Ronin Profiles: NMUSpidey

NMUSpidey
Let's meet some more IMAO readers. Today, it's NMUSpidey.

* * * *

What's the story behind your name? I earned my BA at Northern Michigan University and I like Spider-Man.

Where do you live? Currently, Toledo, OH. But in less than 5 days, Osaka, Japan.

How old are you? More than 25, less than 27.

Tell us briefly about yourself. Well, I am engaged to a ninja, I will be teaching English in Japan, and I love comic books.

What's the most suspicious thing you've ever seen a monkey do? Wear The Man's big yellow hat.

How long have you been reading IMAO? Something like 5 years, maybe? 4? They all run together, you know.

What's your favorite IMAO post? I really like "IMAO Condensed." But I also like "Know Thy Enemy" and anything that is like "Fun Facts About."

What's you favorite political issue? Hm. I would say shrinking the government. They should be worried about bombing small countries filled with sand while we worry about our lunches.

Do you have a website? If so, please tell us briefly about it. I have started a couple blogs, but I'm horribly unmotivated and find myself never updating. EVER. Also, a myspace page. Just try and guess the address!

[I guessed it! -Ed.]

Who would win in a fight between Aquaman and Spider-Man? What if it were underwater? While it is possible that Aquaman could summon flying fish to throw at Spider-Man, the reality is that he would probably see the black spider on the red and blue costume (or the big white spider on the black costume: my favorite) and run screaming in terror, John Edwards style. Underwater, the costume may just be obscured by the water and lack of light to allow Aquaman a few quick punches before he trips over himself and Lex Luthor and the Legion of Doom capture him and Spider-Man has to come to the rescue.

If you commented that you want to be included before, you're still in the running. You can also comment in this post; just make sure you fill in your e-mail on the comment form (only I can see it so you don't have to worry about getting spam). Eventually we'll get to everyone. Thanks to everyone who has participated so far!

Spidey looks a bit like Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000 (with much shorter hair) in some of his Myspace pics. Weird.

Enjoy Japan. Now there's a society that understands capitalism. You should be in hog heaven.

Wish you two all the best in Japan, NMUSpidey. Your myspace was cool, especially the band, made me think of a Japanese Joe Strummer singing lead for Rancid.

That's cool that you're going to Japan to teach, Spidey. I have a friend from here who did something similar & I understand that learning Japanese is no easy task.

Sayonara, Ronin!

Count me in, Frank! I was waiting for more people to say they had a myspace page so I wouldn't be embarrassed.

#4 - Posted by: CO of Fort Housewife on August 3, 2007 08:12 PM

Excellent! Spidey would totally kick AquaQueer's ass!

#5 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on August 3, 2007 08:32 PM

But in less than 5 days, Osaka, Japan.

I will be teaching English in Japan,

THIS IS SO COOL!! I'm so jealous. Japanese is the coolest language ever! Tanoshinde Kudasai!!! Dewa nochihodo!

#6 - Posted by: shimauma on August 3, 2007 08:37 PM

Spiderman, Lex Luther, the nefarious Aquafina Man... No one ever mentions Batman. I mean, BATMAN!!! The Fred Thompson of DC Comics!

#7 - Posted by: BigBadUnderdog on August 3, 2007 08:45 PM

Wow! You get to go to Japan...my life's dream.... Have fun man, and good luck!

#8 - Posted by: Luipaard on August 3, 2007 10:00 PM

NMUSpidey, if MySpace wasn't the epitome of evil, I would friend you; you have the best taste in music videos.

Have fun in Osaka. But . . . what if you start picking up Osaka-ben? o_O; Then what?!!!

#9 - Posted by: ochagirl on August 3, 2007 10:03 PM

Great Post, NMUSpidey. Good luck in Japan. Two favorite Spidey comics "Spiderman versus Superman" (Cost 2 bucks, had to save forever) and the "What if" when Spidey joined the Fantastic Four.

#10 - Posted by: hwy93 on August 3, 2007 11:11 PM

Oh, and Frank, I'm still in, right?

