Ronin Profile: Fuloydo

Fuloydo
Let's meet some more IMAO readers. Today, it's Fuloydo.

* * * *

What's the story behind your name? My actual name is Floyd. I spent several years back in the 80's working for a Japanese company and all of the upper management and most of the engineers were Japanese who spoke English as very much a second language, if at all. Fu-loy-do was how they pronounced my name. (They pronounced my last name Ku-raa-ku. You have roll the "r" and give it a teensy bit of "l" for the proper effect.)

Where do you live? A (very) small town by the name of Adrian located about 50 miles south of Kansas City, MO

How old are you? I'm not 45 yet. :)

Tell us briefly about yourself. Disabled, spend all my time either reading or surfing the intertubes, and am a collector. (note: collector=geek....Science Fiction books, DVD's, Movie posters, Fantasy swords, etc.) I also collect guns, as I can afford them, and I studied martial arts off and on for several years prior to my accident, including kendo, and still have all the stuff associated with those. Basically, I'm a geeky packrat. I speak a very limited amount of Japanese, just about sufficient to ask where the bathroom is and please can I have another beer, and I can fluently say "I don't understand, do you speak English?"

How long have you been reading IMAO? Not sure....I first discovered blogs shortly after 9-11 and didn't really get heavily into them until the memogate incident prior to the 2004 elections. I came across IMAO as a link from one of those, probably Ace of Spades though it could have been the puppy blender. Say three-four years.

What's your favorite IMAO post? Split between the Know Thy Enemy posts and the cartoons. You are an incredible artist.

If you were to describe IMAO in three words, what would those be? Irreverent, with guns.

What's your favorite political issue? The 2nd Amendment. "From my cold dead hands" is not a bumper sticker, it's a promise. I have a Missouri CCW permit and I never leave my home without my Sig.

Do you have a website? If so, please tell us briefly about it. I used to host http://www.excelsiornews.com on a server in my basement but got tired of the headaches. The site still exists but I'm no longer an admin and it's no longer on my server. It's an entertainment news discussion forum inhabited by the standard range of internet fanboys.

If Rose O'Donnell get her own show, what channel do you think it should be on? I'd say the Cartoon Network but that would expose our children to her......Bravo is the obvious choice......How about Animal Planet?

If you commented in the last post asking for participants, you're still in the running. Thanks to everyone who has participated thus far; just because you may not think you're interesting doesn't mean we won't enjoy your story.

The Sig is a great choice. Thank God we finally got concealed carry here in MO.
BTW, I've actually been in Adrian! Nice town.

I love my Sig. It's a P220 outfitted with a lasermax internal site.

I really don't think laser sites are worth the money the cost but, Damn, they are cool. :D

Reading this, I look at the line:

"I also collect guns, as I can afford them,"

and realize it comes off as "I'm rich and can do anything I want"

I'm hardly rich.

Try it this way:

"I also collect guns, as I can afford them (which isn't often),"

Wish I'd spotted that while I was proof'ing my answers....

Son, you should have left the impression that you can purchase firearm at whim alone. Face it, if a woman gets interested because she thinks you can supply her ammo habit, you are way ahead of the curve. (Better than one who wants to start a jewelry or designer shoe habit, I mean.)

"how about animal planet" lol

#5 - Posted by: spacekicker on November 8, 2007 07:08 PM

"I also collect guns, as I can afford them,"

Made perfect sense either way. Now, if you had said "tanks" I would be asking for the name of your supplier. :-)

#6 - Posted by: Jimmy on November 8, 2007 07:26 PM

Heh. Ammo has priority. I try to keep at least 200 rnds on hand for every gun I own. I could probably afford to buy more guns if I didn't insist on shooting the ones I have.

But I'd hate to think some lovely lady was after me for my ability to buy guns. I'd rather she saw the purity of my soul (jeez, did I just type that without gagging?) and love me for what I am. :D

Now, I said "if a woman gets interested". Once she gets interested it's up to the purity of your soul, unique personality, and Ronin-esque honor to keep her.

I've seen several Sigs that I like, but, purely for concealment purposes, I always carry my Kel-Tec P3AT .380 auto. No, it's not a man stopper at anything more than about 7-8 yards, but it'll do the job...which means, gets me back to my Jeep so I can whip out the 8 shot .357 magnum and spread havoc and destruction across the countryside.

#9 - Posted by: Joseph on November 8, 2007 08:33 PM

My local Chief of Police carries a Kel-Tec as his backup and swears by it. He keeps pushing me to buy one. (which I probably will, eventually.)

Carrying a full sized .45 concealed isn't easy. But it is comforting. I still need a backup weapon, and it will probably be either a Kel-Tec or a Bersa. I'm really liking the Bersa 380 Thunder Plus. Granted, a .380 isn't the most powerful load but the 15 round magazine in a pocket pistol is nothing to sneeze at.

#10 - Posted by: fuloydo on November 8, 2007 08:52 PM

All I ever learned to say fluently in Japanese is "sakana wa tabemasen". Important to me in my travels there.

I've never understood why every language study program starts with "do you speak English?" Isn't it just as effective spoken in English?

And a Kel-Tec is a fabulous little piece of firepower. Obviously a .380 isn't the biggest round but the biggest in such a tiny package is what matters sometimes.

No, not Animal Planet! We like animals! ;-)

(This is a really neat feature here, learning about all the IMAO denizens)

#12 - Posted by: Polly Esther on November 9, 2007 01:06 AM

I've heard good things about the Bersa Thunder Plus (I believe there was a review on it in one of the Dillon Blue Press magazines a couple of months back, but I could be mistaken). However, I got my Kel-Tec for sheer concealability (it's in the back pocket of my jeans right now, and nobody would know if I didn't tell them). My dad bought one first, recommended it to me, so that's what I wound up getting...God bless conceal and carry laws.

#13 - Posted by: Joseph on November 9, 2007 01:09 AM

I have a Kel-Tec P3AT that I carried for years to a job that didn't allow guns at work. You can conceal it anywhere, but it's not fun to shoot. And it's been known to jam. I'm glad I can now carry my GLOCK 22 andnot have to worry about much.

#14 - Posted by: Peeps on November 9, 2007 06:50 AM

Wow, the first Ronin with an actual Japanese name. Cool.

I love my Sig SP2340, it's more accurate than I am and it never, I mean never, jams. I've put mucho roundos through it and it just shoots every, single time.
