Need To Get This Off My Chest
Posted by Harvey at 09:41 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (20)

One important fact overlooked by Obama's persistent nattering about how we never should've gone into Iraq.

Uday and Qusay are dead.

Saddam may or may not ever started dealing wholesale with terrorists, but you can bet his boys - in their effort to outshine their father's brutal and stupid legacy - would've ramped up the anti-American rhetoric and followed it with action, whether covert or overt.

The war was worth it, if for no other reason than removing the region from the shadow of an insufferable Hussein dynasty.

I mean Harvey. (jees, I gotta read better!)

#2 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 12, 2007 10:31 PM

On the other hand, if you had simply done as the entire rest of the world instructed you to, and been friendly to Iraq, dropping the genocidal sanctions and allowing them to do as they please without any Yankee meddling, they likely would have been so thankful they would be your best friends right now. Just like Musharraf.

And no million Iraqis would now be dead.

Or they'd be back in Kuwait and eyeballing the Saudi border.

Whichever.

#4 - Posted by: Harvey on September 12, 2007 10:43 PM

If someone could give Osama-bama a reality check that'd be great. Apparently his high dollar education didn't include the definition of "kill the infidel".

Wonder which word he gets stuck on: kill, infidel or the?

#5 - Posted by: seanmahair on September 12, 2007 10:53 PM

"They?" - Sanjayrupta Pravati? - you mean Saddam Hussein? Surely you jest. How many did Saddam kill? How many was he likely to kill if not stopped? War with Iran, chemical warfare against the Kurds, mass graves, firing squads, hangings, meat grinders, unspeakable torture, invasion of Kuwait (with sights on Saudi Arabia), etc.

I suppose you're writing that from some safe haven somewhere. Stay there. You'll be safe from tyrants, hopefully.

Good point, Harv, and I don't think I've heard anyone else make it.

Some things are just funny to say, and "Barack Obama" is one very funny set of sounds to make.

As a tot I thought "fly swatter" was "flice water", as in "There's a bug, get the flice water". I wondered why a plastic pad on a metal handle was some kind of water.

Barack Obama, Bara Kobama, Baracko Bama, Ba Rockobama ...

It seems that when USA was friendly to Saddam, his killings and gassings and WMDs were a good thing. And then USA stops being Mr. Nice Guy, and Saddam becomes angry and hates America. So, go back to being friendly, as the world told you to, and the "problem" goes away.

But no. Bush must use bombs to cover up his inadequacy in the diplomatic area.

LOL

Harv makes a great point. No matter the grief this war brings, the sadness of troops killed or maimed, the slaughter of innocents, the cost to our treasury, in a (relatively) few short years we will all be dead and world will be left to enjoy or suffer the results of our determination or lack thereof. Just remember, these people have and will again, armed with guns and explosives, attack a school filled with children and teachers, and shoot those children in the back as they try to escape. This is no damned Viet Nam. We were attacked again and again, and finally fought back. The future holds for us the promise of freedom or fear, and will judge all of us as to our determination to rid the world of this evil.

Sanjaya

Even America can't take on every tinpot, sociopathic regime at one, man. Not until Fred Thompson's president anyway. We'll get around to your favorite demogogues soon enough.

Meh. Kids today, no frickin' patience!

Oh, I loved you in 'Idol' by the way.

#12 - Posted by: Bob on September 13, 2007 09:27 AM

Dear Sanjayrupta,

Bite me.

A. The world didn't tell us to 'Be Nice'. You are confusing 'The World' with a few lackeys who took millions of dollars (American dollars by the way asshole) from Sadam in the Food for Oil scandal.

B. Only idiots rely on the 'World' for protection. America will protect itself. We don't need permission from you, the U.N. or 'your World'.

Too wrap this all up: Sadam is dead.
His two psychopath sons are dead. A ton of Islamic fanatics and their leaders are dead. We are only just beginning, Iran and Syria are next.

Yes Sanjay, my greasy little friend, you may be an aspiring champion of "American Idle," but until then, our IT support lacking...

...If you can use "green, pink and yellow" in the same sentence, we'll give you a "Yankee" yob.

#14 - Posted by: stereotypical duplicitous crank on September 13, 2007 11:46 AM

You guys just don't get it. Nobody in the world has free will except Americans. Everybody else in the world only reacts to our actions. And not just to actions we, as America, have taken, but actions taken before our country was founded. I mean, of course the Crusades are our fault and they're obviously a valid reason for attacking us.
Look at all the Muslims we killed. Why, when we invaded Kuwait in the 90s, we killed thousands of peace-loving Muslims as they wore their peace-loving uniforms, carried their peace-loving guns and rode around in their peace-loving tanks while they tried to get back to their peace-loving country after having, in a peace-loving manner, tried to explain to the Kuwaitis that they should belong to that peace-loving country!

See? It's all America's fault, nobody else, ever has had free will. All their (peace-loving) actions are required as a response to actions taken by the US.
Well, except for Israel, they keep rebuffing the peace-loving people from their peace-loving neighbor countries when their peace-loving tanks and peace-loving planes come to discuss peace and how much they all love it.

Sanjayrupta is confusing our temporary help of Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war with "friendship." I doubt you'll ever understand just how we deal with the world, Sanjayrupta. If you study our military history, you might just discover the cleverness of our country's stategies when the military has a clear mission to win. But you won't. 'Cause you're "stuck on stupid." Sorry, Pal.

I don't think Uday would have lived to see power. Wheelchair-bound and Viagra addicted, I'm pretty sure Qusay would have gotten rid of him. Nonetheless, we would've had a nuclear-armed Hussein to deal with eventually.

The sad lesson from all of this (and it's hardly a new one) is that nature abhors a vaccuum, and we really should have had a puppet ready to take over once Saddam & Sons were out of business - a puppet ready to start another 8-year war with Iran...

#17 - Posted by: bunkerboy on September 13, 2007 12:57 PM

Hey, bunker. Or, you could say our flanking of Iran with two armies and a large fleet is about the same thing. And I'll wager most of the Republican candidates understand this.

#18 - Posted by: Jimmy on September 13, 2007 02:19 PM

You see, what's really needed is a Saddam-like moment in which we surround their parliament and then begin reading the names of the folks who just won't play ball, followed by the immediate execution of those named. I'm pretty sure they'd adopt the US Constitution by the end of the day...

#19 - Posted by: bunkerboy on September 13, 2007 02:59 PM

An excellent suggestion, sir. If not executed, at least scared enough to honor one another in their own country. I'm still miffed at Bush for not taking advantage of some "PR grandstanding" in that regard. The Muslim world REALLY doesn't understand the "live-and-let-live" nature of people's hearts in America. Until, of course, that notion is violated. Then, it's "live-and-let-die."
