to loftier goals.

#21 - Posted by: sunrise on July 31, 2007 04:16 PM

President Cheney.

*sigh*

A right-winger can dream, can't he?

Anyway, I am quite opposed to the whole "debate by YouTube" idea. It's utterly ridiculous.

First, the only people who matter are citizens of The United States, citizens who are above 18 years of age and who have no hindrance on their ability to vote.

Second, all sorts of meme-spreading idiots are on YouTube. They don't want to debate. They want to rant and to be accepted as the Unquestionable Fonts of Truth, Verily And Yea. They won't tolerate hearing common sense, dismissing all common sense as right-wing propagandery. We should not waste time with them.

Third, a true debate or forum of questions and answers involves some measure of follow-up, which is impossible given the format of the YouTube project.

Instead, politicians and demagogues (the good ones) should use YouTube, and other such modern, new-fangled thingies, to present speeches and addresses -- dare I say: even firesides -- to the people. Use it as a form of informing us and speaking to us.

"Fear Not the Snowman"

You could almost write a song based on that title.
-but only if you have just the right amount of cowbell.

Bob, just the right amount is MORE COWBELL!
