Actually the answer would be because being the President is hard work and a lot of responsibility and only someone obsessed with power would actually want to be President. Fred Thompson isn't power hungry.

Let me tell you all about the Starfish

The Starfish was a really poor creature in those early days millions of years ago. He was so pathetic you would not have believed it, but let me tell you the story of how he developed into the creature he now is.
In the beginning, he wasn’t even called the Starfish, but the Blobfish, and no name could be more appropriate, for the poor creature was nothing more than a blob. He had no arms or legs, and crawled on the sand like some common creature.

He was a dull black in colour with a really terrible shade of green. If you were to come by him on the beach you would probably walk a metre or two around him, probably turning your head away from the sight.
And if you were to accidentally touch him, you would rush to the washroom in a desperate attempt to remove all traces of the unfortunate encounter.

It was therefore no surprise that the other creatures of the sea gave the Blobfish a wide berth. Nobody would play Hide-in-the-Sea or Sea-Saw with him. No school of fish would accept him. He was the constant butt of jokes, and grew to be a lonely figure.

So guys maybe starfish is just lonely and wants someone to play with!!! Maybe if we were nice to him, but then again who wants to talk to an ugly old blobfish!!!
