Hehehehe I love it! #1 - Posted by: Cyrus on December 18, 2007 01:20 PMWhitey + Rap = CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP! Actually, you can leave out Whitey...it's called "cultural abnegation", folks...look into it! #3 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 01:26 PMAwesome raised to the power of Fred! Thompson....which if I remember my mathematics correctly is quite a bit larger than infinity. #4 - Posted by: Chuck on December 18, 2007 01:27 PMThat was terrible. If Fred loses he should blame you idiots and your weird Fred campaign. [Know what's terrible? Your mom! -Ed.] #5 - Posted by: Schmiddy on December 18, 2007 01:36 PMHey John - that ain't metal. As someone who used to walk around with half a can of hairspray in his magnificent lion's mane, this is something I take very personally. Metal was declared dead shortly after the release of Nirvana's debut "Nevermind" in 1991, launching the grunge movement. Talented acts featuring virtuoso playing and stunning visuals were soon replaced by no-talent slobs in t-shirts and steak-knife haircuts. Curt Cobain, realizing what he had unleashed, did the right thing and blew his brains out in 1994. #7 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 02:16 PMAs someone who used to walk around with half a can of hairspray in his magnificent lion's mane, this is something I take very personally. Hahahahahahahaha! No, really .... Hahahahahahahaha! Why am I not surprised, yet entertained? "Stunning visuals," he says.....you released the fackin fury! #8 - Posted by: Yngwie on December 18, 2007 02:30 PM!applause, applause! #9 - Posted by: Laura on December 18, 2007 02:40 PMLaugh all you want, Yngwie - but I nailed more broads in a month than you did in your whole life in those days. Besides, with a tag like Yngwie, something tells me you've probably gone through some cans of AquaNet yourself... #10 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 02:47 PMWow, that seems an abrupt change from your comment on that video yesterday. Just saying... #12 - Posted by: Hazel on December 18, 2007 03:04 PMYou can have my share of broads that would be attracted to an idiot walking around with half a can of hairspray in his "magnificent lion's mane." Like Yngwie said......Hahahahahahahaha! That is too funny! #13 - Posted by: Chuck on December 18, 2007 03:07 PM#7 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 02:16 PM Whatever, the hairbands of the 80's sucked, in fact, most older Metal sucked. Modern Metal has virtuosity, PLUS talented composition. Nightwish, Sabaton, Dragonforce, just to name a few very talented modern metal bands. Have you ever *heard* Dragonforce, I mean, its unbelievable. #15 - Posted by: AR on December 18, 2007 03:23 PMHeres the proof that Metal isn't just still alive, but better than the older stuff. DragonForce: These aren't even their best songs, Soldiers of the Wasteland is far better than either of these. Nightwish: New Nightwish isn't as good, since they replaced the singer with a more popish singer. Sabaton: Posted by AR at December 18, 2007 03:23 PM Man, I love Dragonforce. Though I must disagree about many of the older bands, as they made some pretty great stuff that's lasted through a couple decades thus far. Still, much of the modern metal rocks just as hard. The style back then, however, makes me infinitely grateful that I wasn't born until '90. You most definitely can go wrong with huge hair and really, really tight pants. #17 - Posted by: Hazel on December 18, 2007 04:26 PM#17 - Posted by: Hazel on December 18, 2007 04:26 PM I know there are a couple of good, even great, older bands, but whenever I try to think of any all I can think of is "That one band, with that one song". BTW, your just trying to be the perfect woman now. There is no way you exist. #18 - Posted by: AR on December 18, 2007 04:41 PMMy mom says I exist. #19 - Posted by: Hazel on December 18, 2007 05:54 PMWell done, FrankJ! Caught the download at HotAir. Very cool!