#11 - Posted by: hwy93 on August 3, 2007 11:14 PM

Heh. I look like King Leonidas. As you can tell from my pictures I'm built like him, too.

Capitalism rules, even more than spellcheck.

Thank you all for the kind words, I will most certainly have a great time in Japan. I'll still be reading here and posting from time to time as well.

The punk band is the Blue Hearts. They are pretty cool. My fiancee's dad really likes them.

Yes, Japanese is fairly difficult. Muzukashii.

Haha, I only have like 4 friends on myspace. I'm not in high school anymore, so the whole popularity contest thing some people use it for is lost on me.

Heh, Aquaqueer. Although I issued a challenge during the last Aquaman post wherein people came up with clever things to substitute for the "man" part of his name. My personal favorites were "Aquaxanthous" and "AquaKerry."

Tanoshimi! Ittekimasu!

Batman is the man. You read any of Grant Morrison's JLAs from the late 1990s? Dang, that's some good stuff. Batman just rules. Next to Spider-Man, of course!

Thanks for even more kind words and well-wishes!

I do love my taste in music as well. The Ulfuls just rule. They are, of course, from Osaka, so if I manage to pick up some Osaka-ben (no small task might I remind you!) I'll just fit right in!

Matane!

Haha, Spider-Man vs Superman, now THERE'S a fair fight. I wish I had read that before my last day of work at the comic shop, because I totally would have looked that up and read it!

#13 - Posted by: NMUSpidey on August 3, 2007 11:25 PM

Best wishes for you in Japan. It's on my rather short list of places I want to visit outside the US. You are one of the more intimidating commentors on IMAO, given your sharp wit, and it took me a rather long time to summon the courage to publicize my idioticy to the world.

#14 - Posted by: PaleoMedic on August 4, 2007 12:41 AM

BTW, Spider Man was always my favorite sooper hero. He had the right combination of super powers and gigantic carbon steel balls, which made him much more real than SuperMan or the Green Lantern.

#15 - Posted by: PaleoMedic on August 4, 2007 12:43 AM

When in Japan don't ever eat meat on a stick from a street vendor.

Ever.

Also don't wear sunglasses. The Japanese mafia do.

Have fun, NMUSpidey.

Oh and don't eat the puffer fish If not prepared correctly, it'll kill you.

#16 - Posted by: spacemonkey on August 4, 2007 12:52 AM

Ulfuls . . . Okay! I have a new favorite J band! Thanks, NMUSpidey!

#17 - Posted by: ochagirl on August 4, 2007 01:48 AM

Bwahahah! "Carbon steel balls!" I can't say I've ever actually heard that particular phrase, but I love it. And yeah, as much as I read DC these days, Marvel characters just seem cooler and more "real." For comic book superheroes, that is;)

Thanks for the advice, Spacemonkey. I've heard the puffer fish thing before. They have to have special licenses in order to serve it, like beer I guess.

You're welcome, Ochagirl!

#18 - Posted by: NMUSpidey on August 4, 2007 08:12 AM

Well it looks like I've violated two of Monkey's suggestions: I've bought chicken on a stick in Niko, and I wore sunglasses.
But how likely is it an American wearing sunglasses in Japan will be mistaken for Yakuza?

BTW, if I haven't said so before, I'll do a profile.

#19 - Posted by: Bob in Feenicks on August 5, 2007 05:18 PM

Wouldn't Spiderman just hit Aquaman with a web line and toss him onto a dock somewhere? I mean, thats how fishing spiders do it. Even spiderman's lame villans could take out Aquaman.

I imagine sitting in the bay, planning to take out the Shocker, when all the sudden stilt man steps on his head or that gangster Hammerhead falls on him.

#20 - Posted by: the brain on August 6, 2007 08:28 AM

Bob in Feenicks, many things taste like chicken. Thing that live in alleys, things that live in sewers.

#21 - Posted by: spacemonkey on August 6, 2007 09:59 AM

It was the best damn rat I've ever eaten!

But if it was actually chicken, it was just OK.
