Since I usually Google a couple things when writing an In My World™, does that mean my stupid humor posts involve more research than a CNN presidential debate?

What journalists do research? Huh?

#1 - Posted by: Terry Ann on November 29, 2007 09:30 PM

No, but do you choose to ignore your research results?

#2 - Posted by: c on November 29, 2007 09:31 PM

Yes. And it means you took a couple more steps in your research than Jayson Blair.

#3 - Posted by: AlanABQ on November 29, 2007 09:37 PM

I'd say so! What a fiasco!

#4 - Posted by: Americaneocon on November 29, 2007 10:05 PM

That's not quite a fair comparison. Spelling and grammar aren't needed for a debate.

/don't tase me bro!

Okay, maybe grammar.

#5 - Posted by: c on November 29, 2007 10:14 PM

Yes it does. Mayhap you should toss it out to youtube for ideas...whats the worse that could happen?

#6 - Posted by: Ed on November 29, 2007 10:45 PM

No

#7 - Posted by: Cincinnati_Bob on November 29, 2007 11:11 PM

Hi, my name's Bill and I'm an undecided voter. My wife is running for president, and I would like to know why each of these pathetic candidates feel they would be a better President than my wife. Then, I can make a decision who I'm going to vote for.

#8 - Posted by: Son of Bob on November 30, 2007 12:28 AM

Just by checking my fridge for beer before the game last night, I did more research than CNN. Maybe you should geta pulitzer, Frank...

#9 - Posted by: Raving Lunatic on November 30, 2007 07:58 AM

Yes, your humor posts involve more research than CNN presidential debates.

That's because humor must have a kernel of truth.

#10 - Posted by: DamnCat on November 30, 2007 09:31 AM

I'm a homo retired gay general who is concerned about global warming and the fact that we are not aborting enough babies but I haven't decided who to vote for and I'm wondering if you could ask the Republican candidates if they believe in hot man-on-man butt sex?

#11 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on November 30, 2007 09:36 AM

First off, scanning (not reading, scanning) the headlines of the local newspaper first thing in the morning constitutes more research than CNN is capable of.

Secondly, ussjimmycarter, damn...funny, but damn.

#12 - Posted by: Joseph on November 30, 2007 09:44 AM

Yes, without question.

#13 - Posted by: T.Ferg on November 30, 2007 10:26 AM

I do more research on the mating habits of the albino turtle-backed emu than CNN does on a presidential debate. Meaning they must have done negative research somehow...

#14 - Posted by: Hazel on November 30, 2007 11:18 AM

Finding a mechanic involves more research than CNN does with their debates. Or with anything else, for that matter.

I hope you guys don't mind my rant, but I can't help myself.

First: The question that General Reach-Around asked was not a bad question, he just asked it in a condescending, smart-ass tone that made me want to punch him in the mouth.

Second: Here's my opinion on the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

It works, its a good policy and heres why, Don't Ask Don't Tell saves lives. Heres why:

I'm speaking from experience here as someone who enlisted in the Marines right out of high-school. The last thing that 18-21 year old men, fresh out of boot camp and filled to the rim with testerone, want to see is Joey and Blake walking down the street, hand in hand, in thier Dress Blue Blues. Trust me there is going to be a problem. Is it right to be homophobic? NO, of course not, but it's a fact of life. If you flaunt that lifestyle in front of people and try to force them to accept it, the machine will come to a grinding hault. It has nothing to do with the ability of a homosexual to "be professional enough to do the job". It has to do with keeping the peace within the ranks. I was one of them, me and my buddies would make fun of pillow-biters all the time. But hey, we were young and dumb, getting older and wiser has taught me a lot. Anyways, keep the policy, trust me on this one!

#16 - Posted by: Clay S. on November 30, 2007 11:48 AM

Is it immoral/unnatural to "google" a gay general?
...I feel so filthy.

#17 - Posted by: on November 30, 2007 12:22 PM

Clay has a valid point about the DA/DT policy. More to the point, in my opinion,, is that the military is there to defend our borders & interests; it is not there to be a control group for some foolish social experiment. Treating it as such only serves to inhibit the military's ability to do its job.

I am sure that a gay man can have the same level of commitment to the country as any other, but that doesn't mean that everyone else just has to know about his sexual preference.

#18 - Posted by: AlanABQ on November 30, 2007 12:46 PM

Uhhh...

To answer the original question. Yeah!?!

#19 - Posted by: Fast Eddie on November 30, 2007 12:48 PM

Actually, I was thinking yesterday that you could throw Hugo Chavez's recent behavior straight into an IMW and no one that was unaware of him would realize it wasn't satire. (Did that make any sense whatsoever?)

The problem with Don't Ask, Don't Tell is that the military still asked - not straight up, but, for instance, my mom's partner was asked when she was in basic training if she had a boyfriend or husband back home. (This was back in the mid-nineties, maybe they've figured out the don't ask part by now)

#20 - Posted by: Alice H on November 30, 2007 05:08 PM

Yes,
but,
your research was not vetted by layers of fact-checking editors.
So,
No

#21 - Posted by: Marvin on November 30, 2007 05:57 PM

I agree with Alan and Clay. "I don't want to know." I'll figure it out later, if necessary. In the mean time. professionalism and respect must prevail - always. Ex-submariner.

#22 - Posted by: Jimmy on November 30, 2007 07:09 PM

I am becoming quite concerned. FrankJ has not posted in 24 hours. SarahKJ has not posted in 48 hours on her site. I have checked all the hiway webcams in Wyoming and there is not a UHaul showing on any of them. Is it time to call out the search party? He did promise to kill us all if we didn't look for him. My self-preservation instincts are kicking in hard. Where do you think I should start looking for them?

#23 - Posted by: Burt on November 30, 2007 09:11 PM

More than a CNN Presidential debate, more than a Dan Rather newscast, more than a Maureen Dowd column, more than anything the San Francisco Chronicle has ever published, including weather reports and NFL scores. More than Bill Clinton when he claims that he said something yesterday or last year or any time in the past. All the aforementioned would claim that the sun rose in the west if they thought that the claim would benefit them.