I just got a boner! #21 - Posted by: ussjimmycarter on December 18, 2007 06:13 PMFirst time, jimmy? Congrats! #22 - Posted by: steadyrock on December 18, 2007 07:14 PMHazel - I guarantee you, at your tender age (She's Only Seventeen), you WILL look back at some of your get-ups and laugh. I can only hope you had as much fun as I did. I also hope you don't look like Shirley Booth. As for you AR, that stuff is every bit as silly as the silliest 80's stuff, just with open D tuning and annoying thrash drumming (kinda like Trans-Siberian Orchestra on meth). If metal's alive, it's doing a helluva job hiding. Here's a test - bring up any of these bands in conversation 20 years from now and see if anyone's heard of them... #24 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 10:16 PM#24 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 10:16 PM Dragonforce might be cheesy, but they are good. Talking music here man. Anyway, though I can't prove it, I'm pretty sure DragonForce is playing up the cheese for laughs. I couldn't care less if no one will know these bands 20 years from now (though Dragonforce is fairly popular for a Power Metal band, and people very well might remember them). As for Hair Metal, if Freddy Mercury and Slash had formed a band together, they couldn't have redeemed the 80's for Europe. Yes, the synth-line in The Final Countdown was good, the rest was a travesty against man. Lets just agree that pop music sucks and be done with it, I mean, thats where this conversation is doomed to end anyway. Since, after all when I say 80's metal, or Hair Metal I am referring to pop metal, and I'm pretty sure your thinking of popular metal like... err.. Korn (though 1 out of 10 of their songs is, in fact, good).. and... umm.... those other.. popular metal bands like.. uh.. I should at this time admit that the closest thing to popular music I listen to is.. DragonForce.. and while I love metal, I'm more of a Raver/ Electronica/Dance fan then a Metal Head... Also, I'm still REALLY sorry about calling you a PaulBot. #25 - Posted by: AR on December 18, 2007 11:04 PMDo you people actually like Fred Thompson or is just a running gag that this blog is in love with Fred? I hope it is all a big joke and you people are not serious. If it is a joke it sure is a good one!! #26 - Posted by: Starfish on December 18, 2007 11:25 PMI guess the problem here is generational. The first concert I ever saw was Queen with Thin Lizzy in '77 at The Garden. Kiss's Love Gun tour the next year. Rush ('78), Judas Priest ('80) at The Palladium. Priest and Maiden at The Garden ('83). This was when you got a SHOW for your money. The fact is, I've never heard of these bands you're talking about, and frankly I just don't wanna listen to music I don't know these days. Believe me, you'll arrive at that point. The music industry and MTV in particular stabbed guys like me in the back when they decided black culture would be the dominant pop culture. So if it isn't some clown tryin' to act like Homey, then it's some clown tryin' to break the sound barrier on drums. All I can do is appreciate VH1 Classic - before it decides Eminem is classic... #27 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 11:41 PM#24 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 10:16 PM I already laugh at my past self plenty (I had a goth/punk phase a few years back, and a hippie phase before that), and I have no clue who Shirley Booth is. She didn't look too horrible in the google picture search, though. #28 - Posted by: Hazel on December 19, 2007 12:34 AMI laughed so hard, I fell off Schmiddy's mom! #29 - Posted by: TBinSTL on December 19, 2007 01:53 AM#27 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 18, 2007 11:41 PM You went to a Queen concert? Holy... your so lucky... I can't even imagine that level of awesome.. You have no idea how jealous I am. I have to settle with YouTube videos. Don't worry, soon VH1 will show HipHop, but MTV will start showing something new, and not as crappy. My hope for pop music is Big Band comes back. #30 - Posted by: AR on December 19, 2007 10:00 AMC'mon, Hazel - you Googled Shirley Booth and don't know she played...Hazel? At seventeen, you better not look like her. She actually won an Oscar and a few Emmys, so I guess looks aren't everything. As for Queen live, AR, for all the hoopla about what a showman Freddy was, his voice frequently crapped out on him. That and the fact that they were so produced; lots of tape had to accompany them, and that too was prone to glitches. For sheer spectacle, nothing beat Kiss in their heyday. You definitely got your money's worth (ten bucks!). For sheer right-off-the-album precision and fascist crowd unity, nothing beat Judas Priest! Priest! Priest! Priest! #31 - Posted by: bunkerboy on December 19, 2007 04:59 PMAm I total loser due to the fact that I don't recognize that song or know who put it out? Well, I was born in the 90s, so I suppose I have an excuse. I do like Nightwish though. Does that make up for my loss of coolness points? #32 - Posted by: Spicy Cripsy Chicken Melt Johnson on December 21, 2007 02:10 PMPost a comment
