Good News, Everyone! (Who's a Republican)
Posted by Frank J. at 02:47 PM | View blog reactions | Comments (10)

Did you know they had an election in Louisiana on a Saturday in October? Sounds like more election day shenanigans from the Republicans, but anyway, Bobby Jindal has been elected governor of Louisiana with 53% of the vote. As you'll find in the lede of any story about the election, that will make him the youngest current governor (36), the first Indian-American governor, and the first non-white governor of Louisiana since Reconstruction. Less likely to find in a news story are the political reasons he won, as he ran a solidly conservative campaign. I don't know whether this election indicates anything outside of Louisiana, but if Jindal has any success cleaning up that state, I'm sure people will be talking about a presidential run for him eventually (when he's old enough).

Anyway, I want to be the first to congrulate Bush and Rove on their success of blowing up the levees in New Orleans to wash away all the Democrats.

If he's a Republican than he can't be a real non-white. What do you call and Indian-American who has sold out to The Man like this? A fig newton perhaps? Beige on the outside, but brown on the inside?

That doesn't work at all. That would be a fake white guy trying to act like an Indian-American.

Man, this multicultualist racism stuff is tough! I had no idea! Now I have more respect for Ward Churchill and the bloggers at blackprof.com. It's just second nature for them.

George Bush doesn't care about curry people!

The thing is, he won with over 50% of the vote; the next closest guy had something like 13%. Now granted, a bunch of black Democrats got washed away to Houston and Atlanta, and the population of Nawlins went from 67% to 58% black, but that still doesn't explain these numbers.

Either Homey's still chillin' on his roof, or even they realize that Kathleen Blanco was largely to blame for the Katrina mess. Apparently, they weren't willing to give the same pass to their white governor as they did to their "chocolate" mayor...

Um, if he's 36, then technically he already IS old enough to be President, but I get your point: I'm not ready to vote for someone younger than I (I'm only 40).

The sad thing in that election was that Jalila Jefferson-Bullock, daughter of "Dollar" Bill Jefferson ... yes, the one who is under indictment ... beat David Williams for Louisiana State Senate by 50 votes. He was the only qualified person in the race (he ran as a Democrat, but I've known the family for years, and he's easily as conservative as you or I, and was a Republican up until ... this race - but in his district, there are only like 4 republicans total), but that didn't sway the voters enough, apparently.

From the Huffington Post -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/10/21/republican-indianamerica_n_69259.html

FINALLY! THE KATRINA STRATEGY PAYOFF!
Perhaps it was one of Rove's last successes - the Republicanization of Louisiana. 57,000 Democratic voters got moved out of town, leaving a 2-1 Republican majority.

Read it all.

And just when I thought it was a parody, someone answers "Amen" and checking out the commentor's profile, if it was a joke, it is an elaborate one.

so, now do they need to change the state drink to a slurpee?
yeah, I know not very 'PC' of me...my bad

So does this mean that you have to wash away Democrats to make Louisiana elect a non-white Governor?

Cknight: I hope you are ready to vote for someone younger than you are in four years, because if Hillary is elected in '08 I can see Jindal being a Republican front runner then (or maybe a Veep to Sarah Palin of Alaska, whose pictures you should check out).

Heck, I'm 46, and I am ready for President Jindal NOW. Maybe he can clean up Louisiana in a couple of months, in time to run for the White House next year? Oops, better not offend the Fred Thompson fans!

FEMA trailers dont count as a permanent residence for voting purposes...changes it to more like 5% black

Unfortunately, the Bush/Rove-splosion washed all the dems to southern Tejas...
